Ni no Kuni II's Development is 45% Complete

Considering how long the DS version took to release i wouldn't hold my breath for this year lol. As much as people love to shit all over level 5 i'd rather have them release it when it's ready as they put so much love & polish into their games.

The wait for the DS game was agonizing but was worth it in the end, the same for the 2nd game. By the time 3 comes out i may have a PS4 by then.

What the hell is it with Japanese developers giving arbitrary percentage to completion numbers. That's not really how game development works hence the frustration when debts say it high % complete but not due out for a long time as % complete tells you almost nothing about estimated time to completion. I really wish they would stop doing this.

Gantt Chart? I mean, in software development some people still use it.

The more I hear/see about this game the more excited I am. But I was really hoping to play it this year :-(

Are folks saying this asking for NO world map at all? Like just link the areas by loading screens or whatever?

Because exploring the world map was 50% of NNK 1's joy. I can understand people quibbling about the art style (though I'm all in on it), but removing a classic world map would totally change the game. This is basically the only big budget jRPG of recent years with a real classic style world map.

The style is a tad disappointing for me, I loved the first one!

They could get it done by fall if they're working fast and efficiently enough. Big if, but it's possible...

Really looking forward to this game, hope it comes out sooner rather than later.

LOL

Why did they announce it then? Its like FF7 remake, we'll be lucky to see that before 2019.
Because the game is far into development. Development percentages given by Japanese developers are basically meaningless (as evidenced by the examples provided earlier in this thread). Bandai Namco wouldn't be holding a big press event for this game a few weeks ago if it is coming out later than Q4 2017/very early 2018.
Damn, it's some way off then. Didn't some people even think it could be coming this year? Lol.
They had decent reason to considering the game has been announced for 2017. Again development progress percentages given by Japanese developers are meaningless.

I think a 2017 release is still realistic. If you think about it, Final Fantasy VII took only a little over a year to develop.

Final Fantasy 7 came very quickly; the development period was a little more than a year. That was very unusual at the time. …
To shorten the development cycle, they invested hugely into the technology.
The team expanded to close to 150 all of a sudden, from like 30-40 people.
