New previews from Sony's Private Move Event

How on Earth is this any different from a Wii game? (Control-wise)

Watched some of the videos, Fight looks boring as hell but I can see Start the Party and Kung Fu Rider being a decent time.

To me none of the sound effects in fight sound like they have any impact, except the ones when you're getting hit. Its weird.

If Sony is able to make a more substantial distinction between its motion tech offerings vs. the Wii than Microsoft does... both in terms of game focus (which seems likely) and motion implementation (which is a genuine possibility)... it will be considered a major E3 "win" for them and a significant dropping of the ball by MSFT. Especially when you consider the inherent advantages Kinect has over Move in terms of capabilities and potential.

Granted E3 wins don't necessarily translate into wins at the sales counter (Sega won an E3 during the Dreamcast era), it's still something to chirp about.

I don't think shooters will sell me on this because I'm perfectly fine with dual analog for that and won't change anytime soon, maybe I'll change my mind later, but for now the games that could sell me on move is stuff like:

- Civilization Rev 2, Civ V, Starcraft 2, etc (Highly unlikely)
- Adventure games like the old LA remakes (Monkey Island, MI2, etc)
- Minna No Golf 6, Minna No Tennis 2, Minna No Baseball (Likely)

There really isn't going to be any room for it this year. TLG deserves to get some spotlight to itself.
How's that? '11 seems WAY more packed than late this year. We have GT5 and LBP2, sure, but I expected those are probably September, October. What will be November, December?

If Sony were really that worried about conflicting games they'd never get anything out with the amount of content they are making

Some Sony employee has already programmed the original Starcraft to work with Move. That should be something that they show to devs if it works as well as they claim.

I really can't imagine that HSG isn't in development for this thing. It's such a perfect fit.

It's just based on pointing... of course it's not going to be massively different as this is pretty much the simplest form of motion control you can do.

Funny how not so long ago people were saying that pointing looked shit and would never work with Move, yet now we hear "but but but this is exactly like RE4!" (which AFAIK is considered the best use of motion controls for a shooter on the Wii).

IMO we are still waiting for a stand out shooter on Wii to get it right. There are many that get bits and pieces right, but I don't think its there yet. Maybe the more shooter-focused PS3 will do it

I can't believe they led with Sports Champions and didn't go with a cute Everybody's Sports.

Game looks good, motion controls not so much.
Just get the corner hugging out of the MP and they have something there I might be interested in.
As for impressions I would take greg miller's enthusiasm with a grain of salt.

They have GT5, SOCOM 4 and LBP2. On top of that they're going to have to push Move and exclusive titles for it. There are always dead periods in a year, no matter how packed it may seem, so there will be a spot in 2011 for them to release TLG.

4 years later.

Sony and Microsoft are tripping all over themselves with this shit. I feel like if they were going to try this, they should have waited til next generation so we won't have to deal with all these simple "Wow the screen moves like I do" nongames that I suspect we'll be deluged with soon.

I think i read that they've already said no deal on MOVE support :(

Lame. Treyarch is doing it, and they're already making a Black Ops for Wii. And they made CoD4 for Wii. Ridiculous that they wouldn't add in MOVE for PS3.

Definitely a lost opportunity for Sony because that would be a real defining feature for their version of CoD. And personally, I'd love to see the social experiment of MOVE users playing against dual analog players.

Socom 4 looks great, the other Move games I'm not so sure about yet.

It's the techdemos and the potential of Move that have me hyped for it.

NO ONE CARES IF IT IS OR ISNT LIKE THE WII. GET OVER IT.

I swear...It's got some Wii games, fucking yipee. It needs them if it wants to be successful. We all know the technology can offer more. Get the fuck over it.

There's a perception that a vocal minority of console warriors were decrying that the Wii controls weren't that much better than dual analog all of a sudden are okay with the control scheme as soon as it was implemented on their console of choice, which some are trying to call out.

Whether this is actually more than mere perception remains in question.

