Whatever...arguing about the quality of the 2007 Jets defense is stupid based on their ranking; I watched that team, and its defense was fucking awful.

The Jets just became a decent defensive team 2 years ago, and an excellent one just last year. That's where it began.

They had a good defense back in 2004 or 05, whenever Herm was the coach. I don't really remember the yearly problems after that.

I remember that year though because they shut us down in the divisional back then and we only won the game because the Jets kicker couldn't kick on our shitty field. Ben bless that run down field.

Melvin Bullitt is out for the year.

Hey Mr. Snrub, what are you doing on Sunday? I never met you, but you should be good enough to play for the Colts D.
:lol :lol :lol

Seriously, we're fucked. We're so simple to beat now...DT's can't get any penetration...secondary is all over the place...receivers have a couple of drops per game.

Game plan to beat the Colts:

Double Mathis/Freeney. Our secondary is so easily exploited and our tackles don't do shit, it gives guys like Orton and Garrard time to make plays. Our linebackers are overpursuing like its 2004, back when we used to have the "well, the D is young" excuse. Don't know what the fuck is going on but Dungy's discipline is missed right now. Manning is in hyperbaric chamber, preparing his shoulder for 40-50 passes a game.

I'd like to say it's injuries, but Hayden is a bum nowadays, Session had some big hits but some bad play, Lacey looked like a 2nd year last year and looks like a rookie this year--even Powers is making dumb mistakes. Bullitt wasn't playing great, but at least he was SOMETHING.

I think our problems are worse than what we faced in 2008 and I think it's a bigger issue that anyone wants to admit.

^ I miss Dungy so much right now. Can we start chanting Cowher or Gruden ourselves yet?

What exactly is wrong with Heinz field and why hasn't it been corrected?

They share the field with some high school and college teams and the stadium has shitty drainage. So overuse and its inability to drain water lead to some horrific playing fields. Teams have complained to the NFL many times in the past.

I assume that part of the problem is that the Steelers are cheap and that we must have some of the worst maintenance crews in the world. I am guessing the stupidest Rooneys get assigned to maintenance to keep them in the business.

Coach Ken Whiz on his QB situation......

"I think we're going to go without one this week," Whisenhunt said Monday, tongue in cheek. "I think we might just go all Wildcat."

God, I am still residually salty about that. :lol
We had you fucks beat if Brien could complete ONE FG out of the three or so he tried/failed.

Does the field play friendly to the Steelers due to familiarity? Maybe it's kept that way on purpose!

Well they certainly wouldnt keep the field that way if it didn't play to their strengths.
That goes for every team in the NFL.

While I agree that the Jets should have won that game that is why you play for home field advantage!

Narag said:

The main advantage is that it is really hard to kick a FG past 40 yards on that surface. It is pretty entertaining watching kickers miss big kicks (except when it is our own guy). Strangely we had a lot of kickers who sucked dick kicking at Heinz before we got Jeff Reed who has been really solid.

Otherwise its shittyness just slows down the game for everyone. When the other team is better than us then it helps the Steelers, but when the Steelers are the better team it hurts us. It really is an embarrassment and the Rooneys and the NFL should be ashamed.

It is. the Steelers' players have routinely lobbied to keep it the way it is.

Also, remember those cries of "Dungy isn't even necessary!" when he left? Good times.

Naw, with a name like Heinz, the other teams have to play ketchup all the time.

They just don't want turf (because they think it increases your chances of getting injured), no one said they want to continue playing in slop (which I am guessing also increases your chances of getting injured).

Interesting. Thanks all.

And I never wanted Dungy to leave
until he won his championship at home in 2012
! A strong defensively minded head coach leaving a team with a lacking defense bothered me. Was it yankeehater who said something like that? Was he a Colts fan two years ago? *punchpalm*

Today is the day that I say goodbye to Shonn Greene. BUSTED

Uh, that's kind of confirmation by exclusion, isn't it? If the slop caused injuries anywhere near as much they would have gotten is replaced ages ago. the Steelers have always been mudders, especially now that they're a running team again.

Pitt plays all of their home games on it, which is why the Steelers don't paint any of their logos on it until after the college season. Then, they play all of the western PA high school playoffs on it, which, IMO is just insane. But I guess that was part of the agreement when they built the thing or something.

They re-sod the thing later in the season, but you know, trying to maintain a lawn at that time of year in the northeast is futile. And as evidenced by the Steelers collapse last season, you know they don't do it on purpose, it sure as hell helps no one in particular.

