At the recent Global Gamer's Day event, it was announced that PS3 game Ni no Kuni: Wrath of The White Witch will have a simultaneous EU and NA release in Q1 2013.

I believe previously the NA release was expected in late 2012, while the EU's was TBA.

A new trailer was also shown, and will be available "very soon", according to Namco Bandai.

UPDATE: trailer up

Bullet points of the presentation, via Reviews on the Run:

Carlson Choi, VP of Marketing for Namco Bandai says:
- It’s coming to Europe and North America

Akihiro Hino, President and CEO of Level-5 says:
- features animation from Studio Ghibli
- Was originally a 10th anniversary project for Level 5, wanted it to be creative and meaningful
- Looks like a traditional JRPG, but they wanted to get more creative
- Main character is Oliver, on a quest to rescue his deceased mother
- He cried on a toy she made him, so it came to life
- Story will deal with Oliver maturing
- You can switch between characters during battles
- Player acts as a “general,” calling combat moves
- Combat options appear like little cartoon thought bubbles at the bottom of the screen
- Music by Joe Hisaishi
- In stores first quarter of 2013
- PlayStation 3 exclusive

still very late, BUT at least it is coming in English and its coming at the same time in the USA as in the EU that is a good sigh!
One of the few JRPG's I'm really looking forward to.

At least the odds of the voice acting being better than the JP stuff is pretty high, provided the pull from the standard pool of actors.

Maybe they make the VA intentionally bad in order to capture the soul of the Japanese original! :O

The JP VA is bad in an unfortunate kind of way. They hired big Japanese names who are more used to screen acting than voice acting, so it really suffers because of that. It may have come out with better voice direction, but as it is it's pretty awkwardly bad.

This is super interesting to me. I listened to that example of bad voice acting you linked in the last Ni no Kuni thread and I thought it sounded okay! Of course that's because I don't know any Japanese beyond a bit of osmosis over the years and some phrases from Shogun I read as a teenager, so ignorance is bliss.

The weird thing is that in consuming Japanese media over the years, I started to pick up on this annoying vocal tic in a lot of stuff where everyone speaks in kind of a singsong exaggerated tone that sounds sort of overdramatic and fake to me. Is that an example of good Japanese voice acting? Because I only detected a little bit of that in the Ni no Kuni clip, so maybe I enjoy the sound of stilted, passionless Japanese voice acting better than the "good" stuff? I'm mad curious.

Maybe I'll pick up the Euro version to get access to the French dub, for some reason I think it'd fit nicely for this game.

What's your general opinion on the game? I've the slight feeling that "bad in an unfortunate kind of way" might be a pretty fitting description for the game in general.

The yakuza games have pretty good VO.

Also, yeah the "delay" definitely isn't old news, it's been early 2013 for US for a while.

Hmmm. Apparently it was stated to be "Winter 2012" before, and everyone just assumed that meant early 2013. At least, I can't find any actual reports of 2013 apart from speculation (correct me if I'm wrong).

Anyway-- Namco seems to think it's news! lol

Now where's dat trailer.

yea, people were questioning that release window originally. guess they wanted to double confirm it.

wtf?! That is insane...

Granted, there isn't much of a release window now where it isn't competing with other high profile games, but the PS4 could be around the corner...WITHOUT BC!

Since this game has been out in Japan for awhile, does anyone have a positive or negative view of it? The impressions have been pretty quiet.

The only review I've seen is Famitsu's:
Ni no Kuni (8/9/10/9, 36 points): "The graphics really make you feel like you're exploring an anime world," Famitsu said. "Combined with the impressive music, the atmosphere is perfect. The map's easy to read, too, and it's a snap to see what you're supposed to be doing next. Everything's well-made here, and anyone can enjoy it."
Another reviewer wasn't quite so impressed: "The fact that the Magic Master book is now in-game is something that could divide opinion, I think. It's a well-made, orthodox sort of RPG, but there's no denying that there's little in the way of new ideas here, either."

The "bad" thing is that it's Famitsu, and many people don't trust their reviews. But make of that what you want (:

As for the date, at least we know the period when it's coming to America; it's better than nothing. Hopefully it sells well, not like in Japan...

I think in general it's safe to say that the majority of people who want this game (myself included) are interested largely in the visuals and art (and probably the lovely soundtrack). If the rest of the game is good, I will think of that as being a nice bonus.

I've shown some of my buddies who aren't anime fans and haven't played many rpgs this year, and they said they're interested because it reminds them of pokemon - then again, they probably wouldn't be included in the "majority".

this was in my top 5 most anticipated games this year so I can't say that I'm not disappointed that the release date was pushed back, but I guess it was expected.

hmm...I hope it'll still be on my radar that long then. Thanks for the famitsu look.

I really haven't heard anyone here rave about it :/

well since ghibli is not too fond of story and character development after miyazakii's illness,
(the recent films really made me cry... not a good thing) and Level 5 is notorious for terrible stories- i'm willing to wait this one out.

the visuals are breathtaking, however, and i think that's why ill get this game..

Make a new thread for the new news!

I've been on media blackout forever but I decided to at least listen to the trailer like I listened to the Japanese one since this ish is still like a year away. Sounded pretty good!

I'm surprised, the English VA is pretty good! Judging from the trailer, I don't know why it's going to take them almost another year to localize this. Looks like a lot of it is done. Maybe they're just going to sit on it until then for some reason?? I think it would be better to have it out at the end of the year for the Holiday season (would be a great Christmas game). It would be good competition for the WiiU lineup too.

Was there a spellbook released with the Japanese version, like the DS game? If yes, has it been confirmed that NA and EU will get it as well?
