Clearly Manning will be a coach one day. Fuck he already is, he runs practice and he calls all his own plays.

See, but none of the really big name QBs ever became coaches. That I can recall off the top of my head, at any rate. Marino, Montana, Young, Kelly, Elway, etc, etc.

I guess Wade can finally release that incriminating evidence he's had over Jerry all this time. I mean, that's why he lasted so long, right? I swear, Jones was a complete dick to his best coach, JJ. Then he let Switzer and Wade stink up the joint afterwards. What did he have against Jimmy? PEACE.

Meh. I thought Jim Kelly would end up a coach, but he hasn't made any hints that he would. He too was a field general like Peyton. I would love to see Peyton coaching though. I think he'd be like a Spurrier, with a really quick hook for his QBs. PEACE.

I think Manning will be the first then. I cant see any other player in the league running his teams practices, can you? I really wouldnt be surprised if when he retires he is named HC the same day.
 
Everyone knew they were watching Wade Phillps last game as coach last night. Nice to see it finally be official, he has been holding back that team for a while (and the team has been holding back the team as well, not all blame goes to him)

I doubt it. Manning has made so much money over his career through his contracts and endorsements that there is no need to ever work again for him.

I don't see this at all ever.

For coaches you'd have to think of guys that haven't made a shit ton of money but are very cerebral.
 
I always thought Peyton would make a terrible head coach. I doubt he even attempts it. Imagine him trying to coach a QB with half his talent and skill? Guys that great usually don't have the patience and aren't able to lower their standards and expectations.

See, Lewis just strikes me as the kind of motivator who will find it too hard to stay away from the league for long. Honestly? I think Deion will try his hand at it when he gets sick of the analyst thing, too.
 
Plenty of great players will get offers do be analyst and shit and can make bank that way. Why go into coaching? It it ridiculous hours. Why not take the easy money and still be part of the game. It makes way more sense to me.

Why do you keep suggesting guys that look and sound like dumbasses but are physically talented (Sanders)?

If you want to see what it would be like with Lewis as a coach because he is a motivator, see the situation in San Francisco, but know that Singletary is probably a much better strategist and tactician than Lewis.

Deion Sanders' teams will have discipline problems. I'm calling it right now.

The best coaches are the ones who flamed out of the league or that never really made it. The only exception is Mike Ditka. That's it. Every other superstar NFL'er? Terrible coach.

You want good coaches? O-Linemen. Defensive ends. Fullbacks. Journeyman Wide Receivers. Guys who have to bust their asses every play; that realize that football games are won by execution as well as talent.

I admit it, I laughed. But it's not like every coach in the NFL has been a Mensa member. Both those players were extremely gifted, but also very smart players who have a reputation for mentoring people along the way. That's why I could see it. I think Lewis especially, considering how long he's played.
 
Yeah, Kelly's son died years ago. The only thing he's preoccupied with is fishing/hunting.

I think he did the analyst gig for a bit. Called Jim Harbaugh soft or some shit, Harbaugh took issue with it, punched him and broke his hand while doing so. Soft, just like Jimbo said.
 
I think someone like Antonio Pierce would make a great defensive coach. Solid vet, knew his shit, workaholic, but never hit like a jackpot deal and had his career ended somewhat prematurely.

that rah-rah shit doesn't work in the NFL for a head coach now (if it ever did). You need coaches that are smart, are going to put in 20 hour days gameplanning, because that is what their opponents will be doing. Bill Belicheck has the personality of a piece of cardboard but has credibility with his players, and they haven't tuned him out, because he gets shit done.

Ray Lewis already coaches in the NFL. His team is 2-6.

So true, which is exactly why Dinglebary is gone after this year. It's the same reason I think Pete Carrol will be without a job soon as well.

I think Pete is better at scheming then Singletary, but that really isn't much of a compliment. I'm pretty sure I can scheme more successfully then Singletary.

What possible reason is there for the Colts to let Manning run the teams practices, unless it is something he asked to do because he is interested in getting into the coaching side of things? It seems to me that way more former players are getting into TV now, even though players make way more money now. Guys get used to be on TV and having people talk about them and they dont want to give that up.

:lol Clearly Manning will NOT be a coach, ever. Why would he do that when he's already set for life financially?

Manning will probably become a TV analyst or part owner, but why would he take disrespect from young punks who have no idea who he is, and possibly tarnish his legacy if he fails as a coach...

Because he's a control freak? Ultimately he has control, he's got the ball in his hands every play. You give that up when you become a coach, and have to rely on other, inferior players having that control. I can't see Peyton (or other similarly great players) being able to handle that. Hell you already see him get all pissy at his own teammates when they fuck things up for him.

Manning is a control freak that has to manipulate everything he can. He runs practices because he wants guys to perform at his level. Not for aspirations to one day be a head coach.

Come on man. Manning calls his own plays, audibles, when he gets a new receiver he spends the week with them practicing. He's good because he has God like work ethic, but that doesn't mean he wants to coach.
