New Tekken 7 Character - Shaheen from Saudi Arabia

I would not equal that with human rights problems in Saudi Arabia.

Anyways, I apologize if I have offended anyone. My joke was in poor taste.

Why not?

Racial profiling in America is a systematic problem that is supported by the government. America also supports prisons like Guantanamo Bay where prisoners have no rights and are tortured (contrary to U.S. obligations under the War Crimes Act of 1996).

That is very much a human rights issue.

I am American and I don't have to agree with American government policies to love America. And I most certainly will not be profiling all Americans as racists (especially not a video game character of all things) based on the governments actions.

You know what you said was wrong and it was a terrible joke if that's what you were getting at.

اي والله علونا بزافينا هذول، احلف لك انها مهي عربية

I hope it's ok to speak in other languages on gaf.
It's زافنة.

Zafina had a very stereotypical design, apparently all female Arabs have bare mid-riffs and more often than not look like exotic dancers :/
My favorite ironic moment is when such designs got me in trouble as a kid in conservative Arabia lol.

didn't realize there are many Arabs in neogaf

We need an Arab GAF community (unless we already have one?).

Are there certain stereotypes at Martial Art shows? Aren't there a lot of countries representing their own culture with particular outfits? It's not necessarily viewed as that because it's depicting multiple cultures. Tekken would have everyone (sometimes they are) in a particular outfit at all times.

I'd say we've lost a lot of that in gaming and society period.

When someone from Tekken like Paul or Jin come out and they're wearing their leather outfits they aren't depicting their own Martial Art. When Law, Hwoarang, Xiaoyu, and Eddy wear their martial art uniforms everything seems fine.

Now if someone from a certain culture dresses like they would in their own culture (Shaheen) it's a stereotype. I see another culture with his involvement inside the tournament. Martial Arts are heavily based on where they originate from, but that isn't new news for everyone.

We can't enjoy another culture because there's a possibility that there will be racism and stereotypes? If that's the case then what's new? Example A person doing typical Type A stuff? If there wasn't an awareness of different cultures we'd all be worse than we are. I love multicultural perspectives, but I'm more of a universal person.

What kind of person makes a joke by calling someone a misogynist?

That's like calling someone a rapist and and then taking it back saying it was a joke.

Are you seriously saying USA's human right violations puts it on the same level as countries like Saudi Arabia or North Korea?

I'm not going to defend the USA, but your comparison is ridiculous.

It's a pathetic attenpt at backpedaling. Anyway, I'm excited to hear the voice actor, hope they get an actual Saudi instead of a Morrocan/Iraqi VA, like every other game.

Are you seriously comparing North Korea to Saudi Arabia? is Fox News your only source of culture?

Damn, I thought Gaf was above this crap.

They still have Lars speaking Japanese even though he's Swedish.

Lars is Heihachi's bastard son, was a Tekken Force officer and according to Tekkenpedia he's also the biological half-brother of Kazuya Mishima, adopted brother of Lee Chaolan, the grandson of Jinpachi Mishima and the half-uncle of Jin Kazama. I'd say he's a special case.

Someone is probably going to say Zafina soon and Harada has said that she speaks English to hide her identity.

Libyan reporting in. Loving the fact that Arabs are being represented in games.

السلام عليكم

Nice try, but I'm not American (and I've worked in various Middle East embassies, including a short stay in Riyadh).

Both are totalitarian regimes with blatant disregard for human rights. North Korea might be worse in some aspects, like access to information, but Saudi is worse in others (especially women's rights).

Now I'm curious about what makes you think that's an outrageous comparison.

I wasn't comparing the two. It would be absurd to do so.

Anyway, I'm trying not to be involved in idiotic discussions like this but it's hard to do so when people post their idiotic thoughts.

It's idiotic bringing politics into this, but excusing Saudi Arabia when that happens is even more stupid.

As a Saudi living in Saudi I think you're absolutely delusional.

Wow, strong argument right there.

If it was such an outrageous comparison, you would have been able to easily shoot it down instead of having to resort to name calling.

Where was I excusing Saudi Arabia? Point exactly where?

You're the stupid one here lol.

Didn't anybody teach you not to insult people when arguing civilly?

Siba finally gets his shot!

If you're looking to argue PM me. I come here to read about and discuss video games, please do the same.

Most threads that involve Saudi Arabia descend into a nice patronising chat about politics.

Even gaming threads aren't immune. Character looks dope.

clearly a loan word from Arabic then. Nice one guys.
It's what happens when countries are so close to each other. Arabic has a TON of words taken from Persian, turki, and even French and English (due to colonization). In fact I don't know if the origin of the word Shaheen really is Arabic.

All this Saudi talk made me realize that I prolly never met a saudi guy in my life.

I guess they're only in big cities like London and Paris?

I studied in a Swiss village called Bulle. No, we aren't only in big cities, but I suppose you need to know where to look :P

Pass. You should argue with Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch et al.

Really hypocritical of you when you're the one who started the insulting.

Anyway, not pursuing a discussion with you any further. You are more than likely some regular members alt anyway looking to troll.

I didn't call you stupid, please learn how to read.

Oh yeah, the good old alt account trolling by being interested on human rights issues.

Yeah no doubt, I'm just guessing it is.

Did you already forget Ferguson? Or Sandy Hook?

America's up there, man. The fact it's there at all is kinda bad, just like SA and NK

Anyway I don't wanna derail this; dude's design looks pretty cool. He'd actually fit in with the OG Street Fighter cast (I'm surprised SF doesn't have a decent ME fighter yet. Hakan doesn't count).

Perhaps you should take up that fight in a "Saudi Arabia politics are awesome and should never change" thread instead of a "Here's a new character that happens to be from Saudia Arabia" thread.
