Next proper Metroid Prime "would likely now be on NX", (implies NX succeeds Wii U?)

Console is dead confirmed, I wont be buying NX, no point on buying a system that has a life of three years less than the competitors.

I'm weary about getting one as well. It would need to have a strong launch and support if they want me to even consider it.

It's pretty safe to assume we're not getting many/any more big/retail Wii U games that aren't already announced, so this isn't surprising. I hope that "if we started right now" is a theoretical and not a "lol we ain't makin' no metroid game" confirming they haven't started.

Well, it's probably a whole lot easier to say that than it is to say "Yeah we did some work on Metroid for the Wii U, but while it was in development we saw which way the winds were blowing and figured we'd better switch things to the NX platform".

Can you imagine how the fanbase would take that? Especially after yesterday.

The petition is crazy I agree, but that's a very small segment of people. When I looked at it it hadn't reached the very small number of signatures it set out to get.

We all wanted a Metroid game since the last good one was Prime 3. Can you blame us for being mad that Nintendo didn't give us that and decided to slap the Metroid name onto something else?

But what else can they do? They are moving everything back for NX, that's more than obvious now. They weren't going to announce any NX games at the conference this year, and they won't waste Metroid Prime on the Wii U. So they made a little Spinoff game to have fun with and tide people over. People going crazy over it having the name metroid, but we don't know much about the game. Maybe Nintendo just sucks at advertising and it has more metroid stuff than we realize, but noone is going to give the game a chance with the hate it's recieving. It was either have this or have nothing, and the fact of how everyone is acting means that we should have just had nothing and not have this game ever release or ever be shown, fill that slot this game would have been shown with another develper story. I'm sure that would have made everyone more happy.

NX handheld - Holiday 2016
NX home - Holiday 2017

Sounds...expected to me?

Going by the NintendOS plan, if well executed, NX, lineup wise, will substitute both Wii U and 3DS next year, while phisically (in terms of the home device) the year after.
That is a good guess.
I am on the idea that NX is code name for two devices that share the same library.
The Wii U's design has hinted that with 3DS games showing up on Wii U eShop.

Glad to hear that. I'm not asking Nintendo to spend excessive amounts of time and resources developing games for people like me. I don't need 10 games per year geared at me to be satisfied. A very high quality Zelda and Metroid would be enough to get me to buy their system. They can focus the rest of their attention to whatever else they feel is more appropriate for the good of the company.

Why didn't they start working on it 5 years ago?

Because Nintendo was reeling from a rather expensive misfire in Other M. Would you jump right onto anything significant for Metroid when retailers are having issues selling copies of the most recent one even at extreme discounts?

It doesn't help that Metroid has long struggled in the sales department, even with the concessions that have been made to make the games more accessible.

Splatoon? Xenoblade X? Starfox? Fatal Frame?

No interest in all of these games? Maybe the E3 was underwhelming but Wii U has a strong lineup still.

The problem here is that people are saying there was barely any new Wii U games because none of them interested them, even through the Wii U has a solid lineup people will dismiss certain titles because they don't like them.

I think one would have to get what he mentioned in Japanese before claiming as such.

Japanese translation is not always clear, terminology is not always 1=1

Cautious stance.

I'm out, Nintendo. Have fun with whatever you do in the future.

NX is just a project/placeholder name, right?

Because if it's not, they, somehow, found a worse console name than Wii U.

Yeah seriously, I still love playing my Nintendo Dolphin and Revolution to this day!

Pretty sad isn't it?

The console has been selling like crap for the longest time. Should Nintendo just keep beating there head into a brick wall and losing money? They tried, they failed, they're moving on

All of the Prime games broke a million copies sold, Other M didn't break a million. Not sure about trilogy. You might be confusing past sales with FF future sales.

You serious? Fatal Frame?

They literally just announced a new Metroid Prime. The entitlement is strong
:p

lol, fair enough.

I mean a true metroid on a home console. I guess other M counts... sorta... nah.

So this confirms Nintendo isn't developing a proper Metroid right now.

Even if it's for NX, it's almost time to start developing a new 2D or 3D Metroid game. And I mean a REAL Metroid, not disasters like the one they presented yesterday.

Blows my mind that people seem to be actually thinking this. Nonsense.

First they were adament it would be a 2015 title, then it wasnt, now they didn't even mention it during E3. With a promise of talking about NX next year.

Wii U is dead, they've clearly accepted this. There's no incentive for them to put it out on Wii U.

Seriously. Where's the love for Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival? Wii U 2015 is gonna be great!

Gotta be honest, this is good news at this point. I have little interest in playing a dated looking (see Star Fox) Wii U Prime with forced, gimmicky gamepad environment scanning.

