Giants injury update:

Steve Smith practiced again today in individual drills and did work on scout team.
David Diehl also did individual drills and had a similar workload to yesterday.

Both suffered no setbacks after yesterday's practice.

The same goes for Shaun O'Hara who is still doing running drills and other offensive line drills. He is progressing nicely.

Hakeem Nicks had an appointment with the doctors to check his leg after surgery and the got all good news. The scar is healing nicely and he is on schedule and could possibly make his return for the Vikings.

Also...ahhh, Steve DeBerg. He wasn't a stellar QB by any stretch, but I miss him. Never have I seen anyone else so good at the play action pass.

Oh man, Deberg, I remember the one year he played what seemed like the whole season with what looked like the biggest splint of all time on his pinky.

I also remember Barry Word.

Well I guess Ill have to rely on you guys to update play by play till I get home and listen to the radio broadcast.

Please be in depth GAF!
I've heard about this app on the Droid marketplace called Live TV that can stream channels like ESPN, etc. Maybe you could give that a shot.

This may be a dumb question, but have you tried just going to atdhe.net on your phone? Unless I'm wrong, it should work now that the Vibrant has been updated to OS 2.2 (with support for Flash Player 10.1).

I haven't been able to keep up with the Nicks injury, is the scar a result of surgery from the injury?

If he's back for the Viking game I'm good with it - just in time for fantasy playoffs.

From the reading I did on his injury, I suspect it's from surgery that was done in order to relieve pressure inside his leg.

OK awesome.

Now, if Diehl comes back, do you guys agree with me on just keeping Beatty on the outside and putting Diehl in place of Boothe? At this point I want Beatty to keep that spot for better or worse. He did ok, granted it was against the Jaguars.

Yep. The compartment syndrome was taken care of by opening the leg and relieving the pressure as BigAT noted. The only medical concern is making sure the scar remains clean and the wound itself doesn't sustain any damage. Nicks said yesterday in an interview that he doesn't even feel it walking around but he's taking it easy anyway.

Absolutely. I don't want Diehl back at LT. I'd be even more adamant if Andrews was available but hell, just give Beatty his shot. When O'Hara returns, slide Richie back at LG and sit Diehl on the bench.:)

Me and a couple guys I work with were discussing some sports stuff, and we got on the topic of Kansas City specific rules. Like the "Neil Smith Rule" about false starts and the "Hal Mcrae Rule" about sliding into second base for double plays. Then we expanded into other teams. I couldn't find a list, but what are some other football rules created specifically for one player or one certain event. Obviously the "Brady Tuck Rule", but also ones like the "The Snowplow Game/Rule" or the "Holy Roller Rule" and things like that. What else have you got?

Mel Blount Rule - 5 yards to jam receiver
Dick Lane Rule - Facemask rule
Hines Ward Rule - blindside blocking
Deacon Jones rule -head slap rule

Tuck rule wasn't created for Tom. The Skirt rules were created for Tom. Also, the below the waste rule was enforced more for him and created for Carson Palmer. Dude's kind of a bitch.

Going low on a QB was enacted after the Brady injury, but that could probably be attributed to Palmer as well.

I have to win this week to make the playoffs.

I feel good about Ellis-Greene, Fred Jackson, LaGarrette Blount and my Chi Defense but should I even consider starting Boldin against Pit? I have Breaston and picked up Obamanu on a whimm, also have branch i could throw in.

the brady and palmer rules are slightly different, because they both responded directly to the situation. the palmer rule was about going low in general, brady rule was about going low when the defender was on the ground.

Oh yeah, Jared Allen got one knee celebrations taken away! Little did they know there wouldn't be much kneed for it this year.

the giants got the 'ballin' sack celebrations taken away. fucking no fun league, it would have been sweet to do those every time brady got sacked,

TO got the using a prop for celebration rule

what was up with the celebration that they did that looked like they were eating soup? Figured it was some reference over my head.

James Harrison rule : must wine and dine qb and lightly let him hit the ground and must slob the refs knob after he touch of the qb

By the way, Wellington - Gilbride answered the question about who would be playing LT...

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfceast/post/_/id/22373/gilbride-diehl-would-play-left-tackle

Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride indicated that Diehl would likely return to left tackle if Shawn Andrews isn't able to recover from a back injury that kept him out of the Jacksonville game.

"Depends where Shawn Andrew is in the mix," Gilbride told reporters Thursday. "If Shawn gets back, that gives a quandary or dilemma that you’d like to have -- you have two quality football players and we’ll keep David inside, but until that happens we’ll probably move David back outside."

So it looks like Andrews had won the left tackle spot permanently before he ended up in the hospital last week.

people overrate cool plays. he was a fantastic player, but he would also kill drives with negative yardage, and people don't remember that as much. he is one of the best RBs ever, but definitely a couple notches below the top.

Begging for an avatar quote, I see.

my avatar is eli staring into space after failing to slide properly and ending any shot the giants had at winning the game. it's not eli triumphantly raising a super bowl mvp trophy. cut me some slack.

You realize that the only game the Lions had was Barry Sanders?

You could pretty much guess that most of their plays were runs AND those negative yards you're talking about came from him running behind a questionable offensive line. How many Pro Bowl lineman did Emmit Smith run behind? Now how many did Barry run behind? Plus Emmit had Troy Aikman, a great fullback, and an outstanding receiving corps that kept the defense on their toes.

Considering what Barry Sanders had to work with, it's absolutely astounding looking at what he pulled off.

he wasn't trusted in the redzone, wasn't much of a receiver and wasn't a capable pass blocker. You can't wash all of it away.

busting up people's preconceptions is tough. people cling to players they like, even when those players aren't all that. case in point: brandon jacobs.
Wrong Giants fan, fool.

It's just funny you would say he's overrated. Overrated based on what? Name five better backs than he was.

wasn't accusing you of backing jacobs, just using it as an example.

as for better backs:

jim brown
walter payton
marshall faulk
emmitt smif
oj simpson

did you actually watch football during the 90s? the lions offense used to be pretty stacked with Brett Perriman, Herman Moore, those wayne fontes era lions teams were pretty good on offense. maybe during the chaz batch era you would have more of an argument.

Don't forget Jonnie Morton! I loved that guy.
Speaking of Lions, I met Scott Mitchell once. He drove a Jag.

It was that moment I realized that there was no god.