It is rare you see people try this hard to try and come up with excuses for a player that has never shown us anything.

Even Carson Palmer fans gave up on him.

Yeah...think you got me confused with somebody else. I'd don't think "wait and see how he does this week" is trying hard to come up with excuses. I don't even like Kolb. Based on the fact that some twit from another board spent the entire off season telling us that Kolb was the second coming of Peyton Manning (seriously) and that McNabb was a cancer to the Eagles...well, I don't wish Kolb personal failure, but I'll have a lot of laughs if he does.:D

I don't know, I can't blame everything on Caldwell. The defense WAS improved last year and this year we have largely the same players, but we're playing so much more worse.

The whole "Dungy was a defensive coach" always puzzles me. I wonder how much say he had in the draft each year, because aside from a few key players, we weren't exactly drafting to build a strong D each year :lol

Flicked through his memoir and it seems he discussed very little of the draft concerning the Colts but had a quite a bit to say about TB so I've nothing to add here!

And here this seemingly answers another question I'd wondered about why some teams don't paint their endzones/logos.

Glazer swoops in and nails the story, Schefter tries to save face....bubububu they weren't going to trade him. Demands were to high!

We get dicked on the deal, no question, but at least now Spiller and Jackson can get the bulk of the work.

Was Tomlin trying to play NFL politics or did he really just think his opponent for week 5 was retarded and would not plan for the game with Big Ben in it?

Edit: Whoops.

And meanwhile in San Francisco.....

League source: 49ers are looking at TE Colin Cloherty, whom Colts waived in final cuts. Status of Delanie Walker (ankle) is unclear.

I wonder if he can play Qb?

So...what's Leon Washington going to do now?

One of the postgame shows discussing Leon Washington brought up lsat week how he sees himself as a kick returner and a back for maybe 10 touches or so per game, not an everydown guy. They commended him on knowing his strengths and for pushing for such.

Can we talk about how well Mendenhall is playing? I think I read somewhere he's the second ranked rusher in the league right now, ahead of Johnson, Peterson, and some other big names. I've been REALLY impressed with how hard he hits the whole, and manages to get those awesome 9-10 yard runs at least every couple set of downs. Definitely a HUGE improvement for us from last year.

Bills need to keep their picks so they can create the means to get:

- a QB
- an O-line that can protect that QB/block to enable Spiller to run
- some upgrades for their existing and mostly competent d-line

Lynch will help the Seahawks...:lol :lol :lol @ Neon Leon, though...he clearly isn't ever going to work as a feature/every down RB. If he could've just swallowed his pride, he could still be in NY returning kicks/punts for TDs and fucking the game up ala LT in the backfield on 3rd downs. :(

What are his numbers? Haven't been following him. If I recall, he had a solid (if unspectacular) year last year, correct?

Too bad Ted Thompson wouldn't make that move. Definitely looking forward to twelve more weeks of Kuhn/Jackson in the backfield.

1. Arian Foster, HOU 537
2. Rashard Mendenhall, PIT 411
3. Adrian Peterson, MIN 392
4. Darren McFadden, OAK 392
5. Ahmad Bradshaw, NYG 382

He had an okay season last year, but I don't remember him performing this strongly early on last year besides that wonderful 200+ game he had on a sunday or monday night.

He's the number two ranked rusher with 411 (behind Arian Foster with 537).

Personally I think that's pretty spectacular considering how 1 dimensional they were in their first two games, and the defenses they faced (specifically the Titans and Ravens.)

Since I was beat to shit with my post, I will say that Mendenhall has always been a good runner behind a poor line. Our Linemen are lightyears better than they were last year (which really reflects badly on Justin Hartwig) and Pouncey is growing immensely in a short time.

Yeah I'll agree with this. How many sacks have we allowed so far? Can't be all that much...maybe 5? We'll see if Ben can get used to having more time to throw the ball–god knows he ALWAYS wants like 5 minutes to do so.

All we need to fix is dumb-dumb errors and penalties on the o-line's part and then I think we're pretty much a perfect team. Other than Reed :x

This is why I feel so bad about Addai. Last year (and so far this year) has shown he's an excellent pass blocker, a receiving threat, and is extremely slippier/good at getting yards after contact. With a better line/offense not built around a god, he'd be getting a lot more attention as a back. Have to admire someone who's willing to take that role.
