do they exist?

at the end of November around the 20th I think, I will be travelling to NZ and stay until late december around 20th..

I have no friends there and I will be travelling all alone so I am looking for a place with hot chicks,some fun party and nice resturants

the places I been thinking about is auckland, wellington, dunedin and ofcourse I will be staying at 4-5 star hotells so any hotells that are central and good please tell me some central hotels

southisland I will be spending some time on as I will do flyfishing on that one.

any suggestions about where to go are welcome

so NZ gaffers help a brother out
 
Hahaha ok then.

Wellington is cool because it's cramped. It's basically a city surrounded by hills and a harbour, so everything is close together. The city is nice to walk, and you can walk across the whole city easily.

I'm not sure what touristy stuff there is. The national museum is in Wellington, and is pretty amazing.

You will have an amazing time in the south island. All the cities are just cities really. If you have time do the Tongariro Crossing in the middle of the north island, supposed to be pretty special.

I'm in Auckland.

Largest city in NZ - more cosmopolitan than most (apart from Wellington). Built on volcanic field, so lots of 'high' places to see the city from. The main street in the CBD (central business district) is getting an overhaul - it was not much of a place to visit before, trying to be a shopping street, but mostly having trashy NZ souvenirs run by Asians. But Auckland (and Wellington too, I suppose) would be better places to visit if you like the whole clubbing scene (not my bag, so I really can't recommend much). Dunedin is a student city, so I'm sure it has a large party-like atmosphere.

Awesome scenery to be, er, seen in the Sth. Island (and North if you look harder), so be sure to visit those places - it's actually pretty safe to go to the 'touristy' sites, at least in my experience. Unlike some other attractions in places overseas, many of the popular places aren't over-run by tacky tourist features.

I guess it all depends on what you like doing, what you hope to see, and how much time you have.

I will be going to auckland for sure, I found a hotel 4 star and it was just 120 dollars anight so it seems that its cheap in auckland aswell!

I will be in NZ for a month, I will go to south island for flyfishing but then I will probably stay in a tent

I just talked to a friend who has flyfhised trout in NZ, he told me to go to christchurch as there is alot of close rivers to fish for big trouts there...


well I will go ther thats for sure!!

As for hot chicks... You can find the odd diamond in the rough. If by hot chicks you mean 'retard slappers' then yeah, lots of those.

Honestly, pains me to say but NZ is no hot smart chick oasis. I met a guy from the states who had travelled the world and he didnt think much of NZ chicks at all....

My father is right into fly fishing. His friend is a professional fly fishing tour guide in Turangi, near Lake Taupo. He apparently comes very well recommended. I can hook you up if you like.

I have done it a few times, but it's not something I'm right into. I would enjoy it if I did it though. My dad ties his own flies and everything, he loves that shit.

I tie my own flies aswell done that for 14 years and been a flyfisher for 16 years

well christchurch is having a lot of good waters I heard so I will check that place out for sure!!

but will try to travel around and also go on those helicopter flyfishing trips that takes you far out on the mountain near nelson.

auckland is awesome, i like it better than any city in australia. wellington on the other hand is average at best.

i also went to turangi/taupo (my dad is into fishing too) and it was the most boring three days ever. i didn't go to christchurch but i can imagine it would have been great.

yeh auckland sound great.
Man NZ has the best trout fishing in the world and I wont miss that during my trip to NZ.

I've done 'The Crossing'. It is pretty amazing, but it's one of those walks that is SO popular, it is kind of touristy now. It's a practical highway of people these days.

But it's friggin' Mount DOOM.

If you're looking for chicks in Wellington then your best bet would be the nightclub 'Jet'. You'll have no problems getting into based on your hunkiness. I think the numbers are typically 2:1 female:male in there.


Going to Dunedin isn't such a bad idea as it's pretty close to Queenstown (which would probably really hit your party and adventure needs, but is full of tourists if you don't like that interaction) plus you can always go to Lake Wanaka for trout fishing as it's also in the Otago province (which Dunedin is part). That area is probably a little better overall as a package than say Taupo which is still a great place to visit but better with a group of people.


But yeah, I wouldn't give myself too much time in Auckland (no more than a week) as getting around the place isn't that great because of traffic and Wellington is generally held in higher regard as a better city because you can walk everywhere (or maybe just a better city to live in) and the ferry is located there that connects the islands.
Plus you can always take the train from there to Upper Hutt to take in the sites of Boganville or Porirua and imagine you're in Samoa :)

You could get a room at the InterContinental which is pretty much right in the middle of the city all your wants are really no more than a 15min walk away. It's a 5 Star hotel and a room is only about $120-140US a night.

