Nice win for Buffalo tonight. Sabres 8-3-2 in their last 13 to put us in limbo. 5 points from the playoffs, 3 points from the bottom of the conference. If the bottom of the East keeps sucking, who the hell knows.

I was half rooting for them to win and half rooting for them to lose in regulation

I don't know what to think about the Sabres anymore

This is awful

Yep. I figured this weekend would help secure the tanking momentum with games against the two best teams in the East. If they beat the Rangers and Bruins in the same weekend I feel like they've earned a bit of my respect.

Really this stretch of 5 games might be the toughest of the season: Bruins, Rangers, Ducks, Sharks, and Canucks. If they get through that with 6-7 points, their schedule opens up a bit and they might have a look at that 8 spot. The trade deadline is right in the middle of that, so should be very interesting.
Get Dustin Brown please?

They're facing Lundy tomrorow with NY right? Should be a tall order.

Roy+Stafford for Brown+3rd would be a great scenario

Would be nice, but no way LA can take on that cap hit. I'd imagine it would have to look more like Roy+McNabb (or other decent prospect).

And yeah, Lundqvist tomorrow I believe. :\

A little late, but I'm happy with the Hemsky deal.

$5M per year is fair. In fact, it's a bit of a hometown discount.
And a 2 year term is great. Minimal risk.

Hemsky is certainly worth $5M a year. His injuries are a concern, but when he's healthy - and he is right now - he's a dynamic player. Guys with a lower points-per-game than Hemsky since the lockout include: Nash, Parise, Perry, Vanek, Doan, Carter, Mike Richards, Krejci, Clowe, Plekanec, Giroux, Pominville, etc.

More than anything, it sends a message to the rest of the team (Hall, Eberle, etc.) that the Oilers aren't going to continue to stockpile picks and prospects at the expense of legit NHL players. Flames fans (JayBo $6.7M cap hit) can laugh. Leafs fans (Tim Connolly $4.75M cap hit) can laugh. Won't be laughing long :D

Funny that Hemsky lands this contract in one of his worst seasons yet. His PPG is much lower than usual for him and he's a -14 right now. Given that he's not really a goal scorer, is most likely exiting his prime and is known to have health issues, 5m seems insane to me. But whatever, it'll get the morons at the Pens HFBoard to shut about about trading for him so I'm happy.

Home town discount? Any GM that paid Ales Hemsky more than 5 million dollars would be run out of fucking town.
When healthy, Ales Hemsky is fantastic.
His health is a big IF, but a 2 year contract for a team that probably won't be contending for the cup in the next 2 years anyway isn't much of a risk.
Low risk, high reward.

I'm not certain if Grabovski will get more than Hemsky (I think he will), but I'm certain that Hemksy is a much better player than Grabovski.

Canucks just played their fifth game in seven days tonight, more than half of them being on the road. That's ridiculous.

They went 6-1-0 in that stretch. Also ridiculous.

Roloson can be very unpredictable, so a shutout against Pittsburgh may not be out of the question. He killed the Pens in the playoffs last season.

Wake up hungover as fuck and check the score from last night :

Everything is going according to plan. Wtf at that Hemsky deal, Parise sees a lot of dollar signs right now. It should increase whatever little value Kostitsyn has left though which is good.

I think the best thing is to wait it out this weekend and see how both of our goalies do, thank god this injury happened right before the deadline though.

If Auld fails(which I expect) I think Lehner is good enough to hold the fort. The kid's amazing.

Anderson won't be out as long as they thought anyway.

I can't think of a good goalie that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

Hemsky has had some good years in the NHL but if I had the choice of Hemsky or Grabovski right now I would take Grabovski easily.

NY will have poor puck movement and their transition game will slow down if they give up DelZotto and another puck mover prospect like Erixon.

Isn't that NY problem? they lack a good PPQB, why give up their best one and an upcoming kid like DelZotto.

Daryl Boyce claimed on waivers by the Jackets.

He was a serviceable fourth liner but I think the Leafs could probably use the extra contract spot with the trade deadline looming.

Wow fuck Columbus.

Crabb is unclaimable right? I heard there was some trickery in his contract that made it so.

I think he's exempt from re-entry waivers but he can still be claimed if Toronto puts him on waivers with the intention of sending him to the Marlies.

Yesterday, all the legitimate Ranger's media sources said they didn't want to trade Erixon because of Sauers health. Now they are gonna trade 2 of them? Canadian media trying to push Burke to make the trade and up his offer. That's all it is.

Defense wins championships.
