I don't like the trade. If Moss really demanded the trade then I understand why the Pats traded him. Man this sucks
I don't like it either, but from a purely objective perspective:

a.) They weren't going to win the Super Bowl with him.

b.) They weren't going to pay him a high salary, so he would have either walked, been an unhappy distraction, or been traded for an even later pick.

c.) he's a bit over the hill.

d.) he has at times looked genuinely disinterested. He missed some blocks in the Dolphins game and appeared to have not even tried.

e.) Vikings are unlikely to compete for a Super Bowl birth with him. They have a better chance, but they're not suddenly an automatic birth. And after the season, they too will either have to make him a rich man or unload him somewhere else.

I don't like the trade because I love me some Tom Brady-to-Randy Moss pitch & catch. But he's been ineffective lately, is bleeding value, and wanting to be paid more than the value of his play suggests. Crazy because it doesn't seem so long ago that he was going for 50 TDs...and yet I feel like we've seen a shell of that man. *sigh*

Jets' run defense will not be gashed up - it's just not. AP will get his carries, and he'll get some yards definitely...but he's not going to run for 100 jillion yards. You've played MIA, NO and DET, and they're all in the bottom half of the league in run D...and the Jets are just behind you in the top half (#7 or 8 in the league). And they've done that with many of their top players out...which the Jets now get back healthy just in time to play you this week.

I don't expect 6 players to be dedicated exclusively to stopping the pass either; you know Rex sends the house when he blitzes, and he blitzes often, so there'll definitely be more than enough people to help stuff runs more often than not. I do expect that sometimes the Jets will do their best to blanket receivers to mitigate certain threats so that it's up to Favre to make the play.

If you get beat by crafty, controlled Brett Favre...then you just have to tip your cap. Figure they'd rather that be how they lose (if they have to lose), rather than on a 150 yard rushing day from AP or multi-TD days from Moss and the WR corps.

And the Jets don't have to worry about Sidney Rice yet...just Moss/Harvin/Shiancoe/Cammarillo/Berrian. That receiving group can be dealt with if you trust that the group that has done well against rushing plays and top RBs all season so far can hang tough and keep Peterson's rushing production from being crazy.

Okay dude. Sounds like you've got all angles covered. Should we just call this game off?

So someones trading me Steve Smith for Harvin... should I do this? What's it look like for smith a few weeks down the road.
Smith is out at least another week and has Claussen throwing to him... plus Week 6 is a Bye for CAR.

Keep Harvin for now and re-asses.

A. How do you know this?
B. This is true.
C. I don't think so. Remember he's averaging 15 yards per catch. And has 3 TDs.
D. Don't people always seem to say this about Moss?
E. Pay the man! Straight cash homie!

Reposting- Steve Smith(car) for Percy Harvin. Should I take the risk?

I wouldn't.

Harvin's got his migraine shit, but Moss should benefit all of the vikings offensive players. Smith is hurt, and has a shitty rookie QB to throw him balls. I've actually had to bench him since like week 2.

Nothing wrong with it talking strategy, I just get a kick out of homers describing their visions of how things are going to go. I just think your post reads like a Redskin fan offseason Super Bowl prediction. WE GOT THE HAYNEWORTH! WE GOT ARCHULETA! WE GOT JASON TAYLOR! SUPER BOWL BABY! :lol

The Hayseed rubes on talk radio here in Minnesota are doing the same thing the other way. OMG YOU CAN'T STOP US ALL! WE'RE COMING! BOOK YOUR TRIP TO DALLAS!

At first, I was shocked at the Moss news. Thinking about it though, this is the Pats. You play the Pats way, or its the highway. He came out and said what he said and voiced his grievances and wanted to be appreciated and believed he wouldn't be resigned. Well, guess what? You weren't going to be resigned. You've shown disinterest, you're dropping passes (including a touchdown in the Fins game off a great fake) and you not longer fit the way the Pats do things.

Now, the Pats are loaded for this draft. They will have 4 picks this year (including a first round pick from Oakland, just keep losing baby) from other teams including their own picks. That's a hell of a way to continue to rebuild the defense and continue to provide gems for the Offense.

I wish the Pats did this in the offseason and took Dez when they had the opportunity. I'll only be happy with this trade if they get Vincent somehow.

First off. That wasn't a good pass by Brady in the Miami game but whatever. As far as the rest of your post. None of that helps them this year. Sorry I don't look ahead to next year when the team is 3-1 this year. They have basically reduced their chances of a playoff berth and any chance of doing anything if they got in. I don't see how anyone can possibly think otherwise. If they make some blockbuster move for Vincent Jackson or something then I get it.

I'm not sure if some people understand how much losing Moss will ruin NE's offense.

Also I'm of the belief that if your team is good enough, you never ever EVER mortgage the present for an uncertain future.

it could have been the worst pass ever, but it hit him in both hand in the endzone

For all of you talking about Vincent Jackson, the Vikings had a deal worked out with him before week 1 but could never agree on compensation because The Lord of No Rings wanted 2 2nd round picks, Vikings offered a 2nd and a conditional pick the next year hinging on them signing VJax to a long term deal. In turn we get Moss for just a 3rd :lol

Thanks AJ Smith!

