New Super Mario Bros U News

I wish there was a Bowser Mode where the player with the Gamepad is tasked with trying to murder all of the players onscreen with the blocks. I think that'd be really fun. Kinda dark, though.

who cares.

lmao, I'm sure you can make a meta game of your own and do that yourself without a specific game mode to go to.

It looks pretty good once you see it live.
I however can't get over the fact that they once again went back to the old music, wtf is this?

Yeah, based on what we've heard so far, the music stinks... again. I wonder if they used recycled music like NSMB 2 did from NSMB Wii.

I want to believe hearing that crappy ghost house theme again in the starry night stage was just placeholder music for now.
I mean I don't even dislike the NSMB music much (crazy I know) but the Ghost House theme is just so bland.

I cant get over the fact that it still looks like a Wii game.
What you really want to say is: it looks like another new super mario bros game. And you would be right. It's a line of mario games that shares the same sort of feel and art direction. It does not look like a Wii game however. Unless you ar blind or a troll.

Seems to recycled music in every stage yet again?!

What the f...?

Well we already know that there's new overworld and athletic themes based off the new main theme so hopefully when the full game comes out the same new treatment will be given to the Ghost House and Castle stages.
As of right now though all the demos seem to reuse the NSMBwii/2 themes for those stages.

I'd be lying if I said the omission of DS's minigames didn't disappoint me. Bob-omb Blast was immense.

I'd love to play that on Wii U, but if I could, quite honestly I'd be very scared of having a Wii U gamepad touchscreen meet the same demise that my good old DS lite met. Those mini games took hours of my life...

It's mostly not recycled music; the main theme is new and most of the tracks are spins on that. Too bad about the ghost house theme though. I don't hate it but I'm a little bored with it to be honest. I hope the Castle theme has been refreshed.

Sprawling World Map? World and Stage names? SECRET EXITS!!!!!!

Why didn't you just call this New Super Mario World, Nintendo?

...still hate the music, though.

Much like in New Super Mario Bros Wii, Yoshi is limited to the stage you find him in

It's from a banned site, but I think that it took the news from Gamexplain.

- Baby Yoshis also periodically appear in set places on the World Map
- find one and heÂ’ll follow you into any level where you can then use him
- keep taking him with you from level to level as long as you donÂ’t die or lose him somehow
But this works only with baby yoshi. The green, normal yoshi is still dedicated to specific levels.
You can see that in the preview:

I'm paying pretty close attention to the kinds of interactions that the gamepad player can have with enemies in the game. Hopefully the interactions are diverse enough such that one can, say, 'micro' a goomba back a couple steps and them push it forward onto a player that attempted to jump on it :P Or I could tap a winged koopa and have it drop on a player, etc...

The recycled music is actually quite tragic. It seems as though there is always a catch with Nintendo. I actually didn't mind the "New" series music that much, but a better Ghost House theme and the omission of vocals isn't too much to ask.

I was kinda Lukewarm toward NSMBWU because I hadn't played the Wii installment (fearing it just wouldn't be much fun after the disappointing NSMB DS, and it was strictly a multiplayer game), and here on vacation with family, and FINALLY playing it, I'm seeing how wrong I was. Not only is it fun with Multiplayer but I'm itching to eventually do a single player run.

The one thing I hate though, coming from Rayman Origins, is how easy it is to impede each other and how you have to be REALLY careful not to trip each other up. Yeah I know it's fun to to mess people up, but for ones actually trying to beat the game, it can be an exercise in frustration (especially for my little brother, he can be a little testy).

But in any case, NOW, I'm really hyped for the Wii U title!

- Yoshi can drop power-ups after eating enough fruit
- Baby Yoshis do not grow in size after eating enemies
- Screen pixelates when you enter the Soda Jungle
- Multiple hidden flagpole exits
- Koopalings will offer up new battles instead of recycled fights
- Camera pulls back fairly far in multiplayer

Amazing.

Seriously.^ New Super Mario World even sounds nice. Much nicer than New Super Mario Brothers U.

Lucky for me, I havent really played much of the NSMB series, so the music is (somewhat) new to me.

This sounds really good. I enjoyed the IGN details on this the most. A lot of these concepts seem welcome, the Nabbit, coin editor, map and challenges all sound like what I want in a Mario game.

those videos look great, but I can't believe they're still reusing music. :|

THe GameExplain videos all appear to have one audio track playing over whatever the actual background music is.

I'm still waiting for any confirmation that there is new vs. reused music, and to what degree. All the official previews have used the new theme, if I am correct.

Click on the IGN thread and the first link to the article and videos, much of the music is the same.

If all the music (bar main theme + remixes) is literally the same and it's not placeholder, then I will be so disappointed in Nintendo. No excuses for not making almost completely new music. >:[

This would awesome. But, instead of blocks, you should be able to trigger fireballs coming from the right of the screen, fireballs from lava, maybe falling volcano rocks, and stuff more in line with what Bowser does.
