NFS:Most Wanted U [Criterion 'definitive' version]footage, info,Previews and more

Might want to check your facts.

One that I've heard of at least. I remember someone pointing out that R Racing Evolution was the closest thing to a racing sim in the entire Gamecube library. I don't know of any that came out on the Wii. Maybe some of the N64 racers count.

Well, I don't know if there ever was a true "racing sim" on any console ever, but if you mean something like Gran Turismo then I don't recall any such game either. Never played RRR.

But speaking about fighting games, Wiki says that Mortal Kombat Trilogy on N64 came out later than SFA2 on SNES in PAL region ;-)
was there really nothing else until CvSNK2 after that? wow :-o

I own the 360 version and vita. He said the PC textures are applied to the roads. I heard in other interviews make it sound like all the textures were upgraded. I love the game just wondering how much they upgraded the visuals.
Can't seem to get a straight answer.

All textures.

This is what is wrong with Nintendo. This is the effect of lack of third party: The fact that Capcom vs SNK 2 on the Gamecube was the first fighting game on a Nintendo console since the SNES version of Street Fighter Alpha 2. The fact that there has never been a racing sim on Nintendo hardware.
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mortal Kombat 4
Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli
Auto Modellista
A number of F1/Indy games on N64

Hope this is released at a reasonable price, 'cause I'm all for this game. Needs to be a reasonable price, if it's £50 they're having a laugh.

World driver championship for n64 was superb

R: Racing Evolution was absolutely terrible. There was an F1 game on N64 which was pretty rad though - F-1 World Grand Prix I think.

A pure sim - not. But a few 'casual' racers (excluding purely arcade racers like Excite) over the past two gens were:
  • Automodelista
  • NFS: ProStreet, Undercover, Carbon, The Run
  • Trackmania (game has sufficiently advanced physics model to be qualified as a proper racer)

They are basically saying that the road texture is far more shiny. Thats the only thing for now that really pops out in my opinion and the SPEED, I don't know if that's is purposely the capture footage they did or if the framerate is that good... Cant wait for the comparisons though.

Wii-U is not allowed to have even a second in the sun

Let us have our carrot dammit

Looks like more than just better ground textures, better lighting and shading as well. http://www.nintengen.com/2013/02/need-for-speed-most-wanted-wii-u-vs.html

These screenshot comparisons are really useless: Not only are the shots extremely blurry, but they were also obviously taken at completely different in-game times.

But the EuroGamer preview did mention improved night-time lighting, so the Wii U certainly will get some enhancements in that department.

I'm seeing some better shaders in those screens too, a different time of day should still show those regardless. The 360 version was at the beginning of dusk (still day light though) and the Wii U was during the afternoon. It was a bigger difference than I was expecting.

What? There have been quite a few fighting games on the N64. Most of them sucked, of course, but that doesn't make them non-existent.

There was also a race simulator on the N64, but I forgot its name. World Driving Championship or something?

So a Wii U game with a little effort should look like PS3 geometry + PC textures + probably improved lightning and framerate? I'm ok with that.

If you can accept that the main fun part of the game (multiplayer) is downgraded: Yes.

How is it downgraded? Six people vs eight doesn't seem like a big loss. And we don't know why the did it that way. It could be as simple as keeping wait times down due to the smaller userbase.

Killer Instict Gold and MK4/Trilogy am cry

He was talking about the general expectation from a game on Wii U based on the facts known about MWU.

Can you explain to me:
- why do you think that the "main fun part" of every game is multiplayer
- what is your reason to expect that the multiplayer will be downgraded in any other games as well?

Or maybe you didn't even read his post properly and are just taking every opportunity to bash the Wii U port? I hope you did the same thing when it was announced that the multiplayer in PS360 versions would be severely downgraded in comparison with the PC version. Otherwise you're just being inconsistent. Also, there is no additional content or functionality as a compensation for that downgrade in the PS360 versions AFAIK.

Anyone else less interested in this game for the simple reason its called "Need for Speed" and not "Burnout"?

I don't expect multiplayer to be downgraded in other games, but it certainly is in this one (which makes this port inferior in terms of gameplay).

Multiplayer is the main fun part of Most Wanted because singleplayer in this game consists of mostly uninspired and boring repetition: There's pretty much no variation in race types, there are the same five events for every car in the game.

