NEW Starcraft 2 Battle Report - Protoss vs Terran

I'm trying to wrap my head around all the series and tournaments.

Ok, there's MSL, OSL (more prestigious for some reason?), and WCG, but what are the other ones?

Everything is acronyms, including many player names and team names so it can be confusing to newbies.

MSL and OSL are single leagues run by different networks. So it's every starcraft player for himself. World Cyber Games is like these, but done on an international scale. I think the finals are in China this year. There's also Proleague, which is the team vs team league, and there are also several minor tournaments that crop up here and there, like the STX Masters mentioned above.

My strategy:
-Turtle like a bitch
-Tech to Carriers/Battlecruisers
-Amass a giant Fleet
-Send everywhere
:lol

Sounds like Terran vs. Protoss on Katrina last year, or at least until the wunderkid Flash came along with his double armory build.

Some fun games sort of like your strategy:

From last year's GOMTV Invitational (sucks that all the teams pulled out of the GOM TV tournament and there apparently will be no Season 4.)

Hopefully there will be an English commentary of BoxeR vs. Killer up sometime this week. That game had me grinning from end to end last night.

It was a baffling eureka moment.
friggin fantastic

I don't envy whoever has to balance Starcraft 2. You have to have the highest balance possible without eliminating player growth. Figuring out when something needs to be addressed immediately and when something needs to be given time to cook.

I wish CoH had a little more time to cook :\

His reaction to Tossgirl is amazing.
"He's gotta get those hydras...and... ughaghhhghhg"

Also hilarious is the girl who was so shocked that she seems to have vomited in her mouth, and at one point (I think after he kills that vulture) you can see one of his teammates being completely surprised.:lol

I don't understand why they have coaches. Coaches for a team of RTS players? I mean, do they practice strategy with them? Do they make them do exercises to improve mouse-clicking speed?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYthCrf2CM0 (first video Hazaro linked me to) is cool but why are there no subtitles for most of part 3? =\

Also, having to read commentary while trying to look at what's happening on-screen is kind of annoying, especially when it's as fast-paced as a Starcraft game.
Because the translator passed out from the awesome.

Anyone who likes watching pro SC needs to watch this game though. The commentary is just so amazing and much more informative than what we get :[

People shouldn't be scared to play online if they aren't good. There are going to be tons of people who are on the same level as you are. Besides, you'll learn the more you play and you will get better really quickly.

Also with the new battle.nets tiered ladder system, competition should be a lot more even, at least once you get enough matches to be properly ranked.

No matter how crappy you are, it will match you with people who are equivalent skill level.

a girl that hot as a pro gamer? shiiieet.
I was looking at some older pics of her and that Hyuking series is definitely the hottest she has looked so far, imo. Looks like a different person from before though so who knows what happened.

I was just about to say, "Just finished watching. Are... are there more of these on the Internet?"

Sure enough... there are. Thanks =)

I remember someone did Korean subtitles for Bisu vs. Zero through youtube's subtitle feature. It looks like the account is gone.

Edit: Whoa, I forgot how killer Zero was with his mutalisks. I think that was the best ZvP muta micro I've ever seen in a game. The control, tactics, and decision making were just perfect.

He's doing really well lately. It ain't natural.

An above average SC player practices around 10 hours a day. So yeah, the coach gives training routines and exercises for the player to perform.

So I've been watching some of these videos of matches (starting with the Hyuk series) and it's inspired me to give Starcraft a try for the first time. Only problem is it seems pretty expensive for such an old game, especially in a genre I don't typically play. Does anyone know somewhere I can get the game quite cheap?

boxer is boss, seriously. Those commentators were questioning him. He looks like one of those quiet geniuses in animes :lol

I always felt that Flash fit the bill more due his youth. He's a student by day and pro-gaming child savant at night. It's something out an an anime. He went from that 'cheesy guy' to the #1 Terran player in the pro-gaming scene. In particular, his OSL win over Stork was cold-blooded.

I can't even begin to imagine the number-crunching and decision making that goes on in his head during a game:

You can a digital copy of the game for $15 USD from Blizzard's official store.

But we all know Flash is actually a robot. Watch his latest matches in the MST round 5 if you haven't seen them already. The most cold-blooded terran macro monster ever. He played two perfect games as if they were nothing. His opponents had zero chance of winning pretty much the whole time.

just watched the Bacchus OSL finals, wow. Reminscent of GSP's last title defence in the UFC (if you follow that). Stork is the best protoss player right now? Just looked bad.

After watching a bunch of videos in the past week, I have to say that I'm doubly excited for SCII because there seems to be much more variation so hopefully KeSPA will adopt that. I'm assuming that Blizzard will do everything in their power to make sure SCII succeeds in Korea. Honestly, the pro league videos are entertaining, but it's all VERY similar stuff every time. I'm just hoping for more variation in builds and strategies with the new units and buildings, and please put those videos in HD.

That's tossgirl? Doesn't look like her usual self.
It's not. It's the host of I Love Star, or something like that. Can't remember her name. She's not technically a pro-gamer, but she's played against pros. She also had a match against tossgirl that Cholera commented on a while back.

Oh, link please!

at some point I just gotta realize that I'll never ever play online with this game and then question if its worth it for the single player at full price. *gah*

you'd be surprised at how many people suck at starcraft and still want to play. a big goal of blizzard's seems to be to create a bridge between the noobs and the pros. from what they've said in interviews, i'd say they've got people like you and me taken care of very nicely.

I'm pretty sure I got the Starcraft Battle Chest for $10 several years ago. It should still be on sale for that price somewhere.

I just watched the Savior v Silver MSL finals matches. I guess my hope with SCII is that there will be much more variety in the ZvZ matches than the sterilie muta battles or ling ling lings over and over again, even though I don't really like using Zerg...

is that Tossgirl?

That's Ga-in Son, a vocalist for a Korean girl group. She's also famous for having her breast groped and pantyhose torn in South Korea's most sexually explicit music video.

Apparently, she part of an elaborate collaboration between pop stars from various girl groups and Samsung for a big ad campaign. Since Korea takes their music videos very, very seriously, she worked with the Samsung Starcraft team for her short video.

She apparently lost the ace match in the video. It's probably because she had danceoffs instead of, you know, practice sessions. Oh, and half her vision is blocked because half her damn hair is in her face.

At least her presence explains why Samsung Khan is performing horribly in proleague.

That is actually one 's Cholera's most watched videos.

I just felt awful when they did a closeup of Stork's mother when her son was about to lose the third set. At least, he pulled off an amazing OSL Gold win (and all-killed SKT1 to boot). It's a shame that he isn't doing as well now. Well, none of Samsung Khan's aces have performed well recently.

I was so upset over it that I actually supported Luxury against Flash in their legendary OSL match. It showed just how creative Luxury could be and how much more Flash needed to learn. Funny that they are on the same team now.

I'm having fun with Starcraft since I start playing, but I'm having trouble knowing when to build what. What's a good website for learning more about build order and other things?

Those pics cannot be the same person. Unless there's some strange aspect ratio squishing, the nose and chin are very different, for one.
