New Pokemon Sun and Moon trailer!

It's pure speculation but maybe the reason why Tsareena and Bruxish has different ability is because it's not totally the same

The wording is a little bit different, Dazzling seems to blocks moves that "strikes" (meaning it deals damage) while Queenly Majesty blocks any priority moves without telling if it's a priority moves that deals damage or not. Pure speculation again but that would be great to have Pokemon that shut completely prankster Pokémons.

Dazzeling could also mean not blocking moves with negative priority, since they still are priority right? So Queenly majesty would block Dragon Tail and Dazzeling wouldn't.

No Soundproof only blocks noise base moves like Super Sonic, Uproar, hyper voice, etc.

Bulletproof blocks Moonblast.

I'm breeding on of each ability then, didn't know moonblast was a bullet move.

Bulbapedia has a handy list of which moves each ability blocks on their respective page.

I find this weird, we still don't know the evolution of Pikipek. At this point before X&Y, we already knew about Talonflame. Wonder why they haven't revealed it yet.

Not huge on Bounsweet3...

The second evo is adorable, though!
I'm warming up to Tsareena once I realised she was more ojousama than dominatrix (pokemon S&M?) but agreed: Steenee is hyper cute. I actually squealed with delight when they unveiled it :3

Did anyone watch the GameExplain preview event Q&A? They said that they didn't even make it to the first trial yet saw a new Pokemon. They also said that there team was around level 10-12, so that probably rules out any evolutions of anything we've already seen. Now, they may have just been talking about Alolan Grimer because from the trailers it looks like that will be catchable early on but they never specified.

How is Focus Blast protected by Bulletproof and not Moon Blast?

I haven't battled in awhile but when I did I always saw Moon Blast more than Hypervoice.

Yeah I noticed that too. Even though it may just be Alolan Grimer that's amazing in my book because I want to raise up a Rainbow Muk. They also said there's a good mix of old and new Pokémon in the trailer battles which is hype for me.

Because in Japan it is called "Fighting Spirit Bullet"

Moonblast is known in Japan as moon force. The original Japanese names are what matter for abilities like this, not the localised names.

The Japanese name for Focus Blast is called 'Spirit Bullet' or something like that. Same goes for a few other moves, like Acid Spray.

EDIT: What's really weird is how Gyro Ball is blocked by Bulletproof despite not having a different name, making contact and being described as a spinning tackle

Because you're looking at the English names in a Japanese game. Focus Blast is "Kiai Dama", more like an energy bomb kinda thing effectively, like you'd expect from DBZ or something, while Moonblast is just "Moon Force".

Edit: Too slow.

Makes sense but at the same time it's inconsistent. The Pokémon company is an international organization. They have the money to make sure that attack names and abilities are consistent with their international fanbase and not just their Japanese fanbase.

I also just realize that Mimikyu shuts down Kommo-o hard.

It wasn't a thing that mattered (in regards to these attacks, because they were just names attached to attacks as far as we were all concerned) until XY where Bulletproof was introduced. While I agree and wish they'd stuck closer to the source, they didn't and I can understand not retconning the established names.

Main E4 team is on lock.

Litten
Vikavolt
Alolan Ninetales
Alolan Exeggcutor
Lycanroc (Midday)
Kommo-o

I usually switch out the early game bug later on but Vivillion was actually fucking awesome throughout XY and I kept going back to it so Vikavolt might be similar

Bulletproof didn't exist until Gen VI, whereas most of the moves it blocks were introduced before that.

Also, doing direct translations for some moves isn't always possible. Cut is based off of a Japanese sword technique. Another one is Night Slash, where its Japanese name literally means "Crossroad Killing".

I understand that and I forgot Bulletproof is relatively new.

I don't expect direct translation. GameFreak are not indie devs. I just want them to be consistent on a international level since they are a international company. That's all.

