New Tekken Tag Tournament 2 screens

Wow, this definitely look better than Tekken 6. Day one. Hopefully, we will see it at home soon because I am in the mood for a new 3D fighter.

My jaw definitely isn't dropping from these screens.
What bump mapping? On the fighters? There wasn't any. They used ridiculous models for the characters IIRC. Like 10,000 polys apiece.

Character-packed games with tons of choice and variety are way too enticing. Even if this is bad, I will love it. Is there any word on the music? Specifically, is there a lot of it?

This pretty much sums up my feelings on this game. Can't wait to play it.

Wasn't there supposed to be a Tekken Vs Street Fighter game? What happened to that?

Long ways off. According to Aris, Micheal Murray told him almost 6-7 months ago that TekkenXSF will be based off the next Tekken (now TTT2). So at least we can confirm that TTT2 will have a tag mode :)

Give me a 1080P Tekken please. My biggest complaint about 6 was the 720p jagged mess.
I thought you could add AA to the game by disabling some crap in the options?

Yeah. T6 had even worse picture quality with motion blur on. something like 585p, and the PS3 version didn't have 720p at all.

Really hard to look at coming from pristine DR

i know they talked about it on the xbox live about it coming to the 360 and it being out around summer of 2011 in US and Europe. it was on we sent u a massage.

When I previewed this/visited the team last year I was able to see how much of a leap this was from TEKKEN 6.

It may not look like it from the screens/vids. But each character model was remade from the ground up for TTT2. There are a TON of details that aren't captured but stuff like (lol) hair, veins, sweat, etc are much more noticeable when you see it with your own eyes. Especially in real time 60FPS.

I can see that even on those tiny pics. GAF's just being GAF...

Looking good, hopefully the PS3 release has better image quality than Tekken 6. I just went back to the Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection PS3 release and much prefer the overall look of that game. Everything was just so much more crisp compared to Tekken 6, I find myself preferring the crisp but lower polygon character model and backgrounds (guessing this was because Tekken 6 is not native 720p. Yes, I did try all the filtering options in 6 (sharper, etc.).

So this will have a regular Arcade mode for unlocking characters? The main reason I didn't get Tekken 6 was because you had to play that awful looking third person fighting mode.

Should we expect another trailer soon?

This is an arcade game. Nothing is known about a console port at this time.

There's definitely going to be a big showing Late February/Early March @ Japan's Arcade Expo.

The only thing scenario campaign unlocks is the comic book hit effects. All characters were unlocked from the very beginning and the endings were all available by playing ghost mode, arcade mode, etc.

If you do enjoy Tekken's mechanics, Scenario campaign should be the last reason for you to ignore it.

Yeah you can see that in the pictures...and Tekken 6 is after all basically a game from 2007.

BTW is TTT2 still sub-HD or are you unable to tell such things? :P

576p T6 on PS3 still managed to look cleaner than 720p T6 on 360.

Graphics aren't exactly blowing me away, but I suppose that's to be expected. If the online play and interface is smooth and they do justice to my mains this is a definite get.

Also, why is Jinpachi there??..... I FUCKING hate that guy.

Forgive me, I didn't play the first Tekken Tag, is the gameplay much different from the mainline games? Kind of how the Vs. games are pared down versions of the SF games. I've been learning Tekken 6 and it feels like a job with the massive movelist for each character. It's like a huge memory test.

I don't understand how people say Tekken is casual friendly. Maybe for button mashers? The game is so dense with over 40+ characters and different button combinations. I don't even know if I can learn half the stuff I need to know for just one character.

IMO the arcade version of T6 looked significantly better than the console releases. I'm not worried about how TTT2 will look in arcades. Was there any mention of the console ports looking as good as the arcade release this time around?

Also, given the fact that TTT2 will almost certainly need a dedicated cabinet, the only way I'm going to get to play it before the console release is if I make the drive to Cali. The only reason we got T6BR was because the arcade owner picked up a used board and put it in one of our T5DR machines. Doubt that's going to happen this time around... :(

TTT compared to Tekken 3 was nothing like say... 3rd Strike compared to MvC2. MvC2 is way over the top with a lot of stuff going on at once. TTT has more going on than Tekken 3, but not to the extremes you see in Marvel.

The juggles are fairly similar, you just need to add in a tag. In TTT you'd generally tag after your initial launch, so it was really: Launcher > Tag > Perform normal Tekken juggle. TTT2 does look to be a little different than that formula, but I wouldn't expect the gameplay to see a drastic change from T6. It will still feel very much like Tekken, but I think most people will find it more fun than T6.

I think generally casuals will only pick a few character they like (from the character design or the fighting style) and go from there. also, while the movelist are huge, most of the time the command input make sense, you know the 4 main button is just left and right punch and kick. it makes memorizing the movelist easier. once you find a launcher you can experiment on juggle, casuals who don't look for guides may not produce the most damagin combination of juggle, but even a 2 or 3 hit juggle is fun and make you feel satisfied.

I'm definitely a casual, maybe a bit more for certain character that I care enough to look for guides. but I can pick any character and without looki for guides and just trying button combination, I can find a couple decent moves to play with and have fun, provided I was playing with another casual of course.

Looks great but I'm one of those losers who is going to have to wait for a console version to play. Pain. Ah well.

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as you. The arcades near me still have Tekken 4. I really would love to play this when it is released, but there are no convenient options available for me. I wonder how many characters this one is going to have. Also, I hear a lot of people say the arcade version of Tekken 6 looked much better than the home conversions. Besides, resolution, how is that possible?

Much more colorful than T6's drabness. Hit sparks get on my nerves, but if they are indeed toning them down it's all good. The character models look great to me and Yoshi has an awesome non-cluttered-mess of an outfit for the first time since T4. I cannot wait for AOU and hope the arcades get a year at max before we get our console version (can't Namco just do a region locked version for us after about six months?!)...

Honestly, this is the first time in the series's history that there are more than 2 people on the screen at the same time (eFf Scenario Campaign)... Just looks like absolute HYPE! Too bad I'll only have access after around 2 years assuming there won't be any balance patches.

Weren't there tag attacks in the first TTT?

You are going to be mad, but here's why.

They decided to base the PS3 port off the X360 port so that both ports would be exactly the same. They were worried that if they made the PS3 version a direct arcade port (like they easily could have), the X360 version would suffer visually in comparison; this would've also made Microsoft unhappy.

So, the arcade hardware (System 357), which is a PS3 inside a different shell, runs the game in flawless 720p while the PS3 version got downgraded to 540p =/

Holy shit, they got it right this time. Best-looking Yoshi since T3 confirmed. Can't wait to see his alt costume.

While this is true, I just want to point out that System 357 T6 Vanilla/BR (and VF5 Vanilla/R/FS Lindbergh) only run @ 1024x768. Which seems to be the standard pseudo-HD that most Japanese devs use nowadays (MGS4 for example also had this res), with the exception of Capcom of course who seems to be able to achieve 1280x720p natively. EDIT: Crystal Tools for SE does native 1280x720p also (on PS3 anyway lol).

Upscaling 1024x768 is pretty decent, mainly because of the greater vertical resolution compared to 720p, and horizontal scaling isn't too shabby either.

That's funny; so they run in 1024x768 and stretch horizontally to 1280x768? The More You Know, etc

But if you notice: they cleverly changed the camera angles so that only 2 characters would be in the screen the entire time.

Skipped tekken 6 (which, come to think of it, is the first time I've skipped a game in the series). I'll be day-1'ing this one though. Looking forward to its release on the consoles.