As do a lot of people, its currently one of the top images on Reddit/Gaming. Nintendo however, had other ideas.
If everyone is doing it, why bother?
The too comment raises a bunch of games that (I assume: I haven't played all of them) copy the 2D style of metroid very well. Indies can tackle 2D, expand metroid more into 3D.

Don't pretend having a scan view on the gamepad at all times wouldn't be amazing. Switching to it was always quite a chore during combat.

Sorry but that is not at all a strong line up. I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I love my Wii U, but you're doing yourself a disservice if you try to defend that lineup.

For a dead console that's a strong line up. Also missing Mario Maker, Yoshi, that Wipeout clone game and SMT.

It doesn't confirm that since they'd use hypothetical language even if it was already in development to avoid confirming that it was in development.

Yup
All major games are pretty much in development for NX
Zelda may still come on WiiU but it will get the TP treatment WiiU and NX
Come on now there was no other reason for them not to show Zelda at E3
They said before NX was announced that the next main Mario game was next gen

CHEAP YET SATISFYING METROID PLAN

1. Look at the many, many Metroidvania indie games that are on Steam and other digital services. Find one that is really impressive - there are quite a few to choose from.

2. Contact the dev, assess their capability and interest, and commission them to make a 2D Metroid for the Wii U / 3DS online store. Supervise as needed.

3. Wait.

4. Show at E3. Everyone is happy to see a new 2D Metroid.

5. Release a good game that will be devoured by fans, praised in reviews, and make a tidy profit. Everyone is happy.

END OF PLAN. REPEAT FOR SEQUELS.

Splatoon? Xenoblade X? Starfox? Fatal Frame?

No interest in all of these games? Maybe the E3 was underwhelming but Wii U has a strong lineup still.

Mario Maker, Zelda, Devil's Third, Mario Tennis, Yoshi's Wooly World, SMT x FE, Skylanders, Yooka Laylee, etc.

The doom and gloom is stupid.

There are tons of Metroidvanias already, why can't NLG try something else that they want. Again it comes back to the fact that if they don't make the exact things you want and keep the series the same as it was, then boycott!

Oh man, Metroid with time mechanics would be amazing. Great extension of Echoes, which is actually my favourite in the trilogy... I think. It's pretty close.

Anyway, this either means Prime is in development for NX and NX is out soonish, or it's not in development and NX will launch like whenever. I think it might be the latter :(

My question is if they launch the NX console in 2016, what will it be? Will it be a PS4 level console, or in between PS4 and PS5, or will they go for PS5 way too early? A PS4 level NX would be a stop gap at best and a PS4.5 would have to be priced as a secondary console by the time the PS5/XB2 rolls around

You usually don't talk about possible gameplay ideas once a game starts production and said ideas are actually worked on.

And yet Nintendo did a third Pikmin and gave money for W101. Why can't they support one of their most iconic franchises for the hardcore crowd then?

Those might not cost as much to develop compared to a Prime game is my guess. Though a 2D Metroid, I dunno why as that's probably far cheaper.

The Direct was the last straw for me. I ended up selling my Wii U, was fun while it lasted. Think I'm done with Nintendo outside of handhelds at this point.

Just like they canceled Twilight Princess for the GCN, right? Please, it makes no sense. If the delay was to port it to NX, they aren't going to outright cancel the version of the game that they announced it on, have shown it on, and did most of the development of it on. On top of that, Anomua already stated earlier that the game will still come out of the Wii U. Like I said, it's nonsense.

All you pessimists and skeptics...

And I'm hearing about a big open planet that lets you jump through time while wrapping up events with the mysterious Sylux bounty hunter while going back to what made Prime great, on a truly next-gen system.

... That's something at least.

I would prefer Wiimote support 1000x more, which wouldn't happen (see Splatoon) cause they have to justify the gamepad.

Not 2 but 4 whole GB of ram! 2 Wii Us taped together!

Well thats because Fans don't know what they want at any given time.

You mean the loads of fake E3 doc, surveys, forums, youtube comments, twitter replies, etc isn't enough?

You can make a thread on neogaf to list 10 games they want to see, take the top 10 most requested and use that for the conference and it would be 10 times better.

Fans know what they want.

They can make what they want so long as they don;t call it Metroid after such a long hiatus. If this came out right after Prime 3 for DS no one would have batted an eye.

I don't think it's that simple.

It was Miyamoto, not Anomua. But you're right, it'll be on both.

Yeah it's like because they didn't announce any big franchise that suddenly the Wii U is no longer getting any games. There's a decent lineup of games left that are announced, goddamn it's not that bad. Yes we all wish we got a new Metroid but there are still games coming out for the Wii U.
