New The Evil Within screenshots appear early

It doesn't look too shabby in these bullshots, but Wolfenstein didn't end up using any AA in its retail release, so who knows how it will really end up looking.

I believe it was said that Tango Gameworks was heavily modifying the engine to do what they needed it to do.

Texture quality looked better than before so there's that.

It looks good now, not amazing but still good.

Yeah, middle one is definitely NOPE material.

To be fair it looks like 3 enemies shambling towards the player, two of which have a knife and a tool for weapons. The player character's axe is obviously a difference, but it's not a bad thing to say this strongly echos elements of RE4 (and 5).

So basically because they have tools? Because that's really the only part of it that's specifically RE4 esque.

And the camera angle and the way they are slowly approaching the player (which I am assuming because of their poses). I don't see how this comparison is at all controversial. I'm not arguing it's a ripoff or a rehash or that there's nothing new in the game.

I think it's VERY BIZARRE to claim a small number of slowly approaching enemies surrounding the player is 'RE4 esque' in light of... every other RE game. Maybe that's just me though. Also, that camera angle is hardly specific to RE4. There are loads of moments in the series where you get similar angles. This is clearly not an angle you'll see in gameplay.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Why do so many people seem hesitant?

I think there are two big reasons.

1. The preview event from PAX East. There was a demo shown off (That no one got to play), that according to people who were there seemed boring.

I completely ignored these impressions, as they were no different than a random person on the Internet saying "X" game sucks when they haven't even played it.

2. Some people thought the game was going to be survival horror instead of action horror.

I figured the whole "Reviving survival horror" stuff was PR BS from the start, so I expected a game like RE4, and it's looking quite good IMO.

ugh.. Its idTech? Explains why it looks horrible in most places. I really hope this doesnt become Bethesda's "Standard" Engine. Its horrible and out dated UE3 performs and looks better than it.

Id tech 5 games are 60 fps on all platforms

Yes and no. Doom is aiming at 30 in order to push more visuals. At least that was the mantra when Carmack was around.

Dishonored 2 has been announced as an idTech 5 game, and of course Doom 4 will be using it too. If Prey 2 ever see's the light of day, it will be using idTech 4. I wonder what engine Fallout 4 will be using?

Pretty sure that Dishonored 2 is CryEngine 3.

Looks like grain is toned down and they are using downsampled shots. I like the the visuals more than wolfenstein however, I wonder how well it'll run on pc since they're going for 30fps.

How many UE3 games have been 60fps this and last gen? While idTech5 isn't super great on PC due to its nature of it being built as a console engine to say that UE3 is just automatically better than it isn't factually right imo.

Does anyone actually find the enemy designs frightening?
Looks like something out of a horror movie spoof imo.

Yeah, I kinda have to agree here. Don't really understand the praise those screenshots get ITT.
I mean, they look alright, but it's pretty generic and standard zombie fiction stuff for the most part.

Just me or has the grain/film filter gone?

Anyway, it's certainly looking good. Some really nice and unique character designs. Especially digging the guy with the spike through his eye.

It's just too bad the actual game won't look anywhere near this good.

These are heavily downsampled. The previously shown screenshots shown native resolution with no AA aren't even in the same ballpark.

Which is a shame because it looks so amazing aside from shitty textures here and there.

True on PC, but definitely not on consoles. idTech5 games run really well on consoles.

When you say UE3 I think of Mass Effect, and nope they don't look that great, kinda blocky models and repeating textures.

Really hope this game isn't going to be actionactionactionaction!

I don't want a ton of ammo and 'now you have the shotgun!'

I dont care about the bad previews this has been getting. I have a feeling Mikami will deliver a good game.

Honestly I don't care that some people at the closed doors thing said it looked blah. I'm more excited for this than anything else this summer.

RE4, baby.

Looks iconic but was there any doubt?

yes i realise there was from people who played it but im being optimistic ._.
