I was probably just getting reflux from tasting some Manics soup last year then. All I remember is some backhanded mudslinging at his name.

Mud will undoubtedly be slinged at him until he proves he can play a full season again. But when he is going, goddamn, he is great to watch. And Gorges has become a great shutdown guy and is definitely the next captain after Gionta.

If you want Wiz, you'll likely get him. There is no way we can lock BOTH him and Markov up this offseason, and its 99.9% guaranteed that we will side with Markov.

Im gonna be sad to lose Wiz. Dude was a BEAST for us. I think from the day he became a Hab until the end of the season, he was like second in team scoring. Crazy. Dude would kill it in Detroit.

This makes me happy, idk why Detroit would want Ian White though, there are better defensemen that are free agents this year, unless Sharks fans have any input on his play this year.

When its all over you'll be angry for about a day, and then you'll start looking to next season. It's ok. This is how things go. You'll look back and say, too bad they really were the better team. I'll say it definitely feels less bad when you're a clear underdog going in. In 1997 I was like 10 and I expected that cup. That was a tragedy. Last year, the win would have been fucking magical, but the loss didn't sting nearly as much.
I think accepting a loss in a seven game series is much more palatable than in a single game elimination scenario (like the NFL). Maybe it's just because I'm a perpetual pessimist (not just when it comes to hockey), but you have more time to, I guess, begin to accept the possible outcome ahead of time when things start going sour (with each loss). And yes, it is also much worse to lose as the favorite. This is why Super Bowl 42 will probably always remain the worst sports experience of my life, even though the Bruins have always been my number one team.

I'm not giving up on the Bruins, but I very much AM looking forward to next season and watching some hockey again that doesn't make me feel like my life and death are hanging in the balance. Also, I miss Jack Edwards.

This would be fucking great even though I hate you Quacks.
You can join the Ducks bandwagon for next season only =) you know you want to! We ARE the only california team that has held Lord Stanley... just saying.

I'm hearing that the Garden is cold as shit tonight. Apparently, during the Finals, the league controls the ice, building temperature, etc. This obviously favors the Canucks. The fix is in.

Wait, the Kings haven't?

I thought that they would have at least... when Gretzky was around.

So are we seeing a new champion today? Will Tabris' predictions be correct? Win it and win it in 6 games? Ugh... I have mixed emotions about canucks winning it...

They got close but lost in 7 games in the early 90's if i'm not mistaken.

Edit: They lost to the Habs

Well didn't the ice get all shitty because of the temp in game 4?

Underdog or favorite, it doesnt make it any easier. Wins and losses are black and white. They dont ask how they ask how many. The amount of things that have had to go right for the Bruins to get to where they are will be difficult to repeat next season and in the years following. Assuming they are able to keep this team together there is a small window for most teams. When will they be in this position again? They need to cash in now.

To Vatsteps point, The Patriots loss was brutal but not as bad as the 86 Red Sox. Even though I was only 8, I was awake to see it and living with that one was haunting (thanks classy Yankees fans). The 18-1 loss to the Giants was more like a sucker punch because we never expected to lose that one. It was easy to fall back on the previous rings the Pats have collected.

The only time Ive been this absorbed by a Championship run was in 2004 with the Sox finally winning the Series. I can only hope the payoff for this team will be as sweet as that one.

My first thought when looking at that chart was. "Wow the Bruins and the Flyers really are the same fucking thing at this point."

This is why I dont get why the Flyers fans werent supporting the Bruins. They play similar physical styles, same conference, Broad St Bullies/Big Bad Bruins. Maybe its the old "familiarity breeds contempt" deal. Its not too late guys, hop on the bandwagon and return from the dark side.

I can agree with all of this, but I wasn't old enough to really remember '86. Otherwise, yeah, it'd be worse.

Eh. I don't dislike you guys, but I like Luongo and Kesler, and I don't like Kaberle. This final is really meh for me, but if I have to pick I'm gonna go with the team that didn't sweep us in OUR destiny year.
Take that Tabris.

After seeing a first or second round exist the last six times in the past decade, it feels surreal being one win away from winning a Stanley Cup. I didn't understand this at all in '94... Hasn't quite hit me yet.

A lot more than will be celebrating Vancouver in the east. There are a TON of people from Ontario and the Maritimes living out west (I myself lived in Edmonton for 2 years).

Anectodal, I know, but I don't know a single person in real life who is Canucks fan. Everyone is mainly fans of the Habs/Leafs/Bruins, with random packets of Flames/Red Wing fans out there.

