New York GAF: anyone willing to make someone happy?

I'm planning a birthday gift for my friend. She has this thing for New York and I thought it would be great to do something in the spirit of the traveling gnome from Amelie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LuUM4z9l0M), but focused only on NYC and compressed in time.

The plan is to get a small plush bear or dog as the traveler, then have some photos of it taken in front of as many famous NYC landmarks as possible. I would have the pictures printed out and with a letter it would make the first part of the gift. In the meantime, the plush and some New York souvenir (I think a snow globe would be great) would be shipped out to me to Poland.

But to make it happen I would need help of someone who is in New York and GAF is the only place I know where I can look for that someone.

Some points to make:
  • the package would have to be sent at the beginning of next week to make it in time; shipping cost will be quite high so I can't use any express options
  • as stated above, the photos will be printed out, so they would probably need to be taken with a proper camera and not a phone
  • in a perfect scenario the plush would wear a heart-shaped tin badge or patch with her name to make the photos alone much more personal, but I get the feeling it would be really hard to achieve this in time
  • I would pay for the items and shipping using PayPal
  • I'm unable to offer anything but my deepest gratitude for doing this, since it will cost me too much on it's own
I know it's quite a lot of effort to ask for, but if anyone is interested in helping me, please sent me a PM. I'll try to respond as soon as possible. Just remember that I'm in a different timezone and I'm also not sure if I'll be able to visit GAF while being at work.

Any questions and ideas are welcome!

I'm going to bed now, but I'll try to respond to all questions/PMs in the morning.

Thanks and have a good night/day.

Ask her out.

Ask her out.
Hahaha, I should have seen that one coming (and it's a good advice too).

However there's more at play here. Recently some people have made an unexpected and interesting surprise for me. And it felt so fucking great. Ever since I've been thinking about doing something like that myself, so when this idea popped up in my head it just wouldn't leave.

But I'll let GAF to be the judge here.

How about you think of something where you're doing most of the work? It'll probably be more meaningful.

Bah, I was in NYC last weekend and took a bunch of pictures of Yankees Stadium.

Quick question...what are you going to do when she asks where the pictures came from?

No offense OP, but this sounds hilariously awkward. On top of it being tons of work for someone else, you're also demanding a plush bear or dog with a heart, to attach to a letter, when she's not even your girlfriend?

I simply can't imagine any well adjusted female appreciating this without her creep-meter reaching level 10.

Save your money. Take her out for a nice dinner. Be a gentlemen. Just remember - do not bring your fedora.

Does it have to be NYC specifically?
Yeah, she likes NYC for some reason.

That I found someone willing to do this on the internet?

From the responses I can see that people think that it's too much to ask for. Probably right. I knew it would be a long shot, but I regret nothing. LOL.

And about that heart with a name thing. It's not supposed to convey my feelings, but make her know immediately that the photos were taken for her.

Why not just make her a poster or something and get it printed?

That sounds like something you do for your wife/gf. Everybody's different, maybe she would really like it, but you run the risk of it coming across as too over the top if she doesn't feel the same way.

It seems a really cool idea OP, but what if you get just pictures from different places from NY with a small handwritten note. :/

Well that was the most cringe worthy thing I've watched all week, but according to many of the female youtube commentors, some girls are actually flattered by that?? I don't even know anymore...

Here's an easy enough step, you like a girl, show her that vid, if she says she likes it, cut off contact, if she calls it corny you have a winner.

You should do it yourself. Photoshop the stupid bear in front of famous landmarks and print them yourself.

It will be more meaningful if you do the heavy lifting.

Ask her out, do this later once she is your girlfriend - everybody wins. Definitely a nice idea, but potentially a bit much of a gesture for 'just friends'. Good luck with it though.

I'm planning a birthday gift for my friend.

Depends on your friendship, but a better idea might be to get a NYC Gaffer to mail over some souvenirs or this might seem too over-the-top (and therefore creepy).

I know of a few Amélie-gnome inspired projects that have been a lot of run for the people involved. One involved kidnapping a stuffed PacMan. If you get that far, maybe do this for an anniversary present.
