New Rihanna single "Diamonds"

it sounds ok...

There's a reason for that.

And before you say I’m wrong, I’ll give you two examples. Ciara and Ashanti. Ciara capitalized off of the crunk and b movement of the early 2000’s but once that time was over she didn’t evolve with the times. Same with Ashanti got caught up with the hip hip and R&B movement, but then when the trend changed to POP music, Ashanti was trapped by not evolving with the times. This is why Rihanna continues to do well; she evolves with the time because if she doesn’t, its murder she wrote.
dagger.

Wtf she's about to release her 7th album? Who likes to actually listen to this stuff?
Every Rihanna song i've heard is pretty insufferable. "Love in a hopeless place" and "only girl in the world" were the bane of my existance at work when people would listen to the pop radio station loudly. Just awful.

every song is just about her fucking everything.

i love it. it makes me want to have sex with gurlz.

"Love in a hopeless place"

She found love there, shame talent and dignity were absent.

Actually, We Found Love is a pretty good song for the first 10 times or so, utterly grating on the nerves thereafter.

She seems to have a penchant for just repeating lines ad nauseum in lieu of writing any lyrics. Judging from her twitter, that's not a surprise.

Every human that breathes has the right, nay, duty, to snatch at Rhianna's wig. She is the goddamn mayonnaise of music. Everything is so homogeneously over produced and not any fun.

I haven't listened to the song. lol.

Rihanna>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>shit>>>>>>>>Keri Hilson>>>>>Modern Madonna

Madonna from the 80's and 90's slays each current fave, though.

Madonna from the 80s and 90s is the only Madonna (I'll give her Music, though - was that 2000-2001?)

I have no idea what the look-alike we've been putting up with for the last 10 years or so has done with the real Madonna, but some day we'll find out.

Ugh.

So Kate Perry beats Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey beats The Beatles, Rhianna beats Madonna, Chris Brown beats Rhianna...

Pop music is dead.

hahahahahahahahahhaa.

but seriously....it is easier for music to get out there now. it is a whole new age and there are more people with access to songs in order to make them #1.

She hasn't beaten Madonna yet, but it's on the horizon.

Pop music isn't dead, it's just shit.

For as many singles Rihanus sells, her albums sales are much, much worse. Her stans will cling to iTunes and #1s because there really is nothing else to discuss about Rihanna without being overwhelmingly negative.

My review from the Pop Thread:

AS FOR DIAMONDS:

No tea no shade because I am here for a new Rihanna era (since I heard she's giving us more Caribbean flavor), but this song just proved that Sia is not for everybody.

Sia writes songs for singers, and Rihanna is an entertainer. Her voice was just NOT powerful or emotive enough to bring those verses to life; and the overly affected way she's deepening her voice and trying to mimic Sia's vocal mannerisms to compensate for that makes the verses nigh unlistenable to me and, worse, is an artistic knock for Rihanna. Rihanna, even though she's not the best or even an exceptional singer (most of the time), nevertheless has a natural ability to make songs her own with her unique style of vocals. I may not always like her vocals, but I always love the unique swag she brings to her music. However, she trades in that advantage here in an attempt to be a balladeer. It made me realize that, of ALL the songs Christina recorded with Sia, not once did she try to mimic her singing style.

In comparison to Christina's songs with Sia on Bionic and Sia's work with other artits, this just comes off as incredibly lazy. Instead of listening to the demo and working with Sia to create her own version, I really can't shake the feeling that Rihanna literally walked into the studio - drunk, high and impatient - listened to the demo and just sang over it.

C-

Upon a few more listens, I can say that the chorus is catchy, but not enough to make me enjoy the song overall. I think someone with a much bigger voice would have done this justice (Christina Aguilera or Leona Lewis or even Sia herself), but Rihanna is playing dress-up here.

On that note...as much as I can't stand the guy personally, is it bad that I think Rihanna's best ballads are all produced by Ne-Yo? O_o

I almost read that review, but then I saw Xtina's name plastered all over it.

:scust:

I'm on the bus with no headphones. Does this song contain any of the following:

1: wooooooooo-oooohhh-oooohh
2: ooh nah nah, nah nah
3: aahhhh- ah ah ah

If so, it is definitely a Rihanna number one hit.

My brother speaks the truth, though I would still rather pump Rhythm Nation over any Maddona.

The problem is iTunes. In the past, a song had to be legitimately good to be worthy of being released as a single -- it was a giant ad for an album. The kids buying singles now though aren't buying full albums most of the time so it doesn't even matter. There is less incentive for the artist.

They'll just release anything and kids with their parents credit cards will buy it because it's something new from an artist that Clear Channel has successfully made them think should be popular and what's a $1.29 of someone else's money to them. You click 1 button on your phone or on your computer.

The industry is a mess these days. Very few popular songs from this era will have any sort of staying power.

Just to illustrate the change:

Rihanna has sold twice as many singles as Mariah (over 100 million vs over 50 million). Meanwhile, several of Mariah's individual albums (Mariah Carey, Music Box, and Daydream) have sold more in the United States alone than Rihanna's entire discography in the United States and two of those have sold more worldwide than her entire discography worldwide.

Wigs are getting Snatched!

Rihanna might take hits but she doles them out too as #1's also

She is the Absorbing Woman!

It's actually pretty OK, though with the Stargate fellas I was hoping for more of a straight-up jam. I can already hear Sia's acoustic cover. As long as she's over Calvin Harris, I'll be fine.

I miss that CaRIHbbean sound; I hope the new album has plenty of it.

Bland, generic, boring, just meh.

Then again I'm listening to Lana Del Rey so it's easy to be hyper critical of other artists atm.

Is it true her new album is being released in November? I heard at some point she was going to take a break for the year which I thought was a good move. Releasing an album every year is scary! But I'm excited for new stuff..

It is true indeed last I checked. New album this fall.
