New Pokemon Sun and Moon trailer!

I need to stop watching the trailers as they come out. How many new Pokemon will there be that haven't been shown yet?

A fair amount still, I imagine.

-The final evolutions of the starters likely won't be shown (if they do what they did with XY)
-The other 3 legendary guardians haven't been shown (or named, I think) at all (Tapu Koko's counterparts)
-Any other actual legendaries haven't been announced beyond the cover legendaries
-The leaker/riddler has hinted at a number of other ones and Alolan variants that haven't been shown

If the 80 new mons leak is correct then there are only 27 Pokemon left in the game. If you take away the evolutions of the starters since we've already seen them , the snowman, and the dolphin then there are only 22 left in the game.

I don't think the 80 new mons leak is any more verified than some other leaks that have guessed some things right and others totally wrong.

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic that Ohmori knows how important this is to fans and will not pull another sub-100 total.

Not usually. I think the context is usually pretty different, though; firstly because while the designs might be attractive, they aren't sexualized; and secondly because men don't have the same history of being sexualized and stripped of personhood in media, so it becomes easier to forgive things that walk the boundary. The very first camera shot we get of Olivia is a panning shot that starts at her legs and goes past her ass. There's never been a shot of Kukui or indeed any male character in the series like that.

That's absolutely fine. I actually really like her design (minus the heels - you ever tried walking on a beach in heels?), and don't have any problem with other people liking it as a design. What I don't like is a) the way the developers have chosen to treat and present that design, and b) the way that many posters have chosen to react to it.

Ok.. let me say that you're not being unreasonable in your reaction and for the most part I agree.

It's hard for me to express what I want to say irl and harder online. Here we go.

Your reaction seems maybe alittle knee jerkish towards her reveal. We don't know anything of her character and personality besides what we have in her discription. She seems humble in it. You said you're fine with her design (except the heels. Not a woman but I'll take your word for it.) I think she's dressed like a reasonable adult would dress like in real life.

It's hard for me to say because I am a male raise by crazy independent latina females and gotten close with independent females in my life who dressed similar to Olivia and were confident enough to embraced how well they looked the way Olivia seemed to brace herself with that shot you described while being amazing human beings.

Look I don't even know how to make my point. Women in video games has a long history of being over sexualized. Moving foward we're always going to see the looks of a female first before we see their character. Who they are, what they're about, and such. Look at Tess from The Last of Us.

As for the media history of your post. I'm not making excuses for dumbasses of the past and current. Fuck em for devaluing a good character just because she has well designed zero and ones boobs.

My head hurts trying to sound all coherent. I don't know if my post make sense or of its even relevant to the discussion.

Blah!

I need to make dinner for the independent woman I married, she'll be home soon. Thanks for your reply. If I said anything offensive I apologize.

Hmmm I think I've kinda warmed up to Kommoo-o

Silvally is sick but they could gave it's attack a better name

New evos are meh

Rainbow muk is cool but a little distracting lol

Great trailer, getting even more hyped for this game. Silvally is great and so is Jangmo's evolution. Not a fan of Grimer's Alolan form, but I never plan on using him so it won't be hard for me to stay a way.

I love Tsareena, not just because its, uh, "Waifu" looking. I just love humanoid looking pokemon. If ya dont like it then dont capture it? And with Tsareena I noticed late how most generation seems to have 1 humanoid plant pokemon, its almost like a royalty theme they have going on.

Honestly surprised at the hate in here.

The slogan of the series is "Gott Catch 'em All".

It also could have been a good line. Bounsweet is adorable but the evolutions ruin it.

Exactly, she's not real. So get over it if people find her attractive.

I couldn't care less if you find her attractive, but when I have to read about it over and over again, and the comments are less "she's hot/I like her design/she looks awesome" and more "mmmm mmmm", I don't feel like staying in the thread.

I'll take 7.
*nods slightly*
All I can say is that some of the artists I support on Patreon better be getting to work.
oh, fuck.

I mean, I'm not saying people should be ashamed for feeling that way, but I do want posters to know that kind of talk might make others feel uncomfortable, especially since we're talking about a children's game.

Anyway, the thread seems to have moved past it. Thank you, slow internet.

The slogan of the series is "Gott Catch 'em All".

So?

Does that mean every pokemon is supposed to appeal to you specifically? Of course not.

I don't catch the ones I don't like. There's plenty of 'mons out there for everyone.

Personally I like the line, it reminds me a bit of Liligant and that's one of my favorite pokemon.

I haven't commented on the new human trainers yet. I really like both of their designs. I thought Ilima was a girl, but it appears to be a guy? As for Olivia, very strong look, and in the Japanese trailer she uses Lycanroc's midnight form, which is cool.

I really like all four final forms we were shown: Kommo-o, Tsarenna, Silvally and Alolan Muk.

