I think Philly has you at any given time. Pittsburgh whenever the team isn't in default.
Philly is certainly consistent, but it isn't known as a hockey town. We have more going on here than just the Bruins.

EDIT: NY really isn't. There is no solid hockey community there. Rangers and lesser extent Devils when they are thriving, yes.

Maybe if I post this pic, it will happen...

Ok agreed, but then you have to take into account that Boston has generally been much more affluent than Philly. Not really surprising they have more youth hockey and such...

For the time I have been in Boston, I have not thought of it as a Hockey town. Everyone seemed to have forgotten the Bruins existed in recent years. Ads that are meant to be odes to this sports town would normally leave the Bruins and hockey out.

San Jose seems more of a hockey town than Boston in any normal year. However, that is because for the longest time we have had nothing else. The Giants' success has changed that view some though.

EDIT: I think a caveat must be placed on the above claim though. This city loves its college hockey greatly.

Detroit yes.
New York, not always.
Hartford, no.
Buffalo, no.
Pennsylvania, not always.
...
Tampa Bay, YES.

Lol, seriously? Buffalo draws a higher local rating for our February Sunday afternoon games than Boston has for these finals. Granted, Boston's a hell of a lot bigger.

Hell, Buffalo is close to Boston in ratings share for THESE finals. There's no city in the US that's near Buffalo's love for hockey.

Boston fans always assume they are more serious about sports than other towns. They have serious superiority complexes concerning fandom. Hockey is one of their nostalgia points that just hasn't been very true in a while.

Whoever wins game 7, most of the fanbase of that team is going to taste victory for the first time. Every Canucks fan, obviously, and certainly every Bruins fan on GAF.

EDIT: O and NY too, between all the teams its just more splintered, but still just as strong.

Lets not forget about college hockey in New England which is a pretty big deal.

...I could say the same thing about your fanbase. You are naive to suggest we aren't one of the biggest hockey towns in the states. Nobody has backed any other significant evidence.

So you are factoring out the Beanpot. The high school and college levels in all of New England. Kids setting up ice rinks in the backyard and being prepped at early ages.

EDIT: I wasn't trying to crap on Buffalo. Honestly, they are the only team I mentioned I'm unsure of because there are zero reasons for me to visit Buffalo.

So glad you said it.

Now let's go Canucks!

I didn't say that. I'm just saying you guys are probably just on par with any other NE city. For Buffalo you saw the ratings that everyone pointed to before and like vat said earlier Philly's series last year likely drew just as many if not more viewers. Being a "hockey city" really just means you're in the NE United States. (Canada excluded)

Vat said it drew more viewers because there were two american teams.

You kind of did. You are trying to fit in your "superiority complex" thing. Not all of the northeast is the same.

The overall point still stands. I don't think anything really separates Boston from any other NE city in professional hockey fandom. I will say you guys probably do have the one of the best overall hockey communities, but again not everywhere is as lucky when it comes to economic prosperity in their region.

You are contradicting yourself. I made an honest and valid point.

Hockey is huge in New England. Boston is the hub. That's how it works.

I'll admit to some backtracking. Not all of it though. I was talking professional and you were right about overall community.

I ain't even gonna watch the third - Bruins got this. Better delay that parade until Saturday or Sunday
and change the venue to Boston.

Tim Thomas is the closest thing I can remember to Dominik Hasek back in the day. Late bloomer. Mean streak. Out of control. Dominant.

On a strictly professional level we are unbalanced. There are a ton of fans who quit watching the team and even though we are in the finals, refuse to watch because of our lousy owner.

if you think luongo is going to sit game 7 you know nothing about hockey. I thought it was pretty clear.

Bullshit. he has been terrible in 3 games, and the backup has done well in his place. They will never sit him because, but he should sit in game 7.

No. Fucking. Way. Anyone who has ever been around goalies, especially good ones, for any period of time knows that bullshit. Your starter is your starter in big games for a reason. Any coach who did anything else isn't worth his salt. Period.

Dont sell the Bruins short either. Bruins fans are die-hards after Neely and Bourque retired they had some real shitty teams that were still supported at the box office.

Yea but look at Madison Square Garden. And they compete with two other teams in the same market. Nothing special there.
