I think it looks great. And my current feeling is that this is just what was needed.

This could bring the franchise back into mainstream popularity...

For every legacy fan that feels offended there are probably two or three people who abandoned the tv-show and the movies who are sitting there eyebrows raised and feel as though they want to see more.

yeah, it was a bad quality link. My bad

Nah, it was fine and I thank you for the link--but that young Kirk shit is retarded. Amazingly retarded--like how the hell did anyone think that would be good? levels of incredulity.

My only real beef aside from that: the cast is entirely too young and too pretty. Completely unconvincing. Kirk and Spock fighting on the deck?? A little bit of titty? What the hell. Battle scenes looked great though.

I *guess* this is supposed to tell us how it all began but I'd much rather have had 'em established with a more gruff/seasoned cast. And I'm not even a huge Trekkie. But I see this trailer and keep thinking Will Wheaton is gonna make a cameo somehow.

Heh, I kind of figured that's what you meant after I posted. No problem anyway. And yeah, I agree the kid part should have been cut out.

It's Capt. Kirk---TO THE EXTREME!

Eh, I though the trailer was cheesy as hell. I guess everyone else in the audience with me did too, because the only reaction is got was a few laughs and giggles when the words "Star Trek" came up at the end.

isn't that the typical response to anything Star Trek related though? I kid

and :lol @ bob_arctor

"The Extreme, the Rebel!"

BTW that isn't the only scene of kid kirk. He is raised by his uncle who is a drunk because his father died before he was born (He was on the USS Kelvin with Pike). So I am guessing there will be a scene with the drunk uncle since they cast the role.

All those years watching smooth ass James T. Kirk mackin' the alien ladies and I never gave a damn how the hell he was raised. *sigh*

Ah well, I'll still be there Day 1.

This whole movie needs to be "cut out."

No, just every part that doesn't directly involve flying in a spaceship, away missions, or fighting aliens. Considering what that video chose to focus on, I have a feeling that means most of the movie needs to be cut.

Apparently now Kirk and Spock are like the chosen ones of the universe. Such fucking bullshit. They might as well have had Michael Bay handle this movie. Kirk is a dude. He is one of many starship captains, and he is fairly kickass, but he is only the focus of the show "by chance." He is not Frodo, Neo, or a fucking JRPG character. Get this shit out of here.

What? This movie seems like a bunch of hormonal teenagers flying around in space, not about exploring it.

Sorry, that's what I meant. I will clean up that sentence, but suffice to say I think "most of the movie" is what needs to be cut, sadly.

I like this response.

I'm somewhat a fan of Trek, but I agree it's time to go a different direction with it. I really like what I saw there.

If anything, it's going to be a feast for the eyes.

For every one of you I assume there will be one of me. I liked the original series and TNG, but haven't enjoyed Trek for some time since then. This, however, is nothing that I liked about those shows.

Yeah, even though it looks awful to me, I'm going to watch it in the theater. Nothing can possibly stop me. I love Trek too much. And if it pulls in new viewers, I guess that's good too.

So yeah, I can't blame them for taking this direction for the moneys. Oh well.

I'm in the same situation as my Transformers-loving friend who thought the movie was an abomination, but saw it in the theater anyway. If your childhood is going to get raped so publicly, I guess you can't help but watch it.

Why do people still think actor's in their late 20's and early 30's are teenagers?

Did people call Zachary Quinto a teenager in Heroes? Karl Urban a teenager in Lord of the Rings?...etc

The movie totally goes away from what Star Trek has been for the last few years.

Which is a damned good thing...

DAY 1

I think people are getting hung up on the clean and colorful look of it. But that trailer was DAMN amazing. I feel like the franchise is getting rebooted like Batman was. AMAZING.

Because they sometimes play high school students, and the people bitching in this thread only see other human beings on screen, not counting their moms.
Stacy Dash was still playing a high school student at 32. :lol I'm almost 33 and I look younger than anyone on this crew.

It wasn't amazing in the least bit. If you like overly done, and have a lot of senseless action in it, then yeah, it guess it's "amazing."

not even in the least bit? you didn't think it was cool seeing the enterprise under construction? that was cool.

or that quick shot of Spock getting beamed down? that shot looked good.

See, I'm not saying the trailer is proof that the movie will be good. jut that it was a pretty good trailer with some impressive scenes.

If you can't recognize even little bits of fun and excitement in that trailer then I'm concerned that your overriding hate for the project is blinding you to see what most other people can.

