One person wrote the blog. Why are you framing it as if the entire Canucks fanbase got together one night and each was responsible for one keystroke? One author (who makes a good case), Dastardly posted it, I commented on it. Period.

And you're acting like we're upset that we're not receiving "overly positive" coverage. Again, it's been overly negative. Feel free to disagree, but I don't think you've even been exposed to much of it. Footnote: maybe you did see this ESPN article on the NHL front page for days. That's the nature of much of the coverage. Seething contempt, contrived criticisms.

One person wrote the blog, but its been a topic of conversation here for a while and Nucks-Gaf thought it was relevant enough to warrant posting. That's what I'm talking about. For it to even be an "issue" is a little absurd to me.

The article you posted really isn't that bad. Burnside is obviously the one on the Bruins side but there are definitely "pro" Vancouver quotes in there too. I still see this as a failure for Canucks fans to accept their place as the "favorites" and that the Sedins haven't done anything to live up to their expectation as "everything" for this team. (Whether that is warranted or not.) When something like that happens the narrative falls into place. It really just comes off as not being used to being in the spotlight for a local hockey community. If you're not used to the somewhat insane national coverage its just lack of experience. The national coverage is ALWAYS this bad. There is STILL nothing special about the way they covering the Nucks.

So can I boil this down to you saying there is a bias, but that it's pointless to acknowledge because it's commonplace among favourites and particularly in the United States? That it isn't worth identifying comments from media personalities that present themselves as objective, yet take any opportunity to slight the Canucks and frame the narrative against them?! :P Disagreed there. It's worth drawing attention to. Of course it has a lot to do with being favoured from September to June. That really hasn't happened with a Canadian team in decades maybe. So it's been interesting to see how it's affected people, either positively or negatively.

And disagreed on the ESPN article. I think it's that bad. Some embarrassing comments from Burnside.

The Canucks need to win tonight. Not because they'd be in danger of losing Game 7. But because this beard is fucking insufferable. It's my second of the Playoffs - haven't shaved since the Nasville series. The moustache now has a life of its own. I'm afraid that in another 48 hours it might begin to tickle my nostrils.

If it isn't unique why do Canucks fans feel so slighted. No one else complains about it to the level they do. That's what I'm getting at. Everyone else is able to just look away and kind of laugh at it. The difference isn't in the coverage, its in the reaction.

You think thats bad, try living in eastern Canada and being a Sens or Habs fan, and getting buttfucked weekly by CBC showcasing the Leafs on HNIC, no matter how bad the Leafs might be or how good the Sens or Habs might be. Or watching TSN, which Im convinced stands for "Toronto Sports Network".

This shit happens everywhere.

You can complain that this is typical and every favourite suffers the same, but I'm saying it's not, particularly in Canada. Can we agree to disagree, move on, etc?

And what level is this reaction? One blog post summarizing weeks of biased media coverage, and some people agreeing with his argument. Outrageous!
 
Any one looking for a goalie? Emery will be a free agent. He's looking for 1.5 - 2 mil for the season and the Ducks aren't willing to pay for that.

You don't think we get CBC and TSN in Western Canada? :P That's more a case of disproportionate coverage - not like they actually pretend that the Leafs are a good team or slag the Habs/Canucks in comparison.

Same. I went to their open house this saturday and they said Hiller is good to go. He'll start practicing again in July. Apparently he still had no idea what was wrong with him until he went over seas and someone explained it to him in german haha. Everyone he explaning it in english but he couldn't quite understand.He should be ready come next season

They also mentioned that they let Kariya know that they're interested and want him for next season. It's all up to Kariya and whether he wants to risk possibly getting injured again but the offer is out there. Teemu is almost a shoe in for next season assuming his knee doesn't give him any problems while getting ready. I'd love to see Kariya and Selanne play at least one more season together just for the nostalgia factor.

Oh and i'm SO telling Hiller you have a Luongo avatar... he's going to be heartbroken!

No one is safe! I still watch hockey at 4pm. Habs were on HNIC more often than anyone this year, I thought, though? Or maybe that included French CBC.

TSN is another story. They definitely don't have any affection for the Habs - maybe since they figure RDS will pick up the slack.

If the Habs were on CBC a lot this year it must have been a regional thing, because most of the Habs Saturday games we were forced to watch on RDS.

Anyways, there is bias for and against pretty much every team in this country in pretty much every market. Sportsnet for example always seems pretty pro-Canucks while TSN and CBC are pro-Toronto. RDS is obviously a Montreal homer network.

My point exactly. No one saying anything about the Canucks coverage is saying anything worth saying. You just come off as whiny. That's why I said it comes off as inexperience with national media rather than a legitimate complaint.

But Sportsnet is divided into regional broadcast systems anyway. Sportsnet Pacific (ie, Vancouver), West, Ontario, East. They're not really in the same mold as CBC/TSN, imo. They're designed to pander whereas TSN/CBC actually convey themselves as objective.

Oh wow. So they actually managed to diagnose the whole 'vertigo' thing? I wonder what the main issue was... Stress? Had the 'beast mode' button on for too long? Also I thought he was Swiss, does he speak German too?

I'd fucking love to see Kariya back. I reckon he'd be as good, if not better, a second line winger than Jason Blake has been. Especially now that he's had a year to clear his concussion and get back into shape and game form. I'd love to hear some updates about him actually. I knew Teemu would come back, there's no way he wouldn't after the stellar year he had.

NNNGGGGG. Tell Hiller it'll be back to him as soon as this season is done. But as long as you don't tell him about my Luongo shirt... then we'll be fine.

Struck me as different than what Solo was saying, but either way you're driving at the same thing.

I insist that national coverage in Canada has probably never been this bad - particularly since Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa were over-achievers. Everyone's got their allegiance here. No one is immune in Canada. That's fair. But to ignore it and frame everything negatively with objective window-dressing, to me, is ridiculous.

If you want Wiz, you'll likely get him. There is no way we can lock BOTH him and Markov up this offseason, and its 99.9% guaranteed that we will side with Markov.

Im gonna be sad to lose Wiz. Dude was a BEAST for us. I think from the day he became a Hab until the end of the season, he was like second in team scoring. Crazy. Dude would kill it in Detroit.

Er, what? Healthy Markov (ie. Markov from the start of his career through 2009) is easily a Top 15, if not Top 10, D-man in the league, and much better than Wiz. Problem is, he has now had 2 straight BAD knee injuries in 2 straight seasons, so his stability is now pretty suspect.

I do feel a bit better about his return this time though. I don't know all the ins and outs, but it seems like after the first injury he just went with kind of a band-aid solution, whereas this season he actually had the full surgery and has been rehabbing for months. If his knee and Gorges knee both hold up this year, our D will be really fucking good.
