the 30gb is the old version, it's got the same software on it but doesn't have the touchpad, and the touchpad is great.

They're physically different.
80GB model is smoother, slightly larger screen.
The navigation "wheel" is also slightly different, touchpad (for the better)

Thanks. 80GB it is then. Now to track this thing down on Ebay.

i had a zune, ill say this the marketplace and overall feature set of the device are great and only getting better. The file support is rock solid and video playback is good too. I just wish there were models that were flash but with a bit bigger screen. I know small and sleek is all cool and everything but after that wears off and people actually learn what they can do ...the lust for more more more begins.

People are going to want sound enhancement like an eq , clear bass, etc etc features you can find on the creative or sony players. I wont even go into the kenwood players because they are music only but wow...they got some sound hardware in those. Some people are going to want a bit more screen real estate because the players actually have room to put movies or tv episodes on them. The small flash drive models have nice playback but could use a bit more space. I know theres the 80gb version...but meh with 8,16,and 32 gb models for flash being common i dunno if i want a hdd model mp3 player.

Other than that the zune is a great device, its only outright horrible shortcoming imo is battery life, my creative and sony last far longer. Heres hoping some hardware update to the line is inc now that the software is getting a refresh/expansion.

1, won't work in the UK
2, won't work in the UK
3, won't work in the UK

...

:(
it does work in the UK, I just signed up for a zunepass today and I managed to buy US points on the internets and already bought an album on the marketplace.

You need a US MS-Passport and somebody in the States to register your account for you though, and some sort of postal address in the states (I used one of a company).

Ah, I should say I do have a US passport and stuff. Mine's registered for Microsoft HQ, to take the piss. Fair points, but yes, it'd be nice without a loophole.

However, the radio stuff probably wouldn't be compatible, I doubt Radio 1 are broadcasting that information not on DAB. Actually, I'd like them to make it DAB compatible when they release it in the UK. Starting to like BBC 6music. Quite I think it's more that it's a hassle for point 2, and uhm, channels, no-one reeaaally cares. Podcasts on the go would be nice though!

DAB support would be brilliant. The FM reception of the Zune leaves a lot to be desired.
Really, it's bad? I honestly enjoy listening to the radio on the way to school, so I'd like to know what you mean by this.

maybe it's just a problem in the UK, but the reception I get is really poor. Only a few channels work and those aren't great either.

It's a shame, not much of a problem since I am mostly using the Zune in my car now (and it's real stereo with a simple audio cable if your radio has audio in btw).

DAB support would be great though, to have access to a proper quality 5 live would be amazing.

DAB is worse than FM in most places.

Those leaked features suck. If they're going to be giving us these weird extraneous features, they better make sure they have support for basic features like Unicode.

Full changelog hasn't leaked. "UNICODE SUPPORT!" does not good back of box advertising make.

When it gets a touch screen, I'm there.

The tactile touchpad + Zune UI is a match made in heaven.

MS needs to partner up with Cowon or iRiver and let them design the Zune branded hardware. People drool over Apple's designs...imagine if Cowon/iRiver hardware was advertised.

:O:O:O

^^

If we're just talking aesthetics, I prefer the look of the 30GB zunes (brown being my fav) over the newer design. I'm not a fan of the trendy silver backing, makes it look cheap imo. It does have a thinner shell and the touchpad though, so in the end I'll always choose form and function over aesthetics.

The back of the new Zune isn't too hot, but I like the front a lot. The old ones look OK from the right angle but they just don't feel as nice to hold, and the buttons look kinda awful.

120 GB: $249.99

80 GB: $229.99 (3)

16 GB: $199.00

8 GB: $149.99

4 GB: $129.99 (3)

Am I correct in thinking this represents a price drop?

:lol at the ebay sellers currently trying to flog 80GB versions for $260.

I've been thinking of selling my 2nd gen iPod Nano and getting a Zune, and news like this is definitely pushing me towards that decision.

Audio streaming from the marketplace! I wonder if that's a 20 second preview, or the entire track?

The update will also be available for all Zune models
how I understood it it's the complete song.

Not sure if that's only available if you're subscribed though

That's if you are a ZunePass subscriber.

For people who aren't a subscriber, it will be the normal 30 second preview I believe.

Also, I cannot wait for this to release. I have a Zune80 that is just ready and waiting :D

Oh, and yeah it will cause a hit on performance, but it will be worth it :D Just be sure to charge it every night, and at work.

Microsoft are doing a good job of making us two dozen Zune owners happy.

:lol Who needs a fancy shmancy press conference, right? All companies should announce updates to thier existing products through an inaudible youtube clip.
