New Tomb Raider Trailer Today

There are plenty of other things they could have done there to give the characters the proper motivation that aren't seen in every other zombie work, ever.

This is pretty rich coming from a dude with a Gears avi.
The characters live in an environment where threat of infection governs their lives. Of course it's going to be used as a plot device.

On topic i can't wait for TR. Loved the first game.

I just hope that the game offers more variety compared to the snowy environments they have showed so far which are kinda boring.
I'd like the series to turn back to the Tomb Raider 2 feeling =)

Why would you is it because you don't have an Xbox? They've confirmed its timed and SE pushed the reboot to every platform posdible in the end.

It's clearly going to end up on at least PC if not Playstation too.

By the time it comes out I'll probably have even less interest. Plus I don't have a much time to game as I used to, so I can't just play everything any more.

TR 2013's story didn't kill me, it was typical video game back drop, but I did hope they would finish her awkward unsure phase then and there since she does gain more confidence throughout. Considering this game takes place after several comics worth of narrative I hope they don't dwell too much on her mental state or self doubts or whatever.

Sure but she's not unconfident and unsure when you're actually playing the game though. She's butchering entire armies with relative ease like a hardened vet.

I haven't yet played the 2013 game. But I need to know whether it's logical that she can climb fucking ice mountains now? My understanding is that she used to be a student of archeology, stranded on an island, became a killer, and now she can practically do every extreme sport ever?

How does that make sense?

It is a video game.

lol

Fiction must be hard for you.

You shouldn't play the 2013 game then, for story anyways. If that doesn't make much sense to you, then the story in game and Lara's arc will make even less sense.

Some cool stuff found here.

NICE FIND! Thanks for sharing! The plot thickens >=D . sunken frozen city come to me!

Kitezh-grad legend places it in Europe though (here to be precise) and nowhere near close to any kind of mountains or caves in Siberia.

...The story is going to be awful again, isn't it?

It is. I was really looking forward to seeing Uncharted 4 and Rise of the Tombraider go head to head, in terms of how they moved the genre forward.

In my opinion Naughty Dog is a better developer, yet Crystal Dynamics delivered a game that was on the same ballpark than ND's games, yet uneven in it's quality (awful story and characters). Cross gen really limits the scope of what Crystal Dynamics can aim towards.

A shit story is something TR2013 and Uncharted have in common.

Really looking forward to this, was really surprised how much i loved playing the rebooted Tomb Raider.

Not so much.

Uncharted's overal story might be hokey but it's intentionally so as it riffs on classic action films and almost celebrates the ridiculousness of the genre.

Tomb Raider takes itself too seriously, has absolutely no humour. Dingy and dull.

The characters in uncharted are also vey well written, charming, fun.

TR has awful characters and writing in general.

No contest here.

Uncharted's plots/stories are servicable at best (like TR) and basically serve to get you from one set piece to the next. Which is just fine for these kinds of games.

I find the characters and voice-acting are superior to Tomb Raider 2013, though. None of the games finished all that well in the story department, though. I have high hopes for UC4 after TLoU's awesome ending.

Even if so, I personally hate the overall story of the Uncharted trilogy. I think the plot lines and most of the characters are shallow and inconsistent, but occasionally fun.

True about Tomb Raider's lack of humor. They need humor if they're going to roll around such silly premises, even though I liked TR2013. Hope they can inject some humor in this coming one, which seems ridiculously cliche from what we can see.

But opinions are opinions. I just can't help but shit on Uncharted.

i hope the in game character model for lara more closely matches the art.

tr and tr:de looked nothing like the awesome concept art for lara :\

If anything, I bet it will move even more closer to her voice actresses face.

The story in the Uncharted games is nothing to write home about, but the characters and dialogues exceed everything present in TR2013.

There is a reason why Amy Hennig was such a hot comodity after she left Naughty Dog and actually landed the writting lead for a huge Star Wars game. She is great at her job.

close personal friends with Indiana Jones

But isn't it good they're hyping (I don't think they are really hyping, just using it as marketing tool) that thing what last entry was most lacking. It hopefully means more and better puzzles.

No, FUCK them. Tombs should be in there and that should go without saying. They should confirm tombs with as little fanfare and as much shame as possible, and then hype new innovative features.

Let's face it, though. This game will probably be a third-person shooter with puzzle/platforming element, instead of a puzzle/platforming game with shooter element.

I really hope we do away with pointless cgi trailers at some point. While they are pretty, they are also just very boring and not exciting anymore. They don't give me anyworthwhile information. I don't see anything about how the gameplay is, what the graphics look like, and often don't even have anything to do with the settings of the actual game.

He's right though.

Every story has been told already. There are only so many situations within a specific scenario that make sense. You could go out of your way to make a convoluted to spin around the cliches, or you could just write your story simply and allow the character interactions to define the quality.

TLoU's story isn't great because it's original, it's great because the characters are very well written and their interactions are compelling.
A cliche is a cliche. Sure it might have been presented well but lets not pretend that it hasnt been a common trope in zombie stories. And there is a huge gap between being a cliche and merely being an unoriginal story element because you believe every story has been told. Has the ending plot points of TLOU been used before? Probably but at least it felt fresh in the confines of the genre in which it exists.

A cliche here and there doesn't change the fact that the characters and witting are brilliant.
