They could have given us the old 1 x 5min period but at least we're getting an extra minute this way and I would imagine it's reduced to show off some of the new presentation between periods.

If you have an Xbox One, and you don't have the Smartglass app on a phone or tablet (which you really should), from the main menu, scroll to the right and select search, then type in NHL 15 and the demo will pop up

Same. It'll be the first iteration I skip since the skill stick made an appearance but jesus I was already starting to feel ripped off by these games. But with the exclusion of modes now enough is enough.