Multiplayer, on the other hand, has plenty of interesting and creative challenges that provide a stark contrast to the monotony that is singleplayer. These challenges are also much more fun with more players being involved as they aren't all races (which also profit from more players, especially team races).

And, yes, the PS3 and 360 versions are downgraded in terms of player count compared to the PC version: It's a much more lively game with 12 active racers in a session. But the Wii U version is going down to pretty paltry numbers.

Let's not respond to certain people

Yep.

Depends. I have more problems with it when it is as unfinished as the 360 and especially PS3 version. Should have been never released that way.

I miss the days of local coop, the game looks nice but the lack of local coop is what has been making me ignore most racing games this gen =/

Yep. But atleast we have the co-driver feature ;)

12 > 8 > 6
you are seriously reaching here

PC has 4 more players than PS360
PS360 has 2 more players than Wii U

but you make it sound "paltry" gawd damn dude

It is paltry, I think you are the one reaching here.

Just because they are trying hard to force a marketing message doesn't make this the "best version" by any stretch of the imagination. And here I thought Nintendo fans were all about gameplay, not graphics.

compared to PC, 6 players on Wii U is crazy low. Compared to other consoles meh useless argument, I'll take the textures and miiverse integration over 2 extra online thanks

so glad your are a gameplay advocate in a Nintendo thread

To be honest, I have zero desire to play online. The first time some dude rams me, I'm gonna be pissed. Best to avoid that mode altogether. (Yeah, I know that's part of the game, but I can do without it, thanks.)

I can understand that, but I still suggest you give it a try - it can be great fun (and, of course, be frustrating at the same time). I still had plenty of fun in singleplayer, it's a pretty cool game after all and the repetitiveness of the events isn't that detracting from the experience. I liked grinding out the cars while listening to various podcasts.

I'm also not some crazy "Wii U hater", I bought the damned thing after all. But I'm still sceptical of EA's marketing message in regards to this game.

TL;DR: Buy this game, it's worth the money!

don't feed the troll guys; the posts in the thread for me are half by someone I have ignored and can't read, but the other by people who are quoting him...

pretty much will wait for Mario Kart for this kind of thing where it would at least be the point... Most Wanted online gameplay never looked interesting to me the only reason I'll go online is if I need to be there to complete the game.

I want to explore the city and enjoy the cars but crashing into people meh

The PC version is actually pretty cool (tried it after owning the PS3 edition), but I can understand that you might not think 8 to 6 is that big of a difference - you're probably right.

Not reading my brilliant writings, you're only hurting yourself!

Exactly. It'll be worth it to drive around in a Lamborghihi and screw around with cops. This is why I'm picking the game up.

I love Criterion, but their racing physics seem not to have advanced since old Burnout games. After playing Driver, I really prefer that to say NFS Hot Pursuit.

I think it's just by design to add that arcade feel; driver played more like a sim than an arcade afair

But I do agree that I too would prefer that feel in the NFS titles, they are becoming more like burnout series, which well, is what criterion is good at

Better framerate and draw distance (compared to other consoles) is gameplay related, Miiverse integration is gameplay related. Co-driver mode is gameplay related and it's a completely new mode, not found in the other versions. There's some DLC included as well - no downloading/updating necessary, gameplay related. I think these additions are quite nice and make it the version to pick up in my eyes.

Now there's two other things - the bigger price, which is temporary. And there's lower online players number. The mode is the same, the fun is still there, but you have 5 opponents instead of 7 on PS360, or 11 on PC. Now compared to PC the number is pretty pathetic and that version has better graphics and possibly performance as well. Compared to PS360, the number is a little lower and the game performs better. Well, I'd probably be on the fence here or (more likely) choose the PC version right away but with the new mode and other functionality on Wii U, I'll go for that one.

good point, I do feel they should have allowed other users to play as cops chasing you. This would make interesting online multi.

but if you want to crash into things getting cops on you in single player should be enough.
I can see someone having fun just crashing online as in that NASCAR Trolling thread posted a few days ago but that gets old fast when you have a series of events you went online to get done

Yeah, I'm just surprised it doesn't get called out more, ie slapping a diff name on the same racing physics. I'm sure it's fun, but I cant see wanting to own, Paradise, Hot Pursuit and this. It'd be too much of the same thing for me.

Still glad for more good games on my Wii U.

I don't even think you'll be able to find other 5 people to play with in first place so I don't see the problem to be honest lol