Why do you keep posting in this thread? You are a cool guy but it seems all you do is this:

Someone: "Woah, that trailer was awesome."
Dax: "No it wasn't, it looked horrible. It will be a terrible movie."

Repeated about 50 times over the last few pages. Why do you keep telling people who think it looks great that they are wrong? We KNOW you don't like it. So why tell every single person who likes the trailer how wrong they are? Do you see how petty you seem?

Most people in this thread are pumped. Why keep trying to bring everyone down with you? It seems like a waste of time and you just seem bitter instead.

All you do is keep repeating yourself one way or another constantly whenever there is the hint of praise for this film, which judging by all the replies other than your own, is nearly everyone. Dax your a awesome fellow poligaffer but you have resorted to being a troll in this thread, all you do is offer "NO IT SUCKS" to every single post of impressions of the trailer.

So it seems that a lot of people who only had a passing interest in Star Trek are interested in this movie, and the Trekkies......are being Trekkies.

There are a good number of trekkies in here willing to give the film a chance, most of them. Dax is just being the loudest. Dax PLEASE if you can't stop just leave star trek threads alone. All you do is troll them now, it isn't at all offering any sort of discussion. Come on, man.

It is no better than if someone went into a TNG thread and to every post went "LOL STAR TREK IS FOR NERDS. LOL YOU GUYS ARE LOSERS." to every single post.

I doubt anyone here would disagree that you are being quite an over the top troll in all star trek threads recently. And I say this as someone who thinks you are one of the cooler gaffers here.

we get it

I know we are supposed to discuss these things but how many times do you really need to say it?

Go watch some Deep Space Nine or something...

Yeah, file me under the willing to give it a chance crowd. It's a new Star Trek, the battle scenes looked great and the beam-me-up scenes should be dope (I wonder how much fan service will be put in actually). Plus JJ Abrams made Alias so I can never discount him entirely.

But young Kirk is awful and the chosen one crap is lame. Also, Zoe Seldana is fine as hell but she's lacking the original's backside. :D Spock getting all worked up by Kirk doesn't seem to make sense either. *shrug*

Also I gotta say I LOVED the giant monster shot. I can't wait to see what that scene is and the context of it. It gets so boring to have 99.9% of the aliens on Trek be humans with slightly different foreheads. A monster alien who wants to eat people, classic sci-fi stuff is really nice to see for once in Trek.

The crew always beams down and sees humanoid people with some sort of social problem needing to be fixed. But beaming down and having to deal with giant fucking monsters wanting to kill you? Awesome.

You need a little bit of both, but don't be maligning the bumpy headed: Klingon-centric episodes and films didn't exactly skimp on the action.

The movie still has Romulans (and going by all the Klingon extras on the imdb page) and Klingons, no worries.

I just realized, I wonder if the Klingon's will have bumpy foreheads or not due to the time period. I bet they will since that is the image the public has of them.

Just saw the trailer.

Every single moment with Kid Kirk should be burned, because it is terrible. After that? Quite badass.

I frigging love the music. Quinto as Spock looks awesome.

I'm hyped and will be on this first day.

Um, what? I only saw the trailer until the *last* page. What are you talking about? Oh, and that was the *only* post I quoted saying that he is wrong about it. Go look over the thread and see for yourself. Talk about a gross over-exaggeration.

You say that like it's an insult.

Edit: I'll definitely be seeing this movie. I <3 Star Trek too much not to, but I just gotta prepare myself for a lot of cringe-worthy moments.

Just watched the trailer. To be honest it's cut so MTV style it's hard for me to really inform any impression yea or nay. They are definitely trying to up the "hip" quotient it appears but who knows how that will actually plot out in the real film.

I just meant there is plenty of ST as we knew it, around.

Yeah it's going in a completely different direction, that is harder for some than others I realize but I suggest at least giving it a shot.

I was the same way when I saw the direction the Bond franchise was going with Casino Royale, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit in the end.

Besides like I said we have tons of shows and movies that are pre reboot.

JayDubya said:
Put simply, that marketing wasn't for us.
Paramount knows every single Trekkie will be there no matter what, Dax's claim he'll go despite hating the movie more than anyone in this thread proves that lol. There is no need to market at people who like Trek, they'll be there day one even without a penny spent on marketing.

Yep. :( Who knows, maybe I'll like it, and that would be great, but from what I have seen, it's going to suck hard.

Okay.

Pretty much. I assume the real movie obviously won't be that frenetic which is the impression the trailer gives off.
Abrams has directed a decent amount of action, he has never been a quick cutter/shakey cam/etc type of guy.
