I think the basis of the theories are that the songs leaked on the net are just b-sides and throwaways from previous CDs. I also heard the intro from "Wings for Marie" from a live concert in 2002 so that opening has been around for quite some time. Which doesn't mean they necessarily had the song back then, maybe they had that intro and decided to finally use it in a song.

They wouldn't go around the world promoting a fake album, supposedly the REAL album will hit the stores on May 2nd and everyone will gasp and say "Oh my God they pulled a fast one on us!" Everyone but the enlightened bullshit artists who are spreading the conspiracy about the "decoy" release.

Oh yeah, and Amazon.com doesn't list the track titles yet either.

The bottom line is it's virtually impossible for a band to pull this off unless they plan on not selling their new CD in the stores. They ship a b-sides CD out to the stores and only offer the "real" cd as a download from their website or some shit like that. Once they decide to sell that CD, it has to go through distribution channels, and once it does that it gets leaked. Which is what happened here.

Just goes to show you that you can create a conspiracy theory about ANYTHING and you'll have a ton of people jump on board and want to believe. The beauty with this is, unlike other conspiracy theories that go on for years and years, we only have to wait 10 more days before those guys look like assholes.

i agree... im listening to it now and am on the 4th track and it sounds tight to me... sounds a lot like some of their older stuff from undertow. i myself found lateralus boring and hopes this album shaves some of the fanboys off of the herd.

Unless the members of Tool reacted to the enthusiam of fans to the fake album and decided to postpone the release of the real album until Saturn is approximately 5438072397, the number of inane Tool theories on the Internet at any given time, kilometres from earth.
 
If that shit about taking a year to make a decoy album is actually true I have new found respect for one of the best bands ever. That's just so insane it may be true.

Also, to be a conspiracy theory the "truth" must never be able to be verified. In what, 10-12 days, we will see. So we need to start calling this shit something else, like insane ramblings from over zealous fans. Yeah I know that sounds like a conspiracy theory, but its not IMO.

I work at Barnes and Noble and we normally get the new releases for Tuesday in on the Friday before. So I will know what the hell is up on the 28th. I hope it's a double disc. Or a CD-DVD set.

I doubt it is a double disc. Pricing is already out on this album. Tower Records is taking preorders online for $9.99. Unless of course Tower Records is in on the hoax. Regardless I will expect you to post here with your findings next Friday.
 
We should know for sure before that, since it comes out in Australia on the 29th.
So, in theory, we should know around the 25th or so when they get to stores.
 
It's so funny that people think this is a decoy or something, now I believe a lot of things but I'm sorry this is just ridiculous. Why won't people accept the new album? It's kicking my ass!

Well, I just want this to be a decoy so I can get more Tool. To be honest, I think it's probably the most insulting thing you could say to the band to call this a decoy.
 
I wish the album was out right now so all of the posers who think it is a decoy would just hate the album and won't be competing with me for tickets this weekend.

No shit. Tool puts their all into this, and within a day most of their fans brush it off as a hoax or fake album.
If I was in Tool I'd say go fuck yourselves.
 
So now that Tool is back together and there's no more APC to slow them down, I think we will be getting new Tool every year or so. Where did I get this, you ask? Right out of my GOD DAMNED ASS.

In all honesty, it probably does bode well for the next Tool album, with the APC news, timewise I mean. I really doubt it'll take ~5 years again for a new album.

I think I read it back in this thread somewhere (?) but if I remember correctly, Maynard all but confirmed that the band was done. I'm really not sure of the details though.