Current planned team
Rowlet
Alolan Ninetales
Alolan Raichu
Passimian
Lyrcanroc Day
Wishiwashi

Funny thing is I'm getting Moon and 2 of the pokemon I currently want are Sun exclusive. Trade with me gaf.

early gen translation and back then they didn't really care much. With that said they were consistent in the names in Japanese.

To be fair. The early Gens were released in a different era in the industry. The Internet wasn't wide spread so back then kids like myself only had gaming magazines. TPCi was not as big back then compared to now and I doubt they had the money they have now.

They have grown so much over the years and now that they can release their games world wide on the same day they still don't take the time to make the small stuff like I described consistent world wide.

I'm also '#teamMoon' but the only sun pokemon so far I'm fussed about is midday rockwolf (I prefer it to shadow the werehog)

Team selections are starting to look like this now for moi:
* Popplio3
* Ribombee
* Mimikyu
* Steenee/Tsareena/Lurantis/Lilligant/Goddamnitwhyaretheyallmonograss???
* MAWILE :P

Looks like Turtonator and Drampa are both standalone single stage Pokemon, images have surfaced of their Pokedex entry screen. May also be version exclusives.

This doesn't bother me if true. For me they're both PC fodder.

Edit: I thought I had my team planned out for my first run threw. Then Alolan Muk appeared. Now I'm back to the drawing board.

Alolan Muk is really unique. I hope he has the stats to make him viable for a Meta team.

This is what I instantly thought when I saw Tsareena:

What team you got cooking..

It's really weird we haven't seen Pikipek's 2nd evolution yet. Usually they'll show the regional bird's evolution much earlier than they have at his point. Hell, we've even possibly seen the psuedo's complete line before Pikipek 2.

Isn't the rumor that he's Normal/Steel? That's a pretty good defensive typing, minus the major fighting weakness.

* Steenee/Tsareena/Lurantis/Lilligant/Goddamnitwhyaretheyallmonograss???

Lurantis > the rest. But I feel your pain. :P

I think Lurantis is my favorite of the gen so far. Reminds me of a more feminine Scyther. I shall call her... Fleur! Or maybe Orchid...

Kommo-o - I love his art design

Alolan Muk - The typing is good and the flowing rainbow design with the toxic rock like teeth is pretty awesome

Silvally (Fairy most likely) - I'm interested in his lore and how he came to be. He must've been threw some crap being constructed.

Starter - Leaning towards Rowlet

Wimpod - I love it's typing and I'm curious to see what kind of monster he evolves into

Lurantis - interested but may switch her out

Mimikyu - If he evolves I'll keep him on my team

Vikavolt - typing and ability makes this Pokémon real good. If he has the stats and can still hit hard towards the end I'll keep him in

Pikapek - curious on its final typing. Will use until I find something better

Kommo-o, Rowlet, Silvally, and Alolan Muk are the main stay of my team. They're so many I want to try out that I can't zero in on just six Pokémon. I want to see all the Alolan forms too. Alolan Muk so far is my favorite form but would like one more Alolan form for my team.

You have anything going team wise yet?

Rowlet(grass/flying)-Guess we'll both have rowlet lol only starter I like.

Komala(normal) -the lil thing is too cool to pass up even if it doesn't evolve

Minior(rock/flying)-such a cool design especially the inner shell.

Alolan raichu(electric/psychic)-Love the surfer aspect and I'm sure it'll be a monster on my team

Passimian(fighting)-its a rugby monkey.. enough said

Last one is still pending for me.

I really like Silvally for some reason, wasn't really a fan of Type: Null. Looks obviously inspired by the Mušḫuššu, a Babylonian creature that's depicted on the Ishtar Gate. I guess that can also tie into how it's a human made Pokemon that wants to be legendary (Arceus) so bad.

Nice. Reading your team build help me focus in on my team.