Basically, there are a lot more people going east -> west than the opposite, so the fanbase gets nationwide.
Fighting anecdote with anecdote: Don't know a single Leafs fan in BC. Know quite a few people who like the Habs and would celebrate the Habs winning (unless against the 'nucks) and even one or two Habs fans who hate the Canucks, but I don't know a single person who have anything above a neutral feeling for the Leafs back home =P

Also I've met at least 3 long-time Canucks fans here!

No one is safe! I still watch hockey at 4pm. Habs were on HNIC more often than anyone this year, I thought, though? Or maybe that included French CBC.

TSN is another story. They definitely don't have any affection for the Habs - maybe since they figure RDS will pick up the slack.
As I found out while I was in Montreal over Victoria Day weekend, CBC lost the French broadcasting rights to the NHL. 100% owned by RDS (CTV). They were actually showing us the NBC feed of the Sharks vs Canucks with French audio from RDS in the pub I saw it at. So I'm guessing Quebec doesn't see much Habs on HNIC.

The last Game 6 in Boston in which the Bruins faced elimination was in 2008 — any Habs fans remember that one? That was one of the best games I've ever seen in my life. Six goals in the 3rd period, and five in the last ten minutes in a Bruins win.

Didnt the Bruins get blown out in Game 7?

I remember missing game 6 because I was working and then getting absolutely fired up for Game 7 only to have my heart ripped out of my chest and shown to me before the Habs ate it.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

I'm even nervous for you guys! I don't remember being THAT nervous when the Ducks won. I guess cause it was this close. I want Tabris to lose...

Haha, yeah. It was still an admirable effort from an inexperienced team against the #1 seed.

LOL, Milbury on NESN talking about how they gave him a bodyguard in Vancouver

Rogers Arena is cold and quiet right now! Still pretty empty right now but more people are coming in. $60 for a fuxking longsleeve t-shirt. Jesus.

Not as nervous as I was for game 5. I wouldn't be surprised if Boston won tonight but not feeling too bad yet. They are showing highlights of the Sedins cranking out some goals. That hasn't happened much lately :-(

Wasn't that the season when Montreal blew a 3-0 lead in the series, Boston tied it 3-3, then Montreal blew them out in Game 7?

Man he just seems so sleazy....

Well he's definitely a world class asshole. But then, many of the all time greats in their respective sports are. Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever, and he is a complete dick. Im not calling Roy the MJ of hockey, but its kind of similar.

And he obviously passed his personality onto his son. I still remember his son gooning it up in junior a few years back with Proud Pappa behind the bench.

Thats sounds about right. Was that Ryders last season in MTL? Did he score a hat trick in game 7? Ill look it up...

edit
Ryder last seaon but he was a healthy scratch in Game 7.

It wasn't that bad, the Habs led the series 3-1 at one point and the Bruins tied it up before getting obliterated.

Roy was an asshole. But I still always liked him.

Canadiens had the most HNIC broadcasts by 4. I guess that's because some of them were shown regionally while the rest of Canada saw Leafs game?

Really? I knew MJ was a womanizer and all that, but I didn't know he was on Roy's level of douchebaggery. Then again I've never followed basketball and I was just a kid when MJ was around. You are right though. I hate Roy but I think it's fair to call him one of the greatest goaltenders of all time.

Look up MJ's Hall of Fame induction on YouTube. So arrogant, such an asshole, but SO AWESOME. And hes the best player ever and has 6 rings so he can be as arrogant as he likes.

Yeah, I think it was his last season with the Habs, and while I can't say for certain without looking it up, a hat trick sounds about right. I think Montreal won Game 7 5-0 or something like that. Carey Price's first and only playoff series win, too.

Just got approval to take Wednesday off to go to Vancouver for Game 7 if the Bruins win Game 6.

I'm still hoping the Canucks win tonight.

Off now to go watch. Nervousness seeping in.

GO CANUCKS GO

Turns out Ryder was a healthy scratch in games 6+7 and didnt do much the rest of the series.

Its just one of those things where my memory of his time with the Habs was him always lighting up the Bruins.

Well, either I can post later on and be happy to see Boston take it to 7 games, or I'm staying away from this thread for a while in fear of the amount of Canucks celebration that will happen. Either way, if there was one player out of both teams that deserves the cup, it is Thomas by far. Hopefully he gets the Con Smythe no matter what happens. Go Bruins, but if you are going to lose, lose tonight just so we can get this over with, if you take it to game 7 you must win!!!
