Any way, really sounding good thus far. Especially the "between RE4 and God Hand" remarks. :D

He wasn't talking about the gameplay though. He was referring to how commercial and marketable the game is.

With Vanquish, I'm drawing up the ideas, then they get put on the table, and it's considered whether they will be successful in the market or not. There are a lot of points where I kind of have to bear that as a reality. So I feel that it's kind of between God Hand and Resident Evil - that's where Vanquish is.
I'm in!

edit: should read better.

Oh, I know. But I think what we can take from his words is that through this game, he wants to be able to "have his cake, and eat it too". :lol

In other words, finding a nice balance between allowing his ideas to cut loose, but still being tempered by what would be commercially viable. For example, that cigarette thing, to me, does a lot to showcase that his playfulness still very much has say in what we'll see for Vanquish. And I look forward to seeing only more where that came from.

All I wonder is if he may actually live up to what he said where this might be the last game he may actually direct. It'd be a tragedy if that was true...

yeah i read it again and you're correct. still, that's exactly how i would describe the general game concept, if what we know about it thus far is to be believed.

this just ruined my day

It makes sense for a "genius" game designer to re-use commercially successful gameplay from previous experiments and adding further innovations on top. Refine to hone the ultimate experience.

For those of you wondering, it was demoed on PS3 because development is indeed leading on PS3:

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3178212

"We're leading development on PS3," said Vanquish director Shinji Mikami. "Obviously each console has its own unique requirements and limitations, but we feel if we can create a good enough presentation on PS3, we'll be off to a good start."

Mikami also mentioned that development started on PC, but shifted to PS3 early on. When asked about a PC release, he clarified that, "Any sort of possible PC version is undecided at this point -- the main idea right now is 360 and PS3."

Not sure whether to be encouraged or frightened :lol :D

I'm not as excited as I was seeing Bayonetta initially, and it probably didn't help that Logan's trailer is impossibly perfect. Still, assuming I have a working console at the time, day one.

Wish the environments weren't so boring. I want P.N.03 style with Mikami's shooting mechanics. Let me fight people in day-glo rooms and all sorts of trippy shit. I've seen enough rusty metal pipes this gen to last me a lifetime.

If it's anything like God Hand, you won't have time or brain activity to spare for the scenery. It will be you and your fist through enemy. (or in this time your bullets............)

If it means PG* has actual PS3 devkits now, then yes.

I was actually thinking along the lines that for the last 2 years, Platinum has had 360 and PS3 dev kits, and Mikami was leading a PS3 game while Kamiya was leading a 360 game, and somehow they failed to ever communicate with each other or share technology on any level. That's just kinda sad.

I would be so happy if this game got a PC release.

Oh.... I feel bad now.

Why not Andrex?

I take it you haven't seen my Backloggery.

A PC release would probably interest me if it's as good as people say the DMC4 port was. I'd probably be more interested in that than slogging through the rest of BioShock.

I'm amazed to finally to see some in-game shots. This title looks great. How soon do we get to see gameplay clips?

Some of the shots remind me of Gears of War but looking at the rest of them it looks like the gameplay is going to be a lot more fast paced.

so the third person Shooter leads on PS3 ....the Action game leads on 360 :/

anyway I wonder who will handle the 360 port now , Team Lil Angles or the infamous SEGA port team (they deserve another chance)

I was really disappointed with Platinum games because of Bayonetta after having so much fun with their games when they were formerly clover. Although I still plan on buying it now - after the patch - I'm happy to read that the ps3 version of their next game should be ok as they are one of the top devs in Japan right now.

Only because capcom let go of their best staff.
:lol

So people are going to use "Vanquished" instead of "Bayonetta'd" then, sounds more natural.:lol
just joking, they are developing both in house this time (1up article) and they have experience with the 360 now, probably it's going to be fine on both platforms this time.

Hmmm. Not sure how interested I am in this one. Shooting robots tends to be boring (particularly JPN games, with the exception of ZOE2) and I tend not to be very impressed with Mikami's games. We'll see how everything is handled.

So wait, were you disappointed because of the port of Bayonetta or because of the game itself?
