Ni no Kuni PS3 trailer

They've let that stuff slide recently. Sega releases the Yakuza games with subs only and Aksys recently released RoAWZ with subs only. That seems like one of those requirements that has slowly faded away.

Level-5 would have to be brain dead to release this game sub only.

Still not going to get too hyped until the localization is definite....and until I know it's not another deceiving Leve-5 game.

But yeah, I want it.

Will get hyped when a localization is announced. Until then, it's a very pretty trailer. :)

EDIT: What does the title translate to? "Ni no Kuni" = ???

3DGH isn't even an RPG. WKC would probably make for a more apt comparison, how did that sell in the west?

I don't know how much it sold, but I don't think that it's a good comparison. WKC had quite a few problems. The first one being that it didn't look like that initial trailer. It was also well known that it wasn't a particularly good game. The final problem is that it took forever to come out in the US. It was released in Japan in December 08 and in the US in February 2010.

Oh, I fully expect it to have a full translation. I was just pointing out that Sony doesn't seem to be against subtitle only releases.

Whatever issues it had, it's still a far, far better comparison then 3DGH. It's at least in the same genre and from the same developer even. Also, I'd wager the localization gap for Ninokuni would be closer to it anyway.

What about other traditional PS3 JRPGs? Maybe End of Eternity makes a better comparison? Or some of the 360 ports (Eternal Sonata, Star Ocean 4, etc)?

Damn, this looks so good. I'm extremely tempted to purchase it now.

So tempted. It looks so beautiful. But I'm not entirely sure about the combat, however. The issuing commands idea seems a little vague (ie: you just issue a command and it continues for a while until you decide to stop it, but I might be getting the wrong idea from the footage).

Regardless, it looks really damn pretty.

If this has English subtitles on the JP version I might import just to avoid having to wait too long for the localization. Does anyone know if Japanese games often include English subtitles or not really?

Can't speak to other genre but for JRPGs? Pretty much never.

Not really.

=3 i know the DS game bombed in japan, i still want to play a miyazaki animated game.
Well, it didn't bomb, it just didn't do as well as it could have.

550,158 units still puts it in the top 60 selling DS titles in Japan, and it's very high for a new IP JRPG, and there are only 5 PS3 games in Japan which have ever sold more copies than that.

But yeah, there was definitely potential to go a lot higher than that which they totally blew.

looks stunning
the overworld part never fails to give me the chills
and now they add a flying dragon on top of that? (and ship!)

in lights of recent development
i wonder if Hino started this after Lv5 failed to pick up the next dq contract

More likely than not, Hino actually wanted out of DQ because it takes away from his company's own projects. Level-5 is big enough that they don't really need to be doing that kind of contracted work anymore.

Looks so good. Knowing my luck it'll only come to Europe, where I'll have to import and wait 6 months to receive it. :|

The game in English is the game in English. If it doesn't drop state-side, that would be our only option.

Hey, it's the Invincible from Final Fantasy IX.

I know people hate to hear port-begging, but given Level 5's relationship with Nintendo, what do you think the chances are that this will be released on the Wii U too?

I was born in the wrong country for gaming. The fact that I haven't played the DS game and worry about this one coming to the US breaks my heart :(

I wish I could program a new language into my brain.

Quite unlikely. Much more likely for a sequel if this performs well.

For people who didn't play FF9:

If this comes to the west just do a simple english subs and menus. Forget dubbing the voices. Save time, money and everyone is happy!!

That trailer looks amazing! Really really good!

And i thought it's been confirmed that this game will be getting a western release?

http://kotaku.com/5582128/studio-ghiblis-game-getting-a-western-release

I really don't remember reading that anywhere before. You'd think a confirmation like that would be a much bigger deal but hardly anyone seems to know about it. As many others have already said it would be very surprising if we don't see Ni no Kuni come over to the West given the size of the project but stranger things have happened. I'm still going to import it though. There's no way I'm waiting another year (or more) to play this!

Oh and can someone explain the translation of the name to me? I originally thought Ni no Kuni was referring to a country of 2 or a country for 2 but based on "The Another World" translation it's actually referring to a 2nd Country? My Japanese is very basic.

Fuck that. No one would buy it.

Really? I always wonder why companies don't just sub games since it'd be cheaper than hiring western VA to localize the game. Especially if the game is niche enough that those who'd be interested usually are more than willing/more interested in the original language + sub.

How niche is this game though? I would say it has very broad appeal if marketed correctly. Personally I don't expect a million units in the US or anything, just because it'll be L5 US's first real stab at a game roll out, but I don't see why this game couldn't in theory be massive.

Haha. Looking at this, I really don't understand what Level 5 was doing with WKC. Cel shading is obviously their strength and they should not have ignored it with that game.
