New? Shadow of the Collosus Shots

Looks gorgeous. I hope that the variety of creatures also means a variety of gameplay. My fear with this title is that it will get too repetitive.

I dunno, it was reported that it takes 30 minutes to kill the final Collosi, I'm hoping that means its a little more complicated than *climb here*...*stab this*

My God, I haven't felt such excitement for a video game since in years... Those movies exude so much magic and mystery that I have no choice but to buy this game on Day 1.

I've never seen this kind of scale in a game before.

Regarding the "it takes 30 minutes to kill XXX" comments; If I recall correctly, the last save in ICO was about 45 minutes from the end and it really made the whole journey seem that much more epic. Once you're engrossed in something for that long it just takes on a life of its own.

I think I'm going to take release day off because there's no way in hell I'm going to get anything done at work :lol

I'm sorry, I wasn't complaining about it taking 30 minutes to kill the final XXX, I was only using that to show that it woudl be indicadive of the fact that it emplores more complex mechanics that simply climbing up for a little bit, then stabbing some glowing spot.

Oh no no, I didn't mean it like that at all- I'm not knocking you or anything :)

I totally agree that it will be that much more of an engrossing experience if anything at all. They obviously know how to work the "giant battles" system so I would expect that 30 minutes would be excellent.

Yep day one purchase for me too. This game looks far to good not to buy it on the 1st day.

I think you're thinking of the ending sequence. They said that the ending sequence takes about 30 minutes. I always thought that that meant that the ending movie would be 30 minutes, not the actual final boss fight. (Though I wouldn't be surprised if the final boss fight is longer than 30 minutes, on top of the ending movie.)

Found this interview on Gamasutra where Fumito Ueda talks about the soundtrack.

GS: The Wanda to Kyozou music was done by Kou Ohtani. Why did you choose him?

FU: ICO's composer was (female composer) Michiru Ohshima, and I didn't want to create the same image for this game. Aside from that, ICO was a game that both male and female players could enjoy equally. But I think this is a game that male players will enjoy more. So I chose a male composer.

wow that's dumb

What's so dumb about it? Bottomline he probably wanted something that sounds a bit more masculine, if you will, as the game hero is after all more grown up than Ico.

Btw, much like Flash design, gaming design needs more people like him for this fact alone:
The way I'm different from a normal producer, or a normal person, is that I really like technology, for example graphics technology and computer technology. So I feel like I can find a good balanced way to express what I want to do, within the limits of the technology. No matter what size world I want to create, I can do it, if I think about the constraints of the console, like the PS2.

People who are artists at heart, but have great understanding of technology they are working with.

I think he means that Shadow of the Collosus is a more aggressive game, so it should appropriately have more aggressive music. But defining it as a male game/composer is pretty stupid.

It sounds really sexist! Girls can't create music that sounds masculine? I thought the music in Ico was fantastic; the same gal could have created some dramatic "masculine" music for SoC

Meh, I don't see what's so stupid about it. It's simply much more likely to find a male composer who will be doing something more aggressive sounding.

DB, what makes you think he didn't already listened to her music proposal for this game? What makes you think she even wanted to make music that sounds masculine.

You haven't heard of women being chose over men because they could give music or another aspect a female touch? It doesn't only happen in games it happens in alot of different forms of media.

I guess you two don't realize the implications of the word "So" in the English language?? :P
Probably. I've noticed that way too often the sentences in the translations of what Japanese people are saying, start with "So". I never figured out why is that, always thought it was just a translation quirk, or that they way they speak in Japanese just lends itself to that type of translation.

You folded like a lawn chair, man. Is it because they're your respective superiors or something?

:lol NO I thought this reply made perfect sense

I should have quoted that.

Someone's gotten to you! Now, I have no idea how things work inside the PS2 contingent, but I can tell you that there are people that care about you and are willing to help. But first you have to help yourself. :/

What the hell are you talking about? PS2 contingent? :lol Nobody cares about me and I am not a part of some PS2 whore group! It was a dumb comment. Now if you please excuse me, I gotta an assignment to finish.

Oh God, WTF, maybe it was terribly chauvinistic comment, or maybe it's a translation thing. Seemed like a reasonable comment to me, but now I regret posting anything on that subject and derailing the thread.

Noone would probably complain if he said, "yeah we chose her as composer for Ico because we wanted to try to make it as gentle and soft as possible" but as soon as it's the other way around, it's teh shock and horror!

Man, what are you suddenly so dramatic about? I'm just harrassing Doom_Bringer in jest. Not that I don't find it strange that he was so easily dissuaded.

Anyway, my thoughts are that if we take what he said at face value, then he's saying that in order to suit the aggressive style of the game (boss battles, at least) you would necessarily require a man to compose. It's a pretty stupid thing to say, but might just be a matter of mistranslation, I agree.

Bah, I'm just sad to see the thread about the game I like get screwed up like this, especially when I look back and see that I'm mostly to be blamed for it :\

To try to get it back on track, has anyone tried calling Gamestop and asking if they've got the demo? They were supposed to get it on 16. August.

You know, this game gives me some "The Never Ending Story" vibes. Which is a good thing, btw.

I want to call the boy Atreu and be on the lookout for The Nothing.

According to most reports your sacrifice is unnecessary. :)

And um, some of us would rather not know what you unlock when you finish game until we actually finish the game ourselves. :P

Good point, sorry. :)

(I found out about it on Sony's site in the message boards. They allow(ed?) users to ask questions about the game to the SotC localization producer.)

Do you have a link to such messageboard?

On a side note, I have something like 30 posts and are a member so your presumptions are hereby declared false! :)

Do not read that forum unless you want to get even more hyped about the game.. I seriously can't remeber the last time I was excited about a game, since I hardly play stuff anymore..
