Bruins GAF: The Canucks are a bunch of goons!
Canucks GAF: So are the Bruins, what's your point?
Everyone Else: Yay, Winnipeg has a team again!

Hey guys... there's a hockey game on tonight.

Blame the leagues horrible history for disciplining players. If they keep getting away with it, it'll certainly continue. They need to have the fear that if they pull some stupid shit, the penalty will be massive.

Because that punishment doesn't exist, players are constantly going to push the boundaries of what they think is ok.
"Intentional cheap shots causing grievous detrimental injury shall be punished by castration."

Problem solved! :D

MORE LIKE GOON GAME!

I'm actually really excited about tonights game. That Horton hit might light a new fire under the Bruins and its always interesting to see how a team responds to a drubbing.

Byrz will be a great mentor for Bobz
Bobz is still very young and goalies bloom in their 30s

dump Leighton or Boucher but keep Bobz on

I hate to touch on a sore spot...but when's the last time the Flyers bothered keeping around a goaltender long enough to bloom, as you say? Wasn't that Nittymaki before? Or did he actually stick around...

I want to see if the Canucks get blown out again. Can't believe they've been blown out 3 times this playoffs yet are 2 games away from winning it all, can't remember the last time something happened like that.

Seriously, how the hell have the Bruins avoided some of these suspensions?
You know how.

they could win the cup with a negative goal differential i believe. Not really meaningful, but kind of funny.

And I think most everyone that's not a canucks fan wants to see them blown out again ;)

If it happens again, and they tie the series, could happen. I actually enjoyed the spectacle of game 3, and the shit-talking in here, but only because we've still got a 2-1 series lead.... Delicate balance!

It's from the playoffs. It was a brutal, despicable hit. And there was no suspension. For all the deluded folk thinking the poor Bruins are being bit and cheap-shotted to death, consider it a reminder that few teams are so innocent.
From the first round of the playoffs. Against Montreal. With a box of scraps. etc. etc.

It's no different from an eye for an eye logic. So and so did this, so this other person should be out X-amount of games. Not buying it. Just sounds foolish. Every incident should be looked at on an individual basis.

Our fan-base was one of the first screaming for his resignation. If he was throwing us any extra benefits, we don't give a shit.

Fixed.

Suspension was inconsistent as always, but the NHL had its reputation to consider. Lots of media coverage and the talk about cracking down on headshots meant they had to do something. And since Rome was a 6th defenceman and Horton a top-line player, it was easy to throw the book at him.

I hope this series goes back to fast-paced, 5-on-5 hockey. I don't want to see a repeat of Game 3.

If it was say a Sedin, he would have been out maximum one game in addition to the game he was tossed from. Also if the game was on NBC like I said, much bigger deal. NHL is doing it's best to shade this kind of style from the masses. I don't agree with it, but it's what they do.

8-1 was just the 'nucks giving Boston a small glimmer of hope before wretching it from their hands, right?

I predict a bounceback game tonight. 3-1 score (empty netter), 3-1 series Van City

It is kind of news though. I mean, have they had a regular goalie since Hextall? Flyers go through goalie eras like the Leafs go through rebuilding seasons.

EDIT: I guess that sounded like a zing but...honestly, how many goaltenders are the Flyers going with next season?

Speaking of the Sedins,

Alain Vigneault said:
“We’ve asked the league, obviously,” Vigneault said. “Part of Thomas’ way of playing is playing out of the blue paint, initiating contact, roaming out there. He seems to think that once he’s out, he’s set and makes the save, that he can go directly back in his net without having anybody behind him. That’s wrong. He’s got the wrong rule on that.

“If we’re behind him, then that’s our ice. We’re allowed to stay there. We’ve talked to the NHL about that. We’ve talked to the NHL about him initiating contact, like he did on Hank, and they’re aware of it. Hopefully they’re going to handle it.”

Really...

Love how he defaults to legs behind his neck. :D

I was just using as an example...but yeah, it is pretty hard to picture regardless.

haha yea i know, I mean i get your point. If it's not Rome it could be a completely different story. NHL has sure bias on star players and suspensions.

Just couldn't help but snicker at the thought of a sedin doing any real hitting.

That Thomas check probably ranks as one of my favourite moments in these playoffs.

So who will be in net tonight?

Lolongo or Luongo?
Has there been a lot of criticism of Luongo? I didn't really think he could be blamed much for the first 4 goals. After the 5th goal, it just seemed to turn into a shitshow anyway.

He did seem pretty demoralized after the Marchand goal. I don't think anyone is expecting him to come out with a similar performance.

“We disagree with the decision, and it was a clean hit,” Vancouver captain Henrik Sedin(notes) said. “Talking to Aaron was extremely emotional. When you get to this point in the playoffs, you want to be a part of it on the ice, and Romer didn’t deserve what he got.”

:lol

spoken from a true expert..

I just thought some of those pucks leaked in and shouldn't have been goals. He has to be damaged mentally a bit after the other team scores 8 goals.

Van really hung him out to dry as well. I mean say Lou stands on his head that game, its maybe 5-1 instead of 8?

I think some of Vancouver's players who have a tendency to melt down is more concerning.

I just hope tonight is a fun game filled with no controversy. It would lessen the amount of whining in this thread about past events and dirty/late hits.

I'll stop whining when Vigneault does.

Ballard is in for Rome; Alberts stays in the lineup. Ballard will be paired with Bieksa.

I'm glad to hear that any finger-in-mouth BS will be met with a 2 minute minor +10 minute misconduct from now on.

Let's focus on hockey.

GO CANUCKS GO

I'll stop whining when Julien does.

Oh wait, he did after his players made him look like a fool.

Strangely enough met some Habs fans today on the way to work; they were equally excited about the Bruins losing as the Canucks winning. Also some sort of random Subban slam.