Prime 3 got it right in my opinion. Very tight and appropriate controls. I haven't played any of the shooters on Wii but I hear the Call of Duty/Modern Warfare games get it right. And I remember Conduit have very good controls. I'm not sure how the PS3 is more shooter-centric though. Hasn't the Xbox always been the platform for this?

because its not a gimmick, didn't you read the ign article?

So basically when I said "if you have to compare the two, do so without trolling" and "if you see someone you thought was trolling, you don't need to troll them back", you thought I meant "let's rev up for a little bit of drive-by action NINTARDS U DIDN'T BELIEVE!!!!!"

I can see this is going to be a wonderful year.

Yeah and the wiimote didn't do any better (and often worse) than a mouse/KB as far as FPS go, 15 years later. Your point being?

I think the main problem with some FPS on the Wii with the insanely large bouncing box (as in, you have to slam the cursor against the very edge of the screen to get the camera to turn around).

I really hope there is some mad 'indy' type games in the vain of Flower at the show, that would really go a long way to help convince some of the naysayers I believe.

Yeah I was surprised about that also. Clap Hanz would've been the perfect choice to create a sports compilation title. But as long as they're working on a new full HSG, I guess it's not too big of a deal.

The Conduit improved on Prime 3 because you could customize almost everything. Modern Warfare: Reflex improved on The Conduit because you could customize even more, and the game was just better.

PS3 is pretty much getting the same non-Halo shooters as the 360. If SOCOM and Killzone have MOVE support and other games pick it up, it'll be the best console for shooters.

I've been defending pointer on FPSes for a while. So I'm glad more people are beginning to understand. It's just plain superior to dual stick.

I agree. But still the characters in SC look so bland. The Everybody's characters are cute :(

Honestly, I think you just need to tell people not to compare period. Or keep it in another thread. Same for kinect. I'm just sick of "Eyetoy2.0" and "WiiHD". It's grown stale and honestly dilutes any decent discussion.

See why I said talking to humans is hard?

It's like they don't hear you.

Oh the comparison of the tech doesn't hurt anything imo.

It's those getting butthurt over the comparison on both ends that are screwing up what could be a great conversation. Those that layer the comparison in disgust one way or another.

i hope all sony's first party games support move.
sony has a chanse to show it at E3 conference, sending out a clear statement, WE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT THIS.

If people just framed their comments in this generic sense, perhaps the dumb console war bullshit would be more likely avoided. Phrasing it in a way "Wii already did that why didn't you like it then" is just inviting trouble, even if the intent was what I stated above regarding the perception bit.

I actually really hope they use Move as a device that would perform equivalent functions to a mouse e.g. RTS, RPGs and even just menu based stuff. That's where it'll really sell me.

The comparison needs to be made when all the actual games look like they can be done on existing hardware, hardware which most of the core community regards as 'meh'.

What exactly are you excited for? Pure speculation?

Have you ever played games on a Wii?

Companies copy the Wii *gasp* shock and awe. Course it was going to happen with the Wii's success. The game industry has copied each other for years especially when it has come to control schemes and styles as well.

What they do with the controls game wise is the othe matter.

Absolutely. A major knock on Sports Champions is the look and HSG's characters are definitely much more appealing

I've been waiting for years to see it on the Wii.

I need to see how strongly Sony has been courting 3rd parties to see if you should hold your breath or not.:lol

God some of you are fucking dense.

Jesus Fucking Christ. I wasn't bashing it. But Sony has said, time after time, that "Move" is not a Wiimote clone. I have no problem with it being a Wiimote clone. I LIKE the Wiimote.

The people in this thread are awfully defensive.

Edit: That was kind of unfair. This reply is mainly directed at MrPliskin.

I forsee the only good thing to come of this E3 will be the fanboys worshipping and parodying the PR reps than enjoying the game news itself.

i think 3d / move support is pretty much granted for all first party games. it would be wise for them, if they want people to buy 3d tv's and get on the move train.