Kommo-o is straight-up awesome. A complex but coherent design. Lovely symmetry, pleasing patterns. The concept of a Buddhist monk dragon is so cool.

Tsarenna is awesome, too. Sharp silhouette with its long legs and broad hips, and lots of style. Conveys real personality with the way it steps forward in battle.

Silvally being bright white with its power unleashed contrasts nicely with how Type: Null is dull gray with its power restrained.

Alolan Muk being a gasoline spill is so cool. I love the way the iridescent colors change on its body. Neat color scheme.

I'm tempering my expectations, 85 + 20-ish Alolan forms... I just hope there isn't too many legendaries to cut into the normal Pokemon amount.

And so you'll never have the Shiny Charm. "Don't catch what you don't like" is meh advice lol. That said, I don't dislike the line, though I like Steenee more than Tsareena. Steenee's adorable, Tsareena kinda creeps me out, it's supposed to intimidate due to some royal presence but it just straight looks creepy to me for some reason lol.

Plenty of Pokemon I'm not a fan of out there but that just means they sit in a box just for the purpose of my Living Dex. This generation's reveals have had a surprisingly large amount I don't care for though which caught me off guard coming off last gen where I liked a lot of them.

Silvally is a big improvement over Type: Null, and retroactively improves its design — Silvally being bright white with its power unleashed, while Type: Null is dull gray with its power restrained.
Also note that its name is Silver + buddy/ally/comrade in all languages (though Chinese also adds "Warbeast" because why not). Type: Null went through who knows what and doesn't trust people, but if a trainer's nice to it it opens up, breaks through the mask (which apparently it could do all along but just didn't feel like it), and becomes their bro until the end. How adorable!

...Also corny in a way but this game is still largely marketed at children.

LOL. So if the leaks are real, there's going to be around 20ish more new Pokemon that have not been revealed, excluding Alolan forms??? 😂

I won't be upset at The Pokemon Company for revealing so many Pokemon before launch, I will be upset at the low number of new Pokemon two generations in a row if the leaks turn out to be real.

In case you're interested, here's a list of Pokemon officially revealed prior to launch for the previous generations:

Gen 3: 37 of 135
Gen 4: 30 of 107
Gen 5: 52 of 156
Gen 6: 42 of 72

Prior to Gen 6, you had around 70-100 new Pokemon to discover. What happened after Gen 5? 😭

Before anyone posts, quality and quantity are NOT mutually exclusive.

I'm all for waifu humor (mainly because I think the word "waifu" is funny), but I'm a bit bummed that Tsarenna is ruined for some people just because some people on the Internet will misuse its design. It's a really strong design. I didn't care much for Bounsweet, so I'm pleasantly surprised it evolved into something so striking (rather than something like Cherrum, which seemed more likely).

Regarding the number of new Pokemon, ~80 Pokemon would be fine, especially if it's not counting Alolan forms. As for ones I'm eager to see, I'm really interested to know the evolution(s) of Pikipek, Wimpod, Komala, Pyukumuku and Morelull.

Seriously, how many of these designs do you guys hate? I think Tsareena fits just fine, if not perfectly with the rest of the Humanoid plants.

Made this in a few minutes with the pokemon I remember, pretty sure there are one or two plants im missing.

Had the same reaction.

The effort required to get a shiny charm isn't really worth clogging your boxes with a bunch of crap you either don't want or need, especially when that space would be better occupied by legions of genetically engineered super babies.

Game Freak knew exactly what they were doing when they designed a feminine looking plant with long legs and its signature move being a foot attack.

Eh, no biggy. I've tried breeding for a shiny a few times but I have very little patience for the whole thing. I've only ever seen a single shiny in all my years since playing gen 1 (well I guess I should count from gen 2 since that's when they started, but y'know what I mean), and that was way back in gen 2. A drowzee. That's how crap my luck's been. No charm's gonna help me.

If you're suggesting Tsarenna is catering to foot fetishists, might I point out that it doesn't have feet but rather sharp pointy spears.

Trop Kick must HURT. (Also, what a great name for a move!)

Yeah, Shiny charm hardly does shit. You get that shit from the jump in the hacks and I only encountered a shiny once that wasn't given during the game's campaign.

I've seen a bunch of people refer to Ilima as a guy but I didn't see anything in the [eng/jpn] trailers or on the sites that actually reveals that. Like you, my first impression was that they are a girl. Unless someone has the sauce right now, I think we need to wait for confirmation.

Who knows how much GameFreak will grow the pokedex vertically (a.k.a. in terms of numbers), but they sure have grown it horizontally (a.k.a. alternate forms). Oricorio is like four Pokemon in one. Minior transforms. Lycanroc has two forms. Of course you have all the regional forms. They're still packing in plenty of new designs to oogle.

