New Steam Client on the way?

An interesting point - the username might fit in with what they were doing before with "Littlefoot", "Bigfoot" and now "Lethal Foot". IIRC, Littlefoot was their efforts towards mobile and Bigfoot was the lounge oriented stuff of machines link etc.

I'd wager that's just a username. 35 hours of The Division is a fair amount.
 
I would definitely accept it. I don't even have an absurd amount of games on my account but even I think it needs improvement on the UI front.
 
Initial reaction is that it looks awful. Mostly since I get the impressions that it put's equal emphasis on music, comics and what not, as it does on games. And Steam is games for me.

And I'm gonna be really annoyed if the mess up the categories/tag system.

But I hope that I have the wrong impression.

I'm guessing that clicking on the "All recently played" tab shed no info on the Halo 5, Forza situation. :(
Can't wait to see what comes of this though, and the "Universal" moniker certainly sounds like it could be used multi platform for certain (Valve only or perhaps cross buy" titles.

Whatever changes they make to the desktop client, I hope it doesn't make trade-offs in functionality for appearance. I do think the client could use an upgrade, but I don't think it's as bad as some people perpetuate. If there is one thing you can say about it, is that it's a very PC-oriented interface. And I think it should remain that way. The last thing I want is some metro-like nonsense.
 
i have zero issues with the current client.

if there is a new one it better not fuck things up a la skype, spotify, etc.
 
I was wondering how long Valve will take before starting to take Movies etc. more serious. It makes a lot of sense for them.
 
Looks awesommmmmeeee.
Steams desktop UI has felt pretty old/outdated for a long time, definitely welcome something like this!
 
If they make a completely new client and the recent big Dota 2 updates (Reborn, 7.00) are any indication, compared to the current Steam iteration you're probably going to be missing some features when it launches. Also, it might be HTML/CSS/Javascript based, given that the new Dota 2 UI is made like that IIRC. (A desktop app and a game obviously use very different technologies, but there's definitely a trend towards web technologies in desktop apps, which I personally don't love)

Users of addons that reskin websites do this all the time.

I don't care if your customizations will be broken by design changes. Stop complaining that you can't hold the rest of the users back.
 
If this came from any other place, I would laugh and yell "fake"

Shadow of Mordor isn't just called "Shadow of Mordor" on Steam, it's "Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor" and that's 100% a Steam only game. This feels more like a Mock-Up than a real thing

Edit: Also "Metro: Redux" isn't a real thing either. It's either Metro 2033: Redux or Metro Last Light: Redux
 
As long it supports touch scrolling, it is fine. Try finding the scroll bar using your Surface, 9 out of 10 times it ends up resizing the client... :|
 
I don't know, it looks cool, but even if those pictures are mock-ups, having games like Halo 5 there is too weird for me.

I'm going to assume it's fake, that way I'm pleasantly surprised or it's business as usual.
 
That old client needs a whole new design, yeah. But that's fake, look at that gaming list... Halo 5? lmao

Myabe one day in the future, but not right now, not like that, and definitely not on Steam before UWP timed exclusivity.

It's definitely mockup, file name is/was "Placement_Guide.png"
 
I don't get how hang up people are getting on some of the game names. It's a mockup. It's a minor miracle that there's no lipsum in there at all.

The images came directly from a Steam Beta Client update.. It's a mockup
 
If this happens, I hope it bucks the trend of "modern" application redesigns almost invariably losing functionality compared to previous versions.

I'm pretty damn happy with the current Steam client functionality. and I wouldn't want to lose any of it for a dubious aesthetic improvement.

It seems like this Steam Universal motif has legs since everything they've been doing has been alluding to it.

If you look at the mockup, there's the Apps, Comics, Games, TV, Movies, and Music tabs, 'Universal entertainment.' Then you look at what they are doing with controller support and controller configurator (Native Xbox One, Native Xbox 360, Native PS4, Steam controller, complete 3rd party d-input support, and the ability to completely configure them all however you'd like) it supports 'Universal controllers', and I also believe as per the mockups that it may be possible that Steam will make a decent attempt to be a Universal app/game launcher. Perhaps you'll be able to sign into your UWP/Origin/Uplay accounts and easily have your games automatically added to the new client... again, 'Universal launcher'.

I know I'm reaching with that last point, and for now it's wishful thinking, but it would be nice if that were the case.

First thing I noticed. And the Microsoft games. Hard to believe but if true then I'm wondering if it's streaming or media store

This is my fear as well. Every client that's got a "modern" upgrade lately seems to make some functionality sacrifice under the banner of ease of use or looking prettier. Spotify for example is still missing features removed from the last client refresh which was a while ago now.
