New Skate video and Q&A from IGN

I'm definatly interested, because I like skategames, but hell is this a shitty camera. Even the movements look like crap..

It's suppose to emualte skateboarding videos where someone is behind the skater filming them. Which could be an issue because while it looks nice in those videos that doesn't mean it translates well into a playable videogame camera system.

Hopefully you've got camera options, but i'd like a dynamic camera option, or at least a ground level camera for street that pans out for gaps & tricks.

Oh, and PAT DUFFY CONFIRMED! WHOOOOHOOO!!!!

I'd imagine so. The trailer as a whole is very cinematic so that low-follow view is likely purposeful for the intent of the trailer. Not including a basic traditional camera would surprise me since it's very easily done and provides an invaluable option.

Using both sticks though means no easy way to control the camera.

Well for the low-follow cam or a tradional cam, you don't really need analog sticks since they're just default cams you would switch to with a quick button press. But for a free control camera, you're potentially right but it's still hard to say without seeing the dual analog controls first hand. It could end up being impossible for the sticks to serve any secondary purpose, or perhaps the control is paced in a way that you can quickly press the analog sticks in at any time for a very brief second to free-tweak the camera and then let it lose to regain control.

The examples are irrelevant, but they illustrate how hard it is to really conclude anything without more detail or likely first-hand experience. It's why I prefer to just give the designers the benefit of the doubt until we get some hands-on reports.

Yeah, I'm in total agreement. There's a lot of promise here, so no point in going negative until there's proof there's something to be negative about. I mean, I liked Project 8, but it's practically not a skating game at all. A newcomer is quite welcome.

Just watched the video!!! Holy hell, great way to sneak in the huge moves, as Danny Way really can go that big on those 'megaramps', so it's still realistic. Well played, Skate. If this game is awesome and better on PS3, then it's gonna force me to buy one I think.

I'm still very hopeful and excited for this game. Plus, it can't fail... MARK GONZALES!!!!. THPS overlooked the greatest street skater of our time so they have failed at skate games in my opinion. And that also means they'll have Krooked decks & products in the game, which means these old gonz Vision reissues will be available, which is awesome!!!!

I must have this. What's the word on the PS3 version? Is it releasing at the same time as the x360?

A while back I posted this thread with some potential Skate scoops, especially regarding story and what skaters were involved.

I'm not too shy to admit that I keep Dave Carnie's Whalecock blog on my RSS feed.

Carnie was one-time editor of Big Brother, the excellent but now defunct skateboarding magazine created by Jeff Tremaine (Jackass) and published by Larry Flynt (Tips and Tricks, some other magazines).

I think Carnie may have inadvertantly scooped some info regarding the game in this blog post. He mentions that he helped write the game and mentions some of the pro-skaters that are involved: Danny Way, Mark Gonzales, Colin McKay, Chris Haslam, Pat Duffy, Jerry Hsu.

Some pics from a shoot for the game.

Rob and Big as gay bikers?

I've always posited that the new THPS games didn't suck because they had a retarded story, but because their retarded story sucked. Perhaps Carnie will be able to show them how its done?

Arguably this is a form of in-game advertising for what will potentially be a big selling game. Skateboarding in America is bigger than baseball now.
EA obviously feels that these companies are guests in their game, that the game will reach a lot of people and sell a lot of product at once.

I don't think the game will work without the co-operation of EA and the brands though. If EA coughed up a little dough the companies could put together some quality material and make it a decent reward in the game.

Thoughts on this please. Should EA pay or is it simply a glamourised form of in game advertising? What would Tiger Woods say?

edit. nobody? oh well, should've gone for a controversial title like EA Skate doomed.
This was posted in a thread but it sunk. Thought I'd post here.

I'm psyched for this after burning out on Tony Hawk. Tried Project 8 but it didn't grab me, now I hear that Gonz is in it, even better.

Seeing those Gonz photos takes me back, wild stuff. Ray Barbee in this would be awesome, super technical fluid street skating like the 'Incredible Rubber Boys' segment at the start of Public Domain. Good times.

Yeah, how damn good is that intro!!! And the song! Ray Barbee would be an awesome addition, agreed. As would Neil Blender, Christian Hosoi, Chris Miller, Lance Mountain... Very stoked Pat Duffy is in it!

Hell yeah!!! Nowwww, as you witness the extrodinary exploits of the incrrredible rubber boys... Steve Saiz, Eric Sanderson, Rrrrrrray Barbie and CHET! Thomas!!

And the first time I saw Pat Duffy's part in Questionable... Was the first time I ever heard Primus, and the first time i'd ever seen anyone demolish rails like that... And the rain section! Shit, that's like 16 years ago!!!!

Anyway... Good times...

It's all about the controls. From what we've heard, everything you see in that video is done with only the two analog sticks (and probably a shoulder button or two). There are no 2 billion-point combos that last for minutes on end, it's all about the smooth simple tricks and lines you see in actual skate videos. It looks really really good... But again, Homecourt and Icon are pretty big red flags

That's what I liked about Tony Hawk. The insane combos. This game just sounds...boring. I'll pass.

Questionable changed my life... Plan B - R.I.P.

I met Rodney Mullen at Slam City Jam a few years ago, such a nice guy. Steve Olson signed an autograph for me that said "Steve Olson, God Bless".

I can't wait to play this game, I hope so bad it's next gen Thrasher Skate and Destroy.

Nice. The controls make total sense. Good to see someone actually thought about the controls to make it more of an organic experience for players who have actually skated before. Hope the PS3's Sixaxis can be used to this effect as well, if so, that'll be the version I buy.

This is really starting to excite me. I can't believe I'm this psyched for an EA skateboarding game.

the soundtrack listing reads like a complete rip-off from tony hawks project 8. *thumbs down* EA TRAX suxx!

It's not sarcasm, I think they're feeling the heat. I really haven't been interested in TH games since the 2nd one and this is pretty much the first skateboarding game since then that's gotten my attention.

i am right behind you on that feeling, i think the last TH game i bought was the 3rd. i have tried getting into the latter ones but just can't.

i am so anxious if this actually feels more like real skating.

would be all kinds of greatness if you could just meet friends online and stand there and watch them take a run on a half pipe or bowl or whatever then take a go yourself and not HAVE TO go do missions against each other. capturing the feel of just going to a skatepark with some buddies and having free roam to do whatever would be a huge selling point for me.

This is what I always dreamed of the Tony Hawk games doing, but the animation & action is so stupidly ridiculous, there'd be no fun in it anyway. I'm hoping you can stand on a platform or off to the side and do just that. And if the trick system is a bit more skill based, it'd be cool sessioning a rail or a quarterpipe and trying to outtrick your friends in a realistic manner. That would be the perfect online experience for me. Even a 'mode' that was like a trick attack, but much more organic.

August can't come soon enough.

Even if it's not good, it'd be great to scare the THPS team to make a better product in response.

I used to dream about a 'sim mode' in THPS, so hopefully this will get them to get their shit together.

The Skate trick system has me excited