Rowlet
Kommo-o
Silvally
Alolan Muk
Wimpod
Undecided

Since you're getting Sun (Passimian, told me that) I can always trade you a Moon exclusive if you want it for your team like a Night Rockruff.

We still doing the rival battles?

Looking at our teams we both don't seem to give a single shit about balance lol.

Of course we're still doing it. Said you'd figure out the details. Buying my ds November 11th miss out on ash greninja but meh don't really care for it

Nice seeing an Alolan Muk fan. I like his design, too. I can stare at those colors all day!

I definitely plan on training a Kommo-o. One of my favorite designs ever. I love the typing too.

I'm tempted to raise a Tsareena. Not normally into pure Grass-types, but the design is just too good and looks great next to Kommo-o. (On this note, I also like Lurantis, another pure Grass-type.) I'm also tempted to raise Lycanroc [Midnight]. His design has really grown on me.

Among other Pokemon:

Oranguru looks neat. Crabrawler and Pallosand are both deeply amusing. Oricorio [Baile] and Oricorio [Sensu] are elegant. Mudsdale is majestic. Wishiwashi [School Form] is fierce, and such a clever concept. I also want a Turtonator, but it looks like it will be a Sun exclusive, and I currently plan to go with Moon, so I may have to trade. (Drampa is not a bad consolation prize, though!)

In terms of starters, I'd like to raise all three, but if I had to choose... I really like the entire Litten line. Torracat is probably my favorite starter middle form ever. And I really like the heel wrestler it becomes in the end.

Among the Alolan forms, I'm really smitten with Exeggutor, Marowak, Raichu and Muk. I also really like the new Meowth, but I want to see what Alolan Persian is like.

In terms of yet-to-be-seen Pokemon, I want to see the dolphin and snowman! Also, possible evolutions for Pyukumuku and Komala.

AH SO MANY GOOD POKEMON.

I can't prove he designed it, but Lycanroc [Midnight] strikes me as a James Turner design. Wouldn't look out of place as a villain in Harmo Knight or Tembo the Badass Elephant.

We talking teams? I don't usually like to plan mine out in advance, since one of the fun things about Pokemon for me is just finding teammates out of necessity and growing to love them--plus lots of times Pokemon that I want to use aren't even available until near the end of the game, lol. If I had to pick right now, though, I'd probably go with:

Rowlet OR Popplio
Pyukumuku OR Lurantis
Vikavolt
Turtonator
Passimian
Mimikyu

I haven't quite decided what I'm doing about my starter just yet. My first choice when the starters were first revealed was Popplio, and I've never gone back on my first choice before...but Pyukumuku's one of my new favorite Pokemon, and while I'm not opposed to occasionally doubling up on types when there are differing secondary types, doubling up on Water Pokemon doesn't really appeal to me. Plus Rowlet's final evolution looks ace, but I like Popplio's, too...so I just don't know what to do.

Also not sure whether or not I'm going to use any Alolan forms in my main team. Since Gen 5 I've had a policy of only using new Pokemon on my first run through a generation so that I can develop new favorites. Alolan Pokemon are kinda straddling the line between old and new, and I sort of want to use some of them, but, well, they are still Pokemon I already know and love. Like, Ninetales is already one of my favorite Pokemon. The new ice Ninetales is awesome and beautiful, but it's still Ninetales. It doesn't broaden my horizons at all.

I guess every Sun and Moon thread eventually turns to what we're planning on using on our teams.

Here's mine based on wha's been officially shown + the starter leaks.

Moon (First Playthrough)
Popplio
Salandit
Vikavolt
Mudsdale
Morelull
Crabrawler

Sun
Rowlet
Rockruff (If Minior gets an evolution that I like then it might take this slot)
Passimian
Mimikyu/Ribombee
Komala
Pyukumuku/Wimpod

If Wimpod keeps it's bug typing when it evolves then I'll go with Mimikyu and Wimpod and if it doesn't then I'll go with Ribombee and Pyukumuku.
