New Pokemon Sun and Moon trailer!

I don't mind knowing the Pokemon beforehand. I always know every Pokemon before release since they always leak anyways. The fun part will be playing the game and actually making teams with these new Pokemon. If I really wanted to be surprised by the Pokemon themselves, I wouldn't be clicking on these threads.

Admittedly it's not a huge problem for me, but I've seen enough people including friends who are bummed about it where I wish they'd ease it up a bit.

I'm just salty that we're finally getting worldwide releases, which means for the first time ever there actually is decent potential for a surprise while playing the games in the west, but now they've decided to reveal all the cards before they launch.

in an ideal world, I think I would want 100+ new pokemon, 20+ region variants, and 10+ megas every new gen, and then the same amount of regionals and megas for remakes

This. Plus I like to know which Pokemon I'm going to train during the campaign.

I'm all for waifu humor (mainly because I think the word "waifu" is funny), but I'm a bit bummed that Tsarenna is ruined for some people just because some people on the Internet will misuse its design.
Surely people aren't making a conscious choice not to like a design just because it might appeal to the waifu crowd?

Personally the overly feminine Pokemon designs don't appeal to me at all, just as I assume some people don't like overly masculine ones. It has nothing to do with whatever anyone else is thinking about them. I do regularly refer to them as 'waifu' designs though, mainly because it's a funny word but also because it kinda has become synonymous with feminine designs at this point.

I don't like Tsareena or Lurantis or Gardevoir or the leaked evolution for Popplio. I still like my 'cool' mons.

Sun and Moon isn't a worldwide release, Europe is getting the game 5 day later so the element of surprise would be gone for European fans.

X and Y to date is the only main series game to have a worldwide release date.

There's a playboy bunny Pokemon that gets ripped leggings when it mega evolves. They definitely design some Pokemon to pander to the waifu crowd.

I need to look up Waifu. I keep hearing/seeing this term especially in the Persona threads and have no idea what it means.

I think it's disgusting what a certain part of the fanbase do with fanart with of female design Pokémon.

Soundproof 100%

I guess because of Hypervoice? What about Moon Blast? Would Soundproof block Moon Blast?

That's just because Europe fucked it all up last time around.

I didn't realize that, that sucks.

Yeah, this would've been great.

A waifu is a fictional woman you want to be with romantically and sexually. Most people use the term jokingly but it's so prevalent that it's hard to tell when someone is joking and when someone is being serious.

Only if Megas are retconned to not be only for last stage Pokemon so that GF can go back and make proper evolutions for some Pokemon in the future. I definitely think that Regional variants are the 'new' Megas and that they realized some of the hangups of:

a) making Megas into mega powerful Pokemon that are supposed to be insanely more powerful than regular Pokemon

b) making them exclusive to final forms, pretty much killing off any possibility of ever revisiting that Pokemon again.

No Soundproof only blocks noise base moves like Super Sonic, Uproar, hyper voice, etc.

Bulletproof blocks Moonblast.

That's just because Europe fucked it all up last time around.

So did Canada and they're getting the game day one, plus we all know that had it happen in the US they would get away unpunished.

It's dumb and punishes the fans for something that isn't their fault.

I didn't realize that, that sucks.

Yeah and because the game are releasing on Wednesday, it means that I won't be able to play them till Thursday as I finish work late and won't feel like playing the game.

So I will have to go silent from the internet when they release.

I wish I read this before I looked up the term. I'm kind of annoyed/pissed.

Thanks for the reply and I hope PokéGaf has a goodnight.

"Waifu" just means a fictional character you find attractive in some fashion (usually female, since I guess "husbando" is the male equivalent). It could be how the character looks (cute, hot, etc), but it could also be the character's personality. It's just a way of saying you really like the character, the joke being you'd marry them if they were real and interested.

Personally, I use the word because it sounds funny. I also use it to compliment designs I find aesthetically pleasing. All with the caveat that I value fictional characters different from real people. With real people, their mind and emotional makeup takes priority because, y'know, they have a soul. :-)

I trust most people use it the same way, which is why I find it largely harmless. It's just a funny word.

I really don't get this need for 100+ new Pokemon, or why regional variants and megas aren't good enough to make up the difference. Things that didn't exist before a gen should be free game, and there shouldn't be some arbitrary number that needs to hit every single time just because.

Edit: Also, Bulletproof does not block Moonblast

Kommo-o is scratching an itch I didn't quite realize I have. Namely, I've been craving more badass Pokemon. I love pretty much all of the designs so far, but aside from Wishiwashi's school form, most of the ones shown so far don't look particularly fierce. I trust we'll get more of this as we start to see more evolutions.

Regional variants I'm fine with counting. They're functionally new Pokemon. Megas, not so much. I don't count Origin Giratina or Sky Shaymin as new Pokemon, they're just form changes. Megas are in-battle form changes.

I can't believe the Arceus clone thing is turning out to be true

If you're going to try to make a Pokemon that can stand up against those from mythology, you might as well aim for god.

yeahhhhhh or you're just seeing what you want to see. megas aren't going anywhere. we will probably see primal arceus in DPPt remakes, and it will be even more broken than M Ray. If GF felt the same way as you about megas they would have done away with them already (for the second time really, because ORAS could have retconned them too), poke bank doesnt even support items and theyre making a point of bringing back mega stones.

