New? Sonic Wii Movie

Does anyone remember when Sonic was a platformer and not a racing game on legs?

Not to say this won't be fun or anything...

I don't know I see platforms, and I see jumping...looks like a platformer to me. Who is he racing against?

Fate.

Destiny.

Time.

One of the above.

lets all boycott this one so they never pull what they did with the PS3/360 version again :p
Wouldn't that end up producing the total opposite effe.... OH. That was obviously the point, you must want to continue hating Sonic so it will hopefully die, never mind.

That shit looks good, definitely a ton better than the 360/PS3 abomination. I want to see some more variation in levels, though. There's a big Arabian/past theme in this it seems.

Anyone know WHO is doing the music?

I wish it was Hideki Naganuma but probably not.

From the video I'd assume it's that guy, you know, that penniless bum who scrapes cats against a washboard in the back alley. What awesome beats.

I played through S3+K earlier.

It hurts my heart just how good that game is.

And the music, goddamn how I miss Genny Sonic music.

By racing game, I mean that things blur by at crazy speeds and you pretty much just have to move forward and jump on things and rarely need to slow down to get by.

Try running through Sonic 1 or 2 the whole way. You end up dead.

A little bit of precise platforming, like the early games, to go with the speedy insanity would be kind of nice, is all I'm saying.

Well it sounds like Riders and Tomonori Sawada, Kenichi Tokoi and Fumie Kumatani did that soundtrack

Let's not get crazy here.

Well how do you know there isn't variety in the speed? Think back to almost every Sonic commercial in the history of Sega -- they all show him running at full-speed, performing the craziest stunts in the game.

Play it first, then pass judgement, is all I'm saying.

Wasn't it announced in Famitsu that Sonic's shitty friends will make an appearance in innovative minigames in this game???

Well all I'm saying is it LOOKS to be more of the same, based on the trailer and the recent history of the series. I'm not passing judgement, just pining for the olden days.

But I do hope it's good. Canning the shitty friends is a big first step.

Yeah, but JUST the party games. I don't think you ever have to see them if you don't want to.

Nothing too new - well, to me at least.

I went hands-on with the title last month and I was quite impressed with it. It's obvious that the focus is purely on speed now, and it's shown through how the game is played. The only problem I found was that it is an 'on-rails' platformer - so, you don't control where Sonic goes, but rather when he jumps and in what direction he moves, which caused a few problems.

It's certainly promising after the previous 3D Sonic outings, but I still think it'll have its issues. And the music... yeah, no turning back from the Sonic Adventure days it seems.

I don't get the issue with the "shitty friends". It's not like they're bad characters, just that they don't do a good service when used in actual Sonic gameplay (largely due to Sonic Team incompetance). If Tails, Knuckles and Amy were to be the Sonic version of Princess Peach, I'd be fine with that, let them make their appearances. Just leave them out of my gameplay.

The music and stylistic approach is likely the end result of gamers pissing over Mario's stylistic choices for being "too kiddy" and Sega trying to keep their mascot relevant in the changing times. We only got ourselves to blame.

The only major issue I see with the on-rails thing is that Sonic keeps running into objects after they stop him. He should just stand there until the player backs up to go around or jumps up to go over.

Looking great... branching paths confirmed!

Awful music.

That aside, please, please be good.

after the 360 one which I thought would turn the tide for the sonic games....I have come to the realization that there will never be a good new sonic game.

does naka just not care no more? hell does he even work on the new sonics?

I so wish they would get thier shit together with sonic.

Naka doesn't even work at Sega anymore.

I did have some hopes for this game, but after hiring Sonic Rivals, which is the biggest offender of "hold right, press jump when it tells you" I've ever played, it's dwindled considerably.

Rivals LOOKS nice, but you really don't do a hell of a lot. It just ends up being very boring.

Rivals was also done by Backbone, had shitty friends, lacked good initial impressions Secret Rings did, and it never looked good.

Yep, looks like I thought it would - Sonic in 3D done properly.

This is Sonic in 2D if you shifted the world into 3D. One straight path to the finish (like olden days) and SPEED SPEED SPEED.

Looks good so far. I like the idea of kind of 'on rails' platforming - it kind of makes it a bit like a 2D platformer.

That's part of why I though Rayman 2 was one of the best 3D platformers - it had such a linear path at times that it really focused the action on the platforming by removing the distraction of a third dimension - I want platforming not adventuring in a huge open field dammit!

I won't hold my breath but would be pleasantly surprised if this turned out good.

I hate this new interactive movie genre

I do too, although since it isn't new and doesn't apply to this game at all I think we're on different wavelengths.

Naka isn't part of Sega's internal studios anymore, so I imagine that he doesn't. Heck, most of the Sonics over the past while have only seen him act in an executive fashion... and judging from the output, he wasn't paying attention very closely. :lol

Good to see the branching paths confirmed in writing, although we suspected as much from little bits in the videos.

We'll still seeing the same bunch of levels though, so just have to wait and see if the other levels introduce stuff like quickfire platforming and high/low routes to the mix, to give the title the variety it needs.

Still hopeful though! Which is a first for a new 3D Sonic game.

Well there are the parts where you sidle against the wall.

If they are going to try and put rap or something like that in the game get Del on this shit. He would love to do it I'm sure
