New Super Mario Brothers NA boxart

It's like, I dunno... releaseing The New Adventures of Superman - Again!
Well, it's not like season 2 became "The Continuing Adventures of Superman", or ST:TNG became "Star Trek: Not Really the Next Generation since it's the Same as Last Year".

Threads like these almost bring me closer to tears. I love how the greatest company in the world is fighting back.

Nintendo you never left, you've been sleeping for a while, thats all.

Congratulations, you just won the most incoherent post of the day award

I think he should die regardless for even making the suggestion that he agrees that a 2d Mario Platformer looks unenchanting. I mean seriously, how motherfucking pessimistic can you get?

mario has become a parody of himself, tho: the mickey mouse of videogames, if you will.

i mean, the point is this: the art direction of this game is unispired, the title (if it sticks) is uninspired, the play mechanics (from what has been revealed) appear uninspired...you cant just throw mario in there and proclaim the game a masterpiece.

now, if this game looked even half as cool as that fake GBA mario video that was floating around a year or so ago, we may have something to be excited about...

For crissake, it's called NEW Super Mario Bros. because the world doesn't revolve around you ... there are people, especailly a whole generation of kids, who did not grow up with Mario 1/2/3/World -- naming it NSMB avoids confusion and gets the point across.

Jeebus. :lol

Some of you guys are so whiny, you make a teenage girl look tame by comparision.

Super Mario Universe if I remember right.

This was one of the very first games announced for the DS... right there along with "Super Mario 64 X4" or whatever they were calling it. My bet is that it was a code name, that they were never going to actually call it New Super Mario Bros.

Just like the Revolution.

A code name.

Only they aren't code names anymore.

What does this all mean?

I hope they keep the name "Revolution" because I doubt they'll be able to come up with a better sounding one.

And :lol at the guy who thinks some stupid fanmade Mario fake would end up better than this game.

Why are people so freaking retarded in here. Who the fuck cares what the game is called? Are you people serious?

The game will rule and people will buy it. And you whinning bitches as always will shut the hell up as soon as the reviews start showing.

:)

Says the man with the Mario avatar.

Seriously though, you can't really say the game will rule when it's not out yet.

This game is being overseen by Tekashi Tezuka.

Who's never done a Mario game that dissapointed.

And it's been in development for quite a long time too, with bold comments from the team such as 'Best Mario Bros game'.

:lol @ thread

170 replies on boxart only, GAF will totally assplode when the previews and sales charts with New SMB arrive... only Nintendo I swear!

Hey, it does. Go back and play SMB-3/W/YI, or any of the Super Mario Advance editions to see what I mean. I'm really glad they're leaving out voices, but it'd've been better with sprites too.

Well, at least the game gets a worldmap with multiple routes from what I've heard. That in itself is a fair reason to get hyped. Same for the co-op play.

This game needs more Yoshi.
I'm so sad he's gettin' the tech demo shit only (universal gravitation, touch&go).

Yoshi will surely be in this game, sounds like they are packing it with stuff.

Except they aren't. In Nintendo Power they said pretty much everything from the Super Mario Bros series will make an appearance, so Yoshi would not be showing up (he started in World).

Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land

...so maybe they should've gone with

Super Mario Land 4: (insert subtitle)

Serious question: was it called Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land in Japan or only Wario Land (or Super Mario: Wario Land) ?

There's nothing wrong with the name. As has been pointed out, it's the name of the series, the New Series of Super Mario Bros games if you like. It makes perfect sense to me.

How can anyone say that box art sucks? Do I really need to dig up Megaman, Bubble Bobble Revolution, Phalanx Pac-Man for the Atari 400/800 or Rival Turf?

I didn't think so.

The name is fine, the little action scene isn't exciting, though it displays fairly well, the kind of action you'll be seeing in the game. The title logo itself is brilliant.

That's really all I have to say about this box.

. . .

Mario USA forever.

Truth.

But they didn't call it '2' either.

... not that I'm saying they'll call New Super Mario Bros a "2" (it'll probably be some lame subtitle), I just still think its filly.

I really like the logo. It has this future-retro 80's style to it - nice and a lot better then the original logo.

The title is "ok", but I do think nintendo should try to do some serious thinking concerning the mario (platformers) brand - as it is starting to get confusing.

The boxart is nice enough, and a lot better then this one

This could simply have been "Super Mario World 3".
The "new" is really shitty sounding and looking and whatever fuck sucks beyond my imagination.
With SMW3 this implies it's following the traditional route of Super Mario World, recalls the old fans too and doesn't sound retarded.
Also, number 3 is famous in Mario games as for Super Mario Bros 3 or course. It wouldn't hurt the game is mistaken for that either you see.
Really Nintendo, you have no idea how to name your god damned biggest game. Wow.

And here I thought they were calling it New Super Mario Bros for a while, now. Isn't it what the game is generally known as? Why would they change it to another title, at this point?

Wyzdom said:
Yes.

Anyone else look at that boxart and think it's just a remake of the first SMB and not a totally new game? That's what I'd think if I went into a store and didn't know any better.

I guess this is why they have to print instructions on shampoo bottles.

I like the old "New" logo better. Box art looks like a quickie photoshop, but I don't really care. Gimme gimme gimme the game.

Is anyone else annoyed that the Super Mushroom is rising out of a block that still has a question mark on it?

NES: Super Mario BROS
SNES: Super Mario WORLD
GB: Super Mario LAND
GBA: Super Mario ADVANCE - though this series doesn't count

So, since its on a new system, it should have a new tag.

I vote for Super Mario TWINS

They look the same!

I would say to them "you want ice cream cone?" both of them say yes

I need to thank you for this.

Except that this series is totally distinct from the World series.

Shit boxart
Shit name
Shit screenshots

I hope this game is shit so all the N-bots have to spend months defending it.
Although if it's good I'll get it for my DS.