I'm willing to avatar bet someone that we will see a new mega or primal in Sun and Moon.

I don't see how it's difficult to understand different people having different expectations of their Pokemon games, a franchise known for its multitude of features and systems and mechanics is going to have fans that look forward to different stuff in every game. Some people's boxes are being ticked off (like yours, and mine, for the record) and for some they aren't. It's as simple as that.

Makes some sense when you think about it.

Especially as this generation we'll be having Diamond/Pearl remakes and that's the generation that introduced Arceus. I like the idea of legendaries having connections beyond their original generation, anyway. Its interesting.

Depending on how the transition to the NX goes DP remakes will either be this gen or next gen. I'd rather them sooner than later and on the NX assuming they are Diamond, Pearl and Platinum remakes and not just DP.

Honestly what I first thought of when I saw Tsareena.

Just as creepy of an image for me in both cases honestly.

I get it now. Seems like a fun and light hearted term for most.

I just made the mistake of looking it up.

I have been itching to return to Sinnoh but the Gen 4 battle speed has kept me from replaying them. I also hope it's this gen instead of the next.

Regional variants and megas aren't good enough to make up the numbers because they are either redesign of existing Pokémon or a temporary form changes thus doesn't count as a new Pokémon.

The reason why people put stock for a larger new Pokémon count is that it comes with a range of type diversity thus giving players more option to play around with their team.

I myself ran into this problem in gen 6 when none of the new electric type were good enough and I had to resort to using a non Kalos Pokémon thus breaking my desire of having an all Kalos team.

Plus with a lower Pokémon count it means that they get buried by the older Pokémon and don't stand out well.

I can't believe the Arceus clone thing is turning out to be true

I know, I can't wait to see how it will play out in the story as I have a feeling that I will really enjoy the story.

If the NX port rumor is true I firmly believe it will be DPPt or Sun 2/Moon 2/Eclipse/...Z?. 6 months after march is late enough for the next release

That specific desire to have more just for the sake of having more is something that I do not understand. You can write it off as "everyone has opinions", but it's a weird hang up for people to have to me.

more pokemon = more potential favorites imo

but im also not too worried about it.

sense of adventure, immersion, music, escapism is what im in it for...if it werent for my imagination I have no doubt I would not have lasted through the sprite era as long as I did. this game got me through a rough childhood bro *sniff*

Type coverage is a big reason. In X/Y not only was there only one new poison line, it was also a version exclusive. That was bullshit.

Really? Its helmet thing was a hint somewhat.

The helmet, the body structure, the fact that Type:Null is created by man and it's bio all pretty much hinted the connection between Type:Null and Arceus.

Just that some people doubted it till Silvally pretty much straight up confirmed it.

Sinnoh confirmed

And so it starts. ;p

Still though I would love a Sinnoh remake as it's my favourite region.

Exactly, plus ground users were out of luck as the were only two new ground type and one is a legendary Pokémon that you can't get till post game.

Type coverage was a big problem in X and Y.

Eh, I dunno if they'd end up on the NX. Its possible, but the last time this happened, Game Freak took their sweet time and released B2W2 on the DS.

The new Pokemon are the draw; the games are the compliments. Together, they payoff in a way that makes each generation enjoyable.

What is a new Pokemon game but without new Pokemon? A spin-off, a remake, or a sidestory.

What are new Pokemon but without a new game? Forms, alterations, or gimmicks.

Can't have one without the other. That's the recipe for a "true" generation.

Honestly I am expecting gen 8 to the first Pokémon game for the NX and not a Sun and Moon port/Third version or Sinnoh remake.

Every Nintendo handheld has always started with a new Generation and the NX won't be any different.

The variants may as well be new Pokemon. New types, new moves, new stat distributions, to act as if they aren't substantial additions to the game just because they share a species with something. To act as if they, as well as megas, do not add to the games diversity is extremely silly. Just because it's not "brand new" (I mean, they kind of are) doesn't mean they're any less important than other new Pokemon. If a new Pokemon isn't good enough to stand out against the old guard, oh well. Either suck it up and use it anyway, or use what's better for your team.

I've been waiting for some fierce/badass looking designs too, but Kommo-o doesn't scratch that itch for me at all. It looks too goofy to be intimidating imo.

Not that I want to avoid the topic, but we should probably stop talking about waifus before the thread derails itself.

On topic: So is it confirmed that we are getting trial captains for each type? I mean now with the reveal of Olivia and Illma I remembered that rumor.

Probably. We've seen trial captains doing the Z move dances so it seems like that's how we'll get the Z crystal of each type.

Olivia isn't a trial captain.

To me, an Ice/Fairy Ninetales or a Fire/Ghost Marowak is more usable than, say, a brand-new Pokemon that's yet another pure Water-type. So playing with them will prove to be much more worthwhile. New moves, new ability, new type combo means more to get out from it. That's what makes Alolan forms so interesting and what disappointed me about Mega evolutions - just power upgrades that may not result in any actual change to the Pokemon because it was temporary.

But. But but but... A completely original Pokemon like Passimian or Wishiwashi opens up doors for new opportunities that they've never tried before. It gets people talking. It freshens things up and expands the world in a meaningful way. The more, the better, to be honest. 100. 150. Heck, even 200. There's no number too big on the amount of new Pokemon that can be created.
