New Pokémon: Crabrawler

I thought it was a mangosteen?

I still think it could be either. It looks more like a mangosteen, but a lychee has the same red top/white bottom and is actually popular on Hawaii.

Probably a mangosteen, but I still wonder about the intent.

Can someone explain the apparently widespread dislike for Pokemon based on inanimate objects to me? Like they've been a part of the series since day 1, but for some reason people only really latched onto them as something to complain about in gen 5 with the omnipresent Garbodor/Vanilluxe/Klinklang complaints. And like, fair, those aren't exactly the pinnacle of Pokemon design, but they don't seem particularly more egregious than anything that came before.

Idk, it just seems silly to let the sandcastle be the deciding factor for you when there are going to be (and already are) dozens and dozens of animal-based Pokemon that far outnumber the object-based ones.
The ice creams are fair game to hate imo.

Object Pokemon have generally been human created (machinery, pollution etc), whereas the ice creams are just "oh it's actually icicles with snow on top so they only look like ice creams pretty clever huh?"
Just dumb.

The sandcastle again I have no problem with as it's a ghost possessing the sand.

Alolan beaches must be interesting.

Imagine:

You roll out a blanket on the sand and try to get a tan. Looking up at the sky, you're startled to see the face(s) of an Alolan Exeggutor staring down at you in your bikini. A Crabrawler is climbing its tree-like neck, looking for berries to shake down. Halfway up the Exeggutor's neck, it encounters a Komala clinging to the Exeggutor in lieu of its log.

Meanwhile, the beer cooler you brought to the beach is sucked down into the sand by what you thought was a sandcastle. The Pallosand spits out the cooler, now emptied of its beer, and drunkenly slithers off down the shoreline. Briefly irritated, you forget your troubles when a friendly Comfey flits by and deposits a lei on your shoulders.

Down by the water, someone is picking up Pyukumuku and throwing them back into the ocean — a futile effort, since they always return. Meanwhile, a swimmer has run afoul of a Wishiwashi, bringing forth the wrath of its school form. And off in the distance, an Alolan Raichu surfs some waves.

Sounds like a far more interesting time at the beach than normal. Long as you avoid getting killed by Pallosand sounds like a relaxing time.

Like, if the best defense one has for their dislike of something is "it's dumb" then it's probably not going to be a well received criticism. Especially when these are goofy ass monsters we're talking about.

I guess it's as "fair game to hate" as any Pokemon is, but I'm guessing many people don't delve much deeper into it than "don't like" so it's fine.

I do wish it were Ice/Fairy so badly, and that shiny Vanilluxe were as pink as Vanillite. But otherwise it's a fine design and actually one of my favorites.

Water Compaction is kinda shitty if you think about it.

Most of the good water attacks are special type.

Yeah I was wondering about that. I'm not big on the whole meta game pvp stuff admittedly, but unless it has some really good special defense, won't a water attack pretty much wipe it out?

Hopefully it has decent Sp. Def and can benefit from good switches

Was it not an immunity? I remember the trailer not making it too clear to me. But if it's like other similar abilities, then it won't take damage from water moves.

I thought it showed damage being taken but rewatching it it doesn't show health dropping, though the sandygast does have low health, so it must've taken a hit at some point.

Yeah I just read the site and it doesn't say anything like "Water moves cause no damage" which I feel like they usually mention.

Welp, that ability isn't very good at all.

Maybe (hopefully) this gen we will see a rise in new physical water attacks.

Best thing for me every new gen besides a new region and Pokémon are the new moves created.

Eh concept wise the Ice Cream is bad, but I like the design, face reminds me of slime monsters from DQ.

Chandelure, that thing looks like complete trash if you ask me. Two yellow dots for eyes and nothing else. Would have loved if it was actually the flames that were alive with a face just controlling the object.

When are they going to show the good Pokemon

Wish it was Fighting/Bug though...

Still, another quirky Pokemon which has captured my heart. I was thinking of going with Bewear for a Fighting-type but I might use this guy, but not if he's a single-stager. Can't really tell.

Aww yiss, more crab Pokémon!

I never was a fan of crab pokemon. This changes nothing

Will he learn Crabhammer?

Hopefully he can unlike Mew, who cannot learn Crabhammer.

We already have clawitzer.

I'd imagine the Clawitzer is based on the pistol shrimp: a creature that attacks by closing it's claw so fast is shears the water, creating an empty space that the water molecules rush back in to fill so quickly that it causes a sonic shockwave that will knock most of it's prey unconscious and a teeny tiny ball of plasma hotter than the surface of the sun.

I've loved most of the Gen 7 designs but Turtonator, Crabrawler and the sandcastles do absolutely nothing for me.

At least the stuffed animal makes Bewear a little better but there's still something really off about that design anyway.

Do they usually announce version exclusives before the game launches?

yep, that's why I'm surprised the only exclusive so far are the legendaries

generally it's the returning mons that are the bulk of version exclusives

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS
wApoQOel.jpg

made in poke-china
so is stufful an 'animal' pokemon or a pokemon based on an inanimate object?

pokemon based on an inanimate object based on an animal

makes you wonder how to process Bewear

pokemon based on an inanimate object based on a costume being worn by a guy with the concept of someone wearing said costume but in this case its living

I'm sure this was their marketing plan all along. Has nothing to do with Go.

You got a product, people love it. It's Pokemon Go

You got another product, very closely related to the aforementioned product. It's Sun and Moon, and it's coming out soon.

You wouldn't ramp up marketing efforts for that soon-to-be released product to take advantage of the Global Go fever?

Or here, more simply: They're gonna push extra hard to let people know Sun and Moon are coming out.....because Pokemon Go is a phenomenon.

and they want that pokevan to keep on rolling

Those might be my favorites dude! Franky, Bowser, and a Pikachu killer. What's not to love?

I don't mind the sandcastle Pokemon to be honest. I am not loving Crabrawler and Turtonator though. They look off for some reason.

I see so many people screaming that these are the best designed generation so far and I'm just asking myself "where"?
