New Super Mario Bros. 2 3DS is now playable at E3 : first gameplay footage inside!

Alright, lets call it right here. I'm going to go ahead and say NSMBU will be the superior game. NSMB2 feels like the first one with a gold gimmick while NSMBU feels like the Wii one with more SMW influences and more original looking levels.

I look at it similarly but differently. It seems they decided to make the 3DS one focus more on score attack-esque play while the Wii U one focuses on social gaming and additional SMW influences. I like it since I was afraid we were looking at 2 samey NSMB games within months of each other but it appears that might not be the case.

yea the score attackish Coin Rush mode sounds like a really cool idea. The only thing I'm worried about is that it's going to depend on StreetPass to get that competitive swapping of scores and I honestly don't know if my piddling 1 StreetPass/week or fewer will make it worthwhile.

Complete opposite to me.

NSMB2 actually HAS something that differentiates it from the previous games.

NSMBU looks like an expansion pack with nicer backgrounds.

Of course I already have a 3DS so I'm going to get NSMB2. I don't feel like I need 2 NSMB games in one year so I'll probably wait for a 3D Mario game before picking up a Wii U.

I've gotten 5 streetpasses and I've had a 3DS since launch so I understand that. Hopefully, NSMB2 will integrate with the 3DS side of Miiverse when it is released. I'm sure that will be some time after August, 2012 but it's something. Or they could have it's own little Miiverse like system for that.

Dude, NSMBU brings back a world map like SMW had, that alone makes it the superior game.

I never cared about getting coins in Mario games. Can't believe they are designing a game centered around that concept.

I had a friend who thought NSMB Wii wasn't worth full price just because it didn't have a coin counter. I'm being serious
I guess Nintendo heard and made a game just for him.

I hope one of the NSMB games sucks. I don't care which one, but one of them has to take a fall. I'm not going to put up with a repeat of the endless SMB3/SMW bickering.

i'm guessing it'll be the handheld one just by virtue of being unable to put as much stuff on the screen. people might like the coin attack stuff better, but the platforming will probably be worse.

I don't think the coin thing is such a bad idea necessarily, but why didn't they bother to actually make it count in a more important way? Coin Rush mode sounds lame as hell.

Why not have a coin counter that goes higher than 100, to 100.000? And then have the coins either unlock something - special levels, suits, characters - or make them relevant in the main single player game in *some* way? Or make them count at the end of the game or at the end of every world. And make the player lose 20 coins every time he dies. I don't know, just *anything* new and surprising. It's no fun just getting to 100, hearing the 1up sound and then seeing the counter reset again, over and over.

Literally just looks like the Wii game on a portable system. I am so psyched for NSMBU but wow, this is laziness on a whole new level. The assets are the EXACT same from the original version. Wow.

So while in coin rush, if you die its game over? Has to be a point with so many coins. Just like with Mario 3Dland, they stole raccoon/tanooki leaves + Peach.

I'd make the same call at this point, but I'm concerned that it won't be enough. People on GAF think it's cute to claim wrong opinions just for contrariness' sake, so I'd like it to be as clear as possible which side is trolling.

I'm not saying you can't like NSMB 2 better than NSMB U, but saying so ought to be worth at least a temp ban.

So the Koopalings are back in NSMB2 it seems. I saw a screen shot of Mario and Luigi fighting Roy. :) I hope they're still in U though.

I'm really curious about this coin rush stuff. It seems to be taking the SMB3 World 7 castle idea and running with it. Should be nice to get a new Mario game that actually tries to make score and coins more relevant again.

Unfortunately, I'm one of the people who hates how NSMB and NSMBW feel, so I'm a little worried that I won't be able to properly enjoy NSMB2 (or even NSMBU) if it ends up being good. =\

Looks kind of like the Super Guide suit from 3D Land.

Cant afford new designs or soundtracks for this title - the game is a satire and pure profit from Nintendos point of view.