Pretty cool that all the lifelongs get to break out their old Minny Moss jerseys.
Must be pretty crazy feeling as a Vikings fan.

Seriously. Anthony Armstrong had not just one but two (back-to-back!) against the Cowboys in the endzone. That game, just like the Philly game, should not have been so close.

This is good news. I guess. Unless Favre somehow starts going deep every play and Moss nabs it like this was 2007.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they are going to do.
The two players seem like a perfect compliment to each other.

sad to see Randy leaving. but it's probably a good trade for NE.

Randy value would plummet in 2012...and NE isn't winning the Super Bowl with or without him this year. in 2012, Randy's value would have probably only been a 5th round pick. and with all the talent NE is about to have with all of these draft picks, their future should be pretty great.

First off, who's to say that New England couldn't still win the Super Bowl? I don't think anybody is ready to concede the title to the Jets or the Steelers, but if you don't think New England can beat those teams.. it's only week five and they just demolished Miami on the road. I would estimate New England's chances of winning the Super Bowl drop dramatically without Moss. This isn't the same team that can rely on its defense and its kicker.

Also, New England hasn't exactly set the world on fire with all its draft picks. I'm glad to see Jerod Mayo is out there, but the Patriots haven't hit a home run since Tom Brady. I wouldn't have paid Randy Moss a ton of money, but getting a third round pick doesn't help things much. Couldn't they have restructured his contract to give him a 2 million dollar bonus if he makes the Pro Bowl, 3 million bonus if they won the Super Bowl?

Fuck precedent, win now. If I was a New England fan, I'd be furious. The first round pick for Richard Seymour was one thing, but a third round pick vs. a potential championship isn't a good trade. Not for the fanbase. Expect them to turn on Belichick if things go South.

Thats basically what Favre did last year except it was Sidney Rice not Moss.

Yeah, my facebook page is pretty much all purple with people going crazy about this. Hardly anybody was a fan last week. :lol

I haven't got a clue what NE is doing. Brady is so pissed, I hear he may get a haircut!

And Vincent Jackson isn't a cure. IIRC, he still has to serve his suspension. He can't start doing his time until he's under contract.

Ehhhh you underestimate the love for Belichick around here, the Pats have a great future in place and couple that with what could be a huge draft next year, they'll be fine.

I really don't know, they don't seem at all chummy chummy like their first year together.

Pats are dumb, Jets fans are delusional if they think they can stop AP and Favre with all these weapons straight up. Your only chance is Favre throwing some ill-timed picked, which is very possible. Vikes just passed the Ravens with best receiving core in the league.

Their drafting has been horrendous, it really has. I expect a lot of these kids to develop, but even before that, there are a ton that they failed on. I don't know what they think will make this year different.

It's a little nauseating. I love bill, I do, but he's made some awful decisions in the past few years. People here in MA believe he has some sort of upper power that he can lead anybody he wants to the superbowl. That being said, people started turning on him last year, and this year when they (probably) miss the cut for the playoffs, people will turn on him hard. I'm sticking with this team, because I think they have a bright future, but I truly believe this will hurt the offense in a big way that people don't realize, and even if it isn't a dramatic dropoff, they don't have the defense to keep them in the game. Having one of the top offenses in the league kept them afloat so far, but look at the bills game, it's over without moss.

Buckethead said:
After raping the Phins why did Brady say he hopes he's with the Pats his whole career?

That was weird.
They'll trade him to the Chiefs when he's 37 or so. Why let him retire with the team where there's draft picks to be had?

SMH, Pats... why? He'd help you more than a fucking 3rd/7th will. Anyway, after years of near-misses, Brent2Moss is finally a reality, amazing.

Seems like everyone got what they wanted. It seems pretty clear that the Patriots are rebuilding and only signed Brady as loyalty to him/the fans/the weak QB market. Pats had no intention of keeping Moss so they dumped him for a good trade, and Minny is happy to take a receiver to replace Rice. No-one loses.

I didn't say Minnesota sucks at all. I said that it'd be much harder to gash up the Jets D than the MIA/NO/DET Ds (since those are the teams Minnesota has played and run on so far).

Also, @Drizzler...why not? AP, Shiancoe and Moss are the problems on offense. There are enough playmakers on Jets defense to help minimize the potential damage they can cause, especially with certain personnel returning healthy this week. It'd be one thing if it was a bunch of awesome playmakers...but it's really only them. Whatever effect they can have hinges on Favre, too.

Oh shit, Moss must be just following Revis around the league to keep popping his hammies out! That evil prick! I predict we trade him again to the Texans by week 11 so he can put Revis on IR once and for all!

FUUU i messed that up I meant the Jets stopping BAL,BUF,MIA,NE which are all mid to bottom half rushing teams. :/
