Next Level Games working on a Wii U game...?

They deserve to be given a big IP, there Nintendo titles have all been excellent.

But Retro's already got a good plan for Metroid and good structure. After Other M, we need to guarantee that the next Metroid is what people want, and Metroid Prime IV is the safest way to accomplish this.

The Retro that made the Prime trilogy doesn't really exist anymore though. Most of the key players have jumped ship.

I would love a new Strikers though this is obviously not it. An arcade sports title is the one thing really missing from my Wii U collection.

I hope it's no Luigi's Mansion 2. It's feels surprisingly too soon and the way that game is structured with small individual rooms it's one of the few franchises that I feel works almost the same on handheld or home console.

Seems a waste to put that on console when it works so well on handheld and there are handheld stuff that would be improved going to console.

My wishlist in order of want:

1. Mario Strikers
2. Metroid
3. A different Nintendo IP
4. Punch-Out
5. Luigi's Mansion

But they have the assets, they have basically everything they need for the Retro staff to pick it up. If Next Level Games made a new Metroid game, they would almost definitely do it from a new direction.

I can see it being Punch-Out, and this would please me. But what I want from them more than anything is a new Strikers Charged.

But why fix what's not broken? Retro has Metroid down to a science, it's best not to mess with a winning formula (especially after Other M). Let Next Level Games do that 3DS Metroid game they wanted to make, sure, but the Wii U game should be left to Retro Studios.

Couldn't this exact argument be used to not have given Retro Metroid to start with? Why can't other companies work on the Metroid IP?

Letting other companies work on console Metroids has worked well just as many times as it's failed.

Luigi's Mansion 3 for WiiU with one giant Mansion and the environments directly outside it to explore please. Otherwise I'll take a new Punch-Out!

Imagine Luigi's Mansion 2 or a third entry with the 3DWorld/Captain Toad engine, goddamn!

Cool to hear they are officially on a new project.

Now when will Nintendo officially scoop them up. :P

They don't need to. NLG said they are now exclusively working with Nintendo, and the relationship seems to benefit both parties. No use changing anything.

Next Level X Retro Studios Metroid colab

They are both great studios capable of handling their own game. Why on earth would you want one game rather than two?

You could say that about any company that made a game fifteen years ago. There are still plenty of people there that worked on the Prime Trilogy.

Luigi's Mansion looked incredible visually on the 3DS from the lighting to the animations so the thought of a Wii U game is exciting to me :)

*yawns deeply*

I'd just want an HD version of LM2, to be honest. Captain Toad achieves its visual fidelity in part by cutting out all of the intricate detail that makes the LM series so special.

Personally, I hope it's something they haven't touched before. Not Strikers, not Punch-Out, not Luigi. I think Luigi is the most likely possibility though.

The clean look is a conscious artstyle decision. I'm pretty sure the engine allows for more intricate texture work if need be.

Captain Toad was also made in a year with a small amount of Staff. I'm sure NLG could make an amazing LMWiiU with three years time, a full staff of developers, and the most powerful hardware they've worked on thus far.

Same here. Honestly, I'd like to see them take on something like 1080 or Wave Race, though that's probably a pipe dream.

Now none of the leads are there anymore though.

Eh, the development culture that pumped those games back still exists. The project leaders might be gone but their imidiate subordinates are still there. Plus, nintendo always flies in a very capable supervisor to keep shit going smooth anyway so.

Metroid is in dire straits right now though, we're not in the same place we were when Prime was put in charge of making a 3D Metroid.

We kind of are. Metroid hadn't had a new game in an entire console generation, it was somewhat of a dead franchise, the Metroid Serie's only appearances being the two Smash Bros games that came out between Super and Prime.

Metroid was in the same place F-Zero is right now back, which I think people would agree is a franchise in dire straits. It's actually quite similar to where the Metroid series is right now.

If they are working on a 3DS game, I would love a Punch-Out I can take with me on vacations.

If they are working on a glorious HD Wii U game, then I want Luigi's Mansion 3.

Everything they touch is awesome, so I'm sure I'll be there day 1

I have no doubt that a WiiU Luigi's Mansion would be straight-up one of the best-looking games on the system, if not THE best-looking game on the system. And it'd rival the games on my PS4 (like I contend MK8 already does).

Losing Wi-Fi on the Wii left a Mario Strikers-shaped void in my heart.

Every game I regularly used Wi-Fi for on the Wii has been replaced one way or another by a superior game. Except Strikers.

You know what to do, NLG.

That's not nearly the same situation. People were demanding "a Metroid" back then, and today, people are demanding a Metroid that is as good as Super Metroid or Metroid Prime. Metroid died back then because of inactivity, Metroid is at risk of death because its latest entry is one of the worst video games Nintendo has ever made. That's a huuuge difference, and it's why making a quality followup to Super Metroid is just "nice" while making a quality followup to Other M is necessary.

They're probably working on something
They're working on Alone in The Perfectly Dark Luigi Mansion.

Either that or Alone in The Eternally Dark Luigi Mansion.

IMO, Strikers 3 shouldn't be until the next console. How long do you think it'll take before Nintendo pulls the plug on Wii U online play?

Sounds like Punch-Out!! 2?
Please be Punch-Out!! 2

Gabby Jay having Glass Joe as trainer, in fact, the only thig I would like to be imported from Super Punch-Out!! is the trainer mechanic.
