New Ryse: Son of Rome screenshots

Doesn't look as cool as Shadow of Rome. Man, imagine if Capcom were still cool. They could have released Shadow of Rome II to compete with this game. If only we lived in better times...

ah man the combat was so fucking good in that, these graphics with that gameplay hn ngg

Found some GamesCom footage gladiator mode. Still watching 11 min..

Combat looks better than when the game was first revealed but its still looks average i have to say. You can tell this will be a 6 or 7/10 game with the odd 8/10 thrown in, unless it improves a lot.

Also is it just me or do the characters look really weird in this video?, they look like dwarfs fighting in full size armour or something.

EDIT: Wha the hell happens at 5:20, its like he does some kind of godly electrical attack or something, does this have fantasy elemants in this game?.
Also the graphics are fucking sweet in that arena part.

is it just me or is the combat not too impressive? it feels like a mediocre game with very good graphics, this is the 1st time i see footage of it since E3 and man does it feel "off" idk

Exactly my thoughts. Game looks great, but gameplay looks terribly boring.

some screengrabs from the video

Dude needs to get that dent in his head checked out, haha.

"You mashin? bad luck son!"

If the animations would not be so twitchy and janky, this would look miles better.
Otherwise I really like what I see so far.

Also they say you can't hold up the shield, only bring it up for some counter-like move.

Yeah, I'm a bit put off by some of the animations. Hopefully they tweak them a bit.

it isn't a qte fest, but it does look like it needs a bit more polish overall. hoping it turns out good. i really like the setting.

You guys really want this game to be bad.

It's a MS exclusive so haters gotta hate. I personally think it's gorgeous and I like the setting. On a graphical standpoint you wouldn't think it's running on weak hardware.

Wonder if you can customize your character for MP. Wanna create my Titus Pullo and wreak havoc in the arena. 13th!!!!

I'm not getting an Xbox One at launch, but Ryze and and Quantic Break have me really jealous. I don't really mind the QTE stuff as long as it's done intuitively, much like it is in Heavy Rain, and if anything the QTE's in Ryze look like a very constructive evolution of the feature.

Janky animations or not, Ryse seems like the most interesting launch exclusive on either system imo.

Killzone looks fun and is graphically impressive, but I know what to expect. The same goes for Dead Rising 3. Forza and Driveclub both seem alright, but I'm not sold on either just yet and I'm not interested in any other exclusive games.

Ryse looks like it could be a button mashing borefest, but it could also be quite fun.

Crimson Dragon looks great too.

The animations are actually really good.. it is just that the animation transitions are extremely jarring. One econd a great animation is playing and then suddenly one is playing the next. Needs better transitioning between animations..

I wonder why the combos have such a hitchy, stop-start-y look to them. It reminds me of Remember Me, but in that game you created your own combos from a list of pre-defined moves. I'm guessing Ryse is going to be your standard thing of pre-defined combo strings - XX, XXX, XXY, that kind of thing - so the stilted look must be an artistic choice. I just don't know why you'd make that choice. The character doesn't carry any momentum from attack to attack, so it looks kind of like one of those low-budget '90s martial arts movies starring some mildly famous kickboxer who got a three movie deal, where nobody got paid enough to think up any interesting choreography :P

It's just so twitchy, just look at the normal sword swing, the character turns around completely and hits with his sword in like half a second, out of nowhere from the position he is standing. It has no weigth.

It's possible if Ryse's plot, story and acting is on par or above the movie Gladiator.

If Ryse wins awards, it'll be for the same reasons as Last of Us.

Plot, story and acting have always been the weakest parts of Crytek's games.

They have a long, long way to go to match Naughty Dog in that regard. I just can't see it happening.

I have a feeling they sacrificed animations to tighten up the combat. I'm cool with that.

Oh god, synced executions are so bugged right now, so terrible, they should just scrap them over to maintain consistency.

Why everyone playing this game is so terrible? What is with people slashing the air?
And there are really nice reactions from AI, like when guy couldnt even hit a barbarian with shield at the beginning, it was so amusing. AI is even taunting him, hilarious stuff :)

Its basically mash A to kill nothing :P

Have you played The Last of Us? Because it's gameplay, especially on hard, is some of the best stealth gaming to date. Winter in particular is some of the most epic gameplay of the entire generation. It isn't post-apoc Uncharted. Unless Crytek completely remakes Ryse in a matter of months it will be leagues behind TLoU in not just story and plot, but also gameplay.

It's cool you can determine this without playing one of the games you mention.