Honestly I'm ok with less new pokemon with each gen. We're going to be encroaching 1000 pokemon before we know it so I would think it's best to focus on a smaller amount while creating mechanics or QoL changes to older mons to either make them relevant or bring them back into relevance.

I don't really care all that much if the Pokemon count is less than 100, but the Pokemon Company needs to stop revealing so many if that is the case. The starter evolutions will be a nice surprise for me, because I avoided spoilers the whole time. Hopefully there are enough unrevealed Pokemon to still make Sun and Moon feel fresh.

The Dragon-type line looks awesome. The others are just OK.

If the 80 new mons leak is correct then there are only 27 Pokemon left in the game. If you take away the evolutions of the starters since we've already seen them , the snowman, and the dolphin then there are only 22 left in the game.
If there are only 27 left, they'll likely include:

- Three other island guardians
- Marshadow
- The dolphin
- The snowman
- The final starters

And likely at least one evolution for each of the following:

- Pikipek
- Komala
- Wimpod
- Comfey
- Salandit
- Pyukumuku
- Wimpod

Which leaves 11 Pokemon.

Subtract another 2-4 from that total if the dolphin and snowman evolve. Subtract another point for each of the above that you think has a third evolution.

What annoys me is, if the count is gonna be under 100, why not just reveal 1 or 2 Pokemon a month til release? Why dump entire evolution lines on us? Did we need to see Charjabug AND Vikavolt? Or Jangmo-o's entire line at once? It's like there's no breathing room.

I don't mind knowing the Pokemon beforehand. I always know every Pokemon before release since they always leak anyways. The fun part will be playing the game and actually making teams with these new Pokemon. If I really wanted to be surprised by the Pokemon themselves, I wouldn't be clicking on these threads.

Olivia battle intro is miles better than the still image that the gym leaders got in X and Y and is what I expected from Game Freak.

I am really going to enjoy Sun and Moon and I feel that any flaws with the game won't bother me as much.

I feel like Pokemon threads almost need a "Waifu talk = BAN" thing going on.

This shit is embarrassing.

Agreed, keep it in your pants guys you're making us look bad.

Game Freak knew exactly what they were doing when they designed a feminine looking plant with long legs and its signature move being a foot attack.

Before you start spouting nonsense;

"There might also be discussions about Pokemon and their appearance -- maybe it's got nails so we focus on that element for its attacks."

That's a statement from Masuda when they were asked about Pokémon design process

Tsareena seems to be a physical attacker that attacks with her legs so it makes sense that they took that into account when designing her.

Mangosteens are called the queen of fruits, this is a simple visual pun.

This too.

The whole Waifu pandering is just nonsense as Game Freak goes to great effort in keeping Pokémon kid friendly.

Heck they even removed the gaming corner just to keep the low age rating.

Agreed, for me knowing the Pokémon in advance doesn't bother me as for me Pokémon is about the adventure, talking to the NPC, soaking up the region lore and enjoying the story.

Your count is a bit off since Pikipek is already known to have three evolutions. Here's an accurate count without the rumored Pokemon. (link)

That leave us with 18 unrevealed Pokemon. I doubt that GameFreak would bother hiding 18 measly Pokemon before the pre-release.

There's a playboy bunny Pokemon that gets ripped leggings when it mega evolves. They definitely design some Pokemon to pander to the waifu crowd.

I think some of you need to stop wanting to have sex with pokémons that look somewhat humanoid
On a similar note, if people could stop linking me to Pokephilia then that would be great.

Just because I'm into pokesmut doesn't mean I actually want to bang one you assholes.

There are over 700 of these fuckers that's what happened. They are definitely trying to keep the count of pokemon low.

I don't think so. There isn't really anything to suggest that other than forms being a big thing, and forms have been around for a long time. Lycanroc is not exceptional, and neither is Wishiwashi. Then you have the fact that Type: Null straight up evolves when it's evolution could be a form change. Alolan forms are probably the best shot for this argument, but I still think it's clear that it's more of a way to freshen up old Pokémon (and maybe add potential value to future remakes like Sinnohhhhhh).

Anyway, I don't think there's a clear patten that says they're trying to cut back. I'll eat crow on that if Gen VII has less than 100 Pokémon. But for now I'm going to keep expecting Ohmori to overdeliver on this game (because he's really doing a stellar job so far). I'll call it cautious optimism.

I'll also straight up disagree that they should cut back. There's no convincing argument for them trying to hold back. New Pokémon are what keep the series fresh, and that's pretty obvious I think.

And btw I think regional variants are really friccin cool. I think rather than them trying to be a "replacement for new Pokémon," they should be a way to inject a little nostalgia into every new game and celebrate old designs through a new lens. I would be thrilled with lots of regional variants, but I must disagree that they should start to focus on them than new Pokémon.
