New Yakuza 6 screens and battle system details

■ Full Contact Melee Action

While preserving the characteristics of the Yakuza series, in efforts to create “the world’s best full contact melee action,” the battle system of Yakuza 6 has been completely rebuilt from the basic systems seen in the series thus far. Yakuza 6 promises intuitive controls and exciting melee battles for returning players and new players alike.

Point 1. Action Matching System

A new system built from the ground up aimed at “feeling the hit” of an attack. Just before Kazuma Kiryu’s attack hits an enemy, there will be a natural attack motion and reaction depending on the situation—like the enemy’s stance, the angle of the attack, and its direction. Additionally, both Kazuma Kiryu’s and the enemy’s reactions will change based on the result of the attack—whether it hits the enemy or whether he guards.

Point 2. Figure System

In the realistic streets of Yakuza 6, it’s difficult to avoid battle on complex terrains. Fine movements, such as the way you interact with, not only enemies, but also terrain and objects by the roadside, character movements, and knocked back characters, have been drastically improved, increasing the reality of battle. This is known as the “Figure System.” Additionally, characters, terrain, and objects intermix in order to showcase the effects against dynamic objects, so you can enjoy a large variety of reactions.

Point 3. Various Terrain Layouts and Objects

In the cities of Yakuza 6, there are various elevation differences, including stairs, slopes, and such, and a variety of terrains unlike anything we’ve seen in the series thus far. And the types of objects in these areas have drastically increased. From things that can be used as weapons, like returning bicycles and signs, to objects that exist only to deal damage, the city is filled with objects to liven up the melee action. The city itself is like an action movie set.

■ A Series First: Choose Not to Fight

In Yakuza 6, going from adventure parts to battle parts is “perfectly seamless.” When you’re exploring the red light district and pick a fight with an enemy character, you can transition to battle without losing control of the character. Additionally, since each enemy AI judges their situation and proceeds with battle individually, if you want to prioritize exploration and story progression, you can leave areas where there is a fight. If you manage to escape from enemy characters, you can avoid the battle itself.

Finally !

Getting the last one on PS3 localized was useless for me as I moved on to ps4 :/...

Can't wait for this.
 

Kiryu finally meets Ryo.

Good to see the battle system in the demo was just very early in development, hyped for this game but I'll probably avoid importing, want to fill the full experience in English... so basically buying a few copies of Yakuza 0 to make sure this happens!
 
I was a little sad that they decided to do away with styles but holy shit that sounds and looks amazing!!!

Everyone please buy Yakuza 0. We have to keep this series alive in west.
And Yakuza 0 is an amazing game so it's a win-win situation for anyone who buys is :)

Really though, love the sound of the improvements. Varied terrain sounds. Very interesting.

finishing up yakuza 5 now. will definitely cop 0 at launch and I'm assuming 6 being localized is a foregone conclusion at this point? (how long the wait will be though...that's a different story)

"choose not to fight" has been sorely needed in this series. sick of these wasteman bums running into me all the time.

Really hope he returns. He's young enough to take up the mantle of main hero after Kiryu imo.

Yakuza 6 story spoilers, read at your peril
Akiyama is confirmed to be back, but not playable as Kiryu is the only main character in this game. Screenshots of hobo Akiyama from 6 have surfaced however its not been clarified if that is just a flashback or not. But he will be crossing paths with Kiryu at very least
.

And yeah, I really like Akiyama and after the ending of 5 I want another game which focuses on him more. I also want another game with playable Seijima, he still remains one of my favourite characters in the series.

On Yakuza 6's battle system - I like the sound of what I've read so far. The tech demo felt pretty good, but it was very early and with so much missing from it I couldn't really form an opinion on the game. I liked what I played but it felt very basic. Going on the assumption that much is added to it, and you get to level up loads in the game to improve your main combo strings and moves list (which I've come to expect from the series), I'm sure it'll be awesome as always.

I just want to see a playspot list now to see what mini games are back, and hopefully the arcade is more well equipped (like 5 and 0) and not woeful like Kiwami was (no arcade games bar the Rock/Paper/Scissors arcade machine? That sucked!). Hopefully that'll be part of the TGS blowout coming this month.
 
This is legit gonna be one of the best games of the generation, calling it. Everything Yakuza was meant to be from the beginning gonna be in this game.

Just love this series so much.
 
All of those improvements sound great! Still workin on Y5 as its my first yakuza and I'm 100%ing it as best I can haha.

Off topic real quick how does Yakuza 0 compare?
 
Buying the FUCK out of Yakuza 0 on Day One, gotta make sure this comes over to the states - looks SOOOO HYPE.
