New Uncharted 3 gameplay footage

personally, in a game where reloading doesn't empty your current clip, auto ammo pickup doesn't bother me. the shooting part of the game will always be the most arcadey and dissonant, you might as well embrace it.

Even if i enjoyed UC2, i'm a bit afraid of how UC3 will turn out.
What was missing in UC2 was unique OMG moments and it was (for me) a bit repetitive in the gameplay.
For comparison, i enjoyed more Heavy rain or GoW3.

What looks promising is that they have an engine already running so they can focus on adding features and polish.

My top wishes for UC3 :
- good scenario and characters. I mean, this is one of Sony top franchises, there are brilliant talent over there in States working for TV shows that could be put to good use. Enough B grade summer blockbuster scenario, i'm 35 and won't be satisfied with something targeted to 12+.
- Memorable bosses and brilliant villains. UC2 helicopter was OK (but MGS already did that 10+ years ago), the tank fine, but nothing to really remember. I have to fear the bosses. Think Hades or Poseidon but in a realistic setting.
- Diversity : I had the impression in UC2 to fight the clone army. I hope ND finds a way to have more diverse enemies. Even try RPG elements like equipments
- Top GoW3 technical prowess which is for now my reference on consoles. I want to see if my ps3 can do more.

And Keep the good : animation, lots of settings, adventure vibe,

Oh, and by the way scrap multiplayer and dedicate the ressources to SP. Completely useless imho.

erm... no you.

-Many of us enjoy the characters and scenarios as they are/were. Not every game has to have a deep and heavy story focus. A simple adventure with shit turning sour is fine enough for me and others I'm sure.
-Sure, the bosses do need to be better but the new villain(s) is a shadowy organization that deals with the occult and uses fear as a weapon. Sounds promising to me.
-Equiping Drake with various items seems too gamey (yeah, i went there). Unless there's a need for a disguise, I say leave dress up out of Uncharted with the exception of scene appropraite attire (if Drake's hanging out casually at a beach, there's no need for him to be wearing his traditional get up for example).
-It's debateable which looks better between GOW3 and UC2. GOW3 does look absolutely amazing but you only visit the same few areas which feel lacking overall. A cave with wooden boxes? Another cave? Rock faces with static images in the background? Even GOW's "chase" scene was so anti-climactic compared to UC2's.

And multiplayer is fantastic, what the hell?

Yeah, that was missing from it :lol Sorry I had to laugh, but come on.

Also, other than MLAA, I think GoW3 hardly even matched UC2 technical prowess in most ways - certainly not in terms of any gameplay interaction of character vs. environment. Many things in it were rendered comparatively simpler to allow for higher framerate.

i'm 35 and won't be satisfied with something targeted to 12+
I seriosuly hope you are not inferring that HR and GoW3 had better writing, characterization or story than UC2, because they are not even close, and I'm saying that as someone who thoroughly enjoyed both games. In fact, as far as that kind of adventuring genre goes there's hardly anything that competes nowadays period, no matter what kind of media.

Apt closure to a posts that's all kinds of wrong.

Hind D heli blowing up building, causing it to fall while you're fighting and sliding with a room full of bad guys dropping in on ropes.

Said helicopter rising out of no where while you traverse across a beam suspended fifty stories above a destroyed city, aiming its missiles right at your face, followed by a chase sequence where you're getting chased by a frickin' helicopter.

A city made of gold crumbling around you while you jump around a falling bridge, fighting off giant dudes with harpoon guns.

Etc.

Is your name Indiana Jones, because boy you must've seen a lot of action in your life.

I wonder how much until a new 'ZOMFG Drake is a cold blooded killer, WTF ND?!' thread.

Developers don't spend the time to maximize the hardware?
Yeah...seems like Naughty Dog has some secret sauce (I.e. Amazing talent....?)

I mean they turn around Uncharted every 2 years and it looks amazing. Better than games with similar development length.

Drake's model in Uncharted 1 looks so bad now lol.

