New Steam Client on the way?

SteamU? Steam on the WiiU? Steam University?

For those participating in Steam Client betas, make sure you updated and you can find these in the "clientui" folder in your Steam folder.

If you ask me, it probably stands for Steam Universe, which would fit into all the directions they are going in. Comics also makes a bit of sense now that I think of it

All those XBOX games means one thing:
The U is for UWP.

Steam UWP client, Valve + Microsoft partnership.

That is an interesting thought. Would not be pleased with that considering I'd want to be able to mess around with Steam and what it interacts with rather than what Valve / MS dictate

People handing money to Valve hand over fist and Valve being content not to fix what they do not perceive as broke.

For people confused about Forza and Halo on the games list:

You can add any .exe to the Steam library. Here's Forza in my current library.

When you establish yourself as a platform that doesn't really do customer service, doesn't make games and doesn't update often, effectively people stop expecting as much. That's their game.

It just so happens almost everyone else is worse, which means they can get away with that.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a Steam user who believes that Steam isn't updated often enough. Updated in a way that's to their liking? Well, sure, I'll grant you that. In general, though? While some long-requested features are still conspicuously and annoyingly absent (e.g. local chat logs), updates to the beta client are released almost daily and new features/settings/etc. somewhat regularly. The only stale element of the client's development is the UI, which, aside from some small adjustments to bring it in line with the design of the store itself, is now almost seven years old.

I hope so!

But also please if you're gonna update the web store completely re-do the garbage garbage garbage garbage garbage garbage garbage mobile app

because it's garbage
The confusion comes from FM5 and Halo 5 (not Forge) being only on Xbox One.
Could it just be Apex and Forge?

That's not what people are confused on. Forza 5 and Halo 5 guardians are not on PC (Forge isn't the full game)

Those images are obviously placeholders though, made by some designer ar Valve, to show how it'd look like. It's possible that an eventual UI update won't ever look like that. The question is how Valve let those files go through while updating the beta client, as those things usually stay "inside".

I'm surprised that people can find "This is a mockup" confusing.
This is not a image to take this seriously. The list of games is duplicated, they are not in alphabetical order, and they don't adhere to the letters next to them. They also slammed a picture of Big Boss on top of a DOTA page. I could go on.
Mockups are interesting, but people are here fishing for birds.

They're more confused about those two being Xbox exclusives.

Wuups, yeah strange indeed. I guess you can link your Xbox account with Steam then? Doesn't make much sense having Forza 5 on there.

Guys these entries are probably for mockup purposes internally. Also notice that the name of Mortal Kombat X is "Mortal Combat X". I wouldn't get too excited.

This. Are people really confused that mockups aren't based on real programs? A lot of mockups for programs and websites have wrong stuff because the designer was just adding random things when they were filling content.

I could make a mockup of a new Xbox UI with Mario and Zelda listed, and I'm sure it would throw people off.
I'm pretty sure those images aren't supposed to be for the users, but for internal use only. Hence you needing to find those files in your Steam folder while having the beta client.

Even though it is a mockup it's still weird that they would go out of their way to add games that aren't available on their platform

It's not really weird. They're just using the names and images for banners. If you're a web designer making something to show why would you make absolutely sure the games are on that platform? It's just extra, useless work.

It isn't hard to find at all:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\ClientUI\Resource\Placeholder

Seems like the usual Valve "leaks" where they just want to hear peoples thoughts and feedback. They are probably a little further ahead internally - or not knowing Valve haha

Kinda looks like some of the Dota 2 UI changes. I don't think the current client absolutely needs a change but if it runs a bit better I'll take it.

It's just a mockup that was probably intended for internal uses only. The UX guy just had some fun with his wishlist.

I'd say that there's the possibility of the games being in the registry if it weren't for Mortal Combat X, haha.

All I want is the ability to adjust font sizes without editing a text file and a more stable Big Picture Mode that also supports 4K.

Come to think of it, wouldn't a rename to Steam U(niverse?) likely be their shift to infrastructure + hosting different stores?

I'm pretty sure that was the intended endgame a while back?