There are some other decent hotels like the James Cook and Novotel.
 
I'm in Christchurch, haven't been around much so I can't recommend anywhere. My family and I moved here from the UK last November. 'Ello other NZ gaffers. *waves*

There's a serious flaw in this plan: it involves going to Jet.

robertsan: I wouldn't spend too much of your time in the cities, they're pretty boring. Check out places like Queenstown, Taupo (trout!), Waitomo, (and the caves there, stay in the hotel, it's pretty sweet), Fox Glacier and the Buried Village in Rotorua.

Christchurch sucks. The National Museum in Wellington might be good for killing some time, but don't expect too much. Napier is a lovely city, as after it was destroyed in an earthquake in 1931, was rebuilt in predominantly art deco style.

I'm gonna disagree with polari, Christchurch is cool.

If you go south, right after you get off the ferry from north to south island it's wine trail country, that stuffs great.

Also, if you go to queenstown (which you should) don't forget wanaka which is about 1 hour drive through the valley and home to 2 great skiing mountains cardrona and treble cone. (I'm not paying attention to seasons)

Taupo is in the middle of the north island and is the biggest (dormant) volcano in the world. Which is filled with water and there are some great hot water spots. It's a really beatiful lake and the whole city is pretty fun, it's kind of the south island of the north island in feel IMO.

I kinda like New Plymouth as well, though I can't explain why, we went out there one night and it was one of those nights were all the girls appeared to be pretty. Plus you can get a look at 'Mt Fuji' on a clear day, as seen in that tom cruise movie about samurai.

Oh shit one more then i'm done

Nelson has the most sunshine hours in the country. Go around there and see farewell spit, it's this big sandy thing that sticks out like an arm as seen in this picture that is too big to link

Summer ay, the coromandel is your friend. it's the wonky bit that sticks out the side of the top of the north.

Check out hot water beach, oh man I have the fondest memories from that place. Me and the lady holidayed up round there with a camper van. Fast forward 2 years and I'm living in europe, I largely blame that holiday.

You probably don't have the time, but if you went to stewart island (the third island) you could be one of the 10 people that's ever been there.

Oh, oh, another idea.

Kapiti island, go there, it's a mofo of a walk to the top but the whole island is one giant sanctuary for endangered birds. It's a big ****ing island with like 4 huts on it.

Interesting to note, Paraparaumu means in maori "Scraps from the earth oven" roughly, cause paraparaumu is where the maoris came ashore, beat up a bunch of other maoris, ate them and then left their bones strewn over the beach.

Now thats rad.

paraparaumu isn't the best tbh, but it's dead across the water from kapiti island, which rocks. Ideally you want to kidnap a hot girl from wellington and then drive north to taupo then on to coramandel. Its a great trip.

or alternatively, since you will likely land in auckland,

1. find auckland woman in 1 night in that laaame city
2. coramandel for 4-5 days of sun and fun
3. taupo for another few
4. wellington

then head to the south island (you can take a car on the boat) and tour the south island. Can't stress enough how nice the south island is, its where the majority of the 'beautiful scenery' as seen in everything pimping our country comes from.

It's kind of an odd question, seeing as most New Zealanders don't use the 4-5 star hotels. IF we travel, the country is so small, we either stay at someone we know's place, or stay briefly in a B&B or motel.

And it's Saturday lunchtime. Only losers are on the internet at Saturday lunchtime.

I couldn't tell you which hotels are great, but SkyCity, part of the SkyTower has a series of hotels right in the heart of the Auckland. Must be expensive, though. Auckland as a city is often looked down upon due to its sprawling nature. There is a concentrated CBD, but suburbian areas spread out quite far from it, making travel to those areas a bit difficult at the worst times. However, it is unlikely you'd really want to visit places like Sth. Auckland and otehr suburbian places. not that they aren't nice, they just don't offer much for visitors.

Most of the hotels in the Auckland CBD would be close enough to walk. Like SkyCity, Langham, Hyatt Regency, Stamford. No idea about prices though.

That's where the parties are likely to be. As for shopping, depends on what you want to buy. If just general stuff, then the CBD will be mostly fine (dining, quick groceries etc.). If you were out to actually buy proper things the myriad malls are better, but are far away from the central city. Keep in mind, far away is a different scale in NZ. Different cities can be ten minutes away.