Only if you compare it to the UC2 model. Holds up well compared to almost any other videogame character model in my opinion.

UC1 Drake looks comparable to very recent UE3 people.

Gameplay footage looks fantastic. I think some areas on those videos look better than Uncharted 2 already. The animation is really good and all those small details are great. It really makes the whole thing awesome to look at.

I'm ashamed none of you have posted about this, but the music in the footage is fucking amazing. I can't wait to listen to other tracks. So far, the music does NOT disappoint.

I always thought the faces on the character models in UC1 looked super weird and kind of bad, actually. The UC3 model looks so great.

They look like they were victims of stylistic discordance. It's like the artists couldn't really decide whether they should do more realistic or cartoony, so they ended up with something kind of in between. I still think they're great models though.

Replaying Resi 5, aka the best co-op game this gen, has given me a taste for it.
Hell yes! Such a rare sentence here on GAF.

Sooo..... will this have some sort of co-op?

I think they said no single player co-op, but they'll do something special for the online co-op stuff.

Haven't you played Uncharted 2? The answer is yes.

I wonder if the PS3 having more RAM would've made these games look/run better?
Yes?

The pitiful amount of ram is usually pointed at as the PS3's biggest bottleneck. Console development is all about compromises and working around limitations.

Brofist. Building the game around co-op was one of its greatest downfalls, but also its greatest strength.

It's more like an objective-based horde mode than what i'm really wanting though. I'm after something more story orientated, with actual levels and stuff. Resi 5 style basically - even if it means pasting in Sully/Elena and breaking some continuity along the way.

I think that you'll be getting that based on this description

A new breed of Action Adventure Multiplayer: Competitive and co-op multiplayer return with brand new experiences and massively expanded feature sets. The UNCHARTED universe provides a unique multiplayer experience, for the first time bringing the exciting cinematic elements of the single-player campaign into multiplayer.

A man after my own heart. Good username, too.

We need more juniors like this. You're ok in my book, friend.

The game reminds me of Uncharted 1 and 2.
What a missed opportunity, you should've gone with "this looks exactly like Uncharted 1 and 2. Why does Gameloft get so much hate for their ripoffs and this gets a free pass? Because it's a PS3 exclusive? smh Sony fans."

Not worried, just talking about development priorities for games like this in general.

I've played 20 minutes of the MP in Uncharted 2, and I was angry afterwards because I could've spent that time I wasted in the amazing SP instead. >:(

I'm embarassed to think now about how much I raged about MP when it was first announced. I think I finally settled on 'as long as the SP is at least on par with UC1'. Oh how daft I was being.

yea it is weird since uncharted 2 multiplayer and online co-op were awesome fantastic add-ons. Much much better than bioshock 2 and resident evil 5 multiplayer modes.

Don't hate. U2 MP is amazing.

Multiplayer of Uncharted 2 is one of the most underrated MP's out there.
I can't wait to hear more details regarding Uncharted 3 multiplayer.

Shush you. U2MP is all kinds of awesome.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a single knock on the AK sound and reticule. Doesn't sound punchy enough anymore. Not enough 'oomph' I guess. And it seems that the bullet spread got reduced, if the reticule is to be believed. It doesn't really open up too much after holding down the trigger compared to either of the first two games.

Good lookin' stuff though.

Uncharted 2's multiplayer is very underrated. It really is a lot of fun. Oh well, it's people's loss.

fixed! :D

Seriously, I used to be able to spend more than 6 hours an evening playing the MP, but now I have trouble playing for a few hours once every few weeks even when I'm playing with all of the fantastic GAF guys (even jett! :P). The changes in 1.05 really took the heart and soul out of the game. Not everyone may agree with me, however, I know a lot of our brethren feel the same way.

Can't wait for the U3 beta though!

Is the Brutal Combo back? Looks like a mix between 1 and 2. At least it's not the Uncharted 2 hand to hand. It was so worthless in a battle. Hopefully it's more similar to Uncharted 1 then 2.
