Damn the 2nd half of I appear missing made an already great song even better.

Not a huge fan of keep your eyes peeled or clockwork but they're growing on me a little. If I had a tail is my favorite so far

Yeah, the I Appear Missing guy, from what my gut feeling is, is a hopeless romantic. Falls in love (the rising feeling) only to get dropped (splat), then picks himself up again, and does it all over again.

The Eyes Peeled guy, looks like Homme, and after reading his death story from knee surgery, the Eyes Peeled guy has a knee/leg brace on, reinforcing my opinion.

The other 2, I have no idea. Creepy "guy", perhaps looking for love but only can destroy the other person. Blue Hair lady(?) just wants to burn it all, even if she dies, similar to the Eyes Peeled guy.

Actually, the guy in I Appear Missing is supposedly about Homme's near death experience. The lyrics are quite dark and brilliant indeed.

Just got back from the LA show. Absolutely incredible and the house about came down when they ended with song for the dead. Off the top of my head they played:

Entire new album minus fair weather friends
Millionaire
No one knows
First it giveth
Song for the dead
Make it whichu
Go with the flow
I think I lost my headache
Turning on a screw
Sick sick sick
I never came
Little sister
Feel good hit of the summer

The new album sounds even better live. God bless you queens!

I'm pretty sure I Appear Missing is now one of my all time favorite QOTSA songs. God damn.

Can't fucking wait for them to come here for ACL. gah!

Nice, man! I was there too! Lucked out and got in the pit. Song for the dead fucking killed. Everyone went insane down there. I fucking loved, loved loved I appear missing live. Jesus.

Oh, and If I had a tail. I'm still on a high after that show.

i'm still marveling at how good and tight the show was. did it sound to you (or anyone who watched the vid) that first it giveth was tuned incorrectly? just sounded slightly off to me. i also heard that joey castillo and nick were in attendance! i wish nick came out to do a proper version of millionaire :(

So weird you said that, I was about to post how I wish there was studio version of Millionaire with Josh singing, haha.

Sounded fine live to me, does sound a bit weird in the vid tho.

Thanks for posting the setlist. They're coming to Kansas City soon and I was thinking of going but I'll pass now. Seems they don't even recognize their best work anymore, all focused on newer stuff.

it's tough when you are an established band with a laundry list of songs that people love. for once (this rarely happens for me these days!) i was actually hoping they would play the entire new album before going to the show. it's just really good and really good live! if you have a chance to see them live i would recommend it.... they are so choice!

aww yiss

The booklet has NO artwork at all. Kind of disappointing. Maybe because it's the Japanese release? There's only the lyrics along with the Japanese translations. At least I got a sweet poster though!

I'm debating if I wanna drive 300 miles to see them play in British Columbia in August. If I could find someone I know to go too it would be a done deal.

Just listened to the stream, pretty incredible album. 'Smooth Sailing' has such a goddamn dirty riff I almost feel like I should shower after listening to it. "I got bruises and hickeys, stitches and scars/Got my own theme music, plays wherever I are" is pretty much Homme in one line.

Yeah that's a great line... And song!

When Homme nails vocals, he's one of my favorite singers to listen to. The verses of My God Is The Sun is a perfect example.

This album man.. this album. Been listening to it A LOT and I have to say this is solid. There's a lot of great songs and even the bad ones aren't that bad.

There's also "I blow my load, all over the status quo. Here we go"

please do! and post where you got it and how much it was

I've been having a hell of time getting the pics off of my phone, and that might be for the best as they are probably some of the worst pics you could ever see of this gorgeous album. I got it from the Matador online store for $50 plus shipping.

This album is dark and decadent. It's extremely personal and flows together remarkably well. Probably the most successful at being that "dark and loud" rock that Homme loves so much. The artwork really helps drive home that feeling dark and demented, and is amazingly produced. Simply gorgeous.

Once again, these pics are FAR FAR from what you should expect when you see it in person:

Definitely on par with Lullabies, which is what I wanted. Fantastic album! Kalopsia is my favorite track. Smooth Sailing wins the most fun/funky guitar solo. I Sat By The Ocean has the best intro.

Goddamn that looks good.

I didn't post everything (obviously), but I think the stuff I didn't post is even better! One of the best things I've done all year is get stoned and listen to this album while looking at the art/reading the lyrics.

Gonna ask for this for my birthday, I think. Thanks for the impressions.

I can't get enough of the verses of My God Is The Sun, but the chorus gets annoying when I listen to it too often. :-/

I actually think My God Is the Sun is the worst song on the album. I can see why they chose it as the debut single, but its the one track that I skip over the most when listening to the album.

What an awesome album. Almost worth the 6 years I had to go in between Queens albums.

I'm really into I Sat by the Ocean right now.

Really not into this album on the first few listens. To me the first half is just not that interesting. Maybe 3-4 songs I like.

I dunno, was just hoping there would be some faster songs or something with the groove of their older stuff but not feeling it.

Smooth Sailing is cool though.

Even with the glut of good music the last 5 months, this is by far front-runner for album of the year for me. Just for the one-two-three punch combo of "Kalopsia"/"Fairweather Friends"/"Smooth Sailing". Wow. And that's ignoring all the other songs.

And the vinyl is completely necessary.

Took me a while to get into the album, about a week (got access to it a little early). I had to tell myself to stop expecting what I thought QOTSA would do and appreciate the music for where Josh and co. are at in this point of their lives. I was also helped by watching that 15 minute animated video they released last month (can't link to youtube at work, sorry). Makes the album come across as a more cohesive piece of work than just a bunch of songs strung together.

All that said, I still don't love it like I do their first three albums. I do like it more than Era Vulgaris, and about as much as Lullabies.
