New to T-RPG, where should I begin?

It feels like everyone in this thread has forgotten that the Vita is a thing, what with all the talk of finding a PSP to play Tactics Ogre and FF Tactics, and that War of The Lions, Front Mission 3, and Tactics Ogre are all available on PSN on Vita so for a lot of the recommendations in here a Vita is your most convenient bet. Hell it's probably the reason why the Vitas one of my favorite platforms ever; convenience of access to classics on the go.
Anecdotally, it's also a great way to play the rest of the classic FF's, Breath of Fire 3 and 4, Parasite Eve, Resident Evils 1 through 3, Vagrant Story, Medievil 1 and 2, Xenogears, Personas 1 through 4, Mega man Legends 1 and 2 along with Tron Bonne; I mean basically all the classic titles you need in one place. Just saying, anyone with even a cursory interest in the titles discussed in this thread should probably own a Vita.

Final Fantasy Tactics is the only one I've played but I found it completely engrossing and just challenging enough. Surprised to see people say it's unfair or not beginner-friendly.

I never found it particularly difficult but I've had a couple of friends who hit utterly stuck at various points (and not the ones famous for potentially being bad either).

Don't be too worried. FFT is one of my favorite games of all time, and I'm not a fan of Tactics Ogre.

I got them both on a PSN sale, played 9 hours of Orge and just didn't enjoy it

The fights took forever and I didn't really know what I was doing

I loved the Disgaea games (4 and D2) and those were my introduction to the genre (If you don't count the X-Com reboot anyway)

I'll give FFT a go soon, just I'm worried I'll dislike it as I didn't like Orge

I'm interested in Disgaea, but from watching videos, it just seems it takes an awfully long time to do anything. Is that how it actually is? Is it just really slow paced?

I think we all know about the Vita, no need to list all the games you can think of on it ;)
No need to get a Vita for those either, if you have a PSP (or some other, less legal, means to play those games).

Its got excellent speed options for pretty much everything (text, movement, if animations play, etc).

What's the name the name of that kickstarter game that resembles the ffta games?

You're going to have to be more specific , I'm getting emails from like 4 different SRPG Kickstarters in that style ATM. And I'm sure there's some I missed.
