Nibellion leaving Twitter

I hope these people know there is a world outside of Twitter
They don't.
That's the problem. Those people never leave their basements and offices, they know nothing about the real world and they're leading the industry and shaping culture. This is a huge problem.

I will literally never understand twitter people. I'm not a Trump guy, I'm not even American, but I saw so many people blaming orangeman for literally everything that happens in life itself - even after his presidency, and now the same thing is happening with Musk. Yes, even outside the NA.
So what if he bought Twitter? How does it actually affect you in any way? How does it remove your freedom to tweet about gaming news? These folks are acting like Elon is about to do their moms if they don't run away now. And kick their dogs. And set their house on fire. It boggles my mind. It's not like Twitter was run competently before and he even says as much.
To top it off, he wanted to make money.. from...tweeting? What the fuck was he expecting? I liked the dude but his farewell message is pretty stupid. Such a weird exit.

I was never verified and don't plan to be so I personally don't give a shit. Plus, anyone who is important to the point that there's a public interest in them being verified probably has a company of sort through which they can charge the $20 monthly fee as an expense so.......

Yeah obviously sucks for verified people but I find it hard to care.

People like to blame others. They care a lot about what other people do or have instead of just focusing on themselves. If Musk was a boring exec or an investment company buying it nobody would care. But when you got a rich guy who doesn't take shit from people, all the marginal thinking losers feel nervous because they got a guy in charge who doesnt give a fuck and will make fun of idiots. They dont get it that he's just trolling for laughs just like all the Twitter people do too. When someone else does it, it's s personal insult. When they combine into a mob and do it at people it's all good and funny.

Interestingly, all the complainers about freedom of speech and information should love Musk. Musk is someone who speaks his mind (instead of being an invisible suit and tie drone), and as I said above they already changed the search feature.

People who dont have a Twitter account like me can now use the search tool instead of being plastered with a blue landing page saying Sign Up to Twitter. More people can use the site and check out the info.

Delivering news at this pace and consistency means you literally have no life outside constant monitoring of all available dev and publisher outlets.

It's not really all about reposting someone else's content in his case but more often than not providing lightning-fast summaries of said content and live coverage, neither monetized in any way afaik.

I hope it all works out for him down the road.

They should charge $100/month for those stupid blue ticks.

They have so much cultural cache in tastemaker circles that giving them to so many losers has degraded wider society.

Leaving Twitter is healthy no matter who's in charge tbh.

I'm trying to leave all social media. Facebook is done. Twitter i only follow 30 people now. Instagram is next i'll leave as well.

I'm so done with social media overall.
I only use Twitter for relevant news now, mainly games, no personalities and they get 1 chance to not shove political agendas in my feed, if they do, they're gone

I guess giving him patreon money would be like subscribing to a paid newsletter? But then again, he wasn't part of any editorial writing the news, so... I dunno.

Wario64 seems to be doing it right, taking ad money for his account. Anyway, I never was subbed to Nibbel. I remember him being a smartass fanboy in the older GAF days and I also didn't want to follow anyone who was a resetera mod... But I got my Twitter news just fine. Just follow the people he was retweeting, lol. And a few outlets like Gematsu or Save You a Click Videogames, you'll be covered.

On the other hand, they do serve as effective warnings, much as the bright colours on a plant do, or the bright hair of a particularly dangerous university student.

All this dude basically did was aggregate news from elsewhere and provide minimal personal insight, if any.

And he expected to generate a basic, liveable income from this?

He tried with Patreon, but only got $3k a month (that would be a lot of money for me buuuuuut it was still not enough gor me)

It's clear that he can no longer spend his free time on Twitter posting news stuff.

This. He had a lot of free time, it's clear that he could no longer sustain this lifestyle.

One isn't inherently built on exploitation?
A penniless person can exploit people just as much as a billionaire. And even if you could logically rationalize that a billionaire is "built on exploitation", it does not mean all their opinions and choices are wrong and should be attacked.

If he's making $3k/mth ($36k/yr) just retweeting news and chiming in with occasional tweets, that sounds like the easiest $36k ever. The guy surely has key game site and forum notifications on and posts the key topics of the day.

The only people who have any reason to be verified can afford $20 a month.

In fact I would love to know the socioeconomic, particularly economic, demographics of people with blue checkmarks. I guaranteed their median and average income is at least 2x the US average.
I would think that verification should start at 5 dollars per month for anyone, and then go up in scale as follower account increases, at least when it's clear that the twitter user in question is promoting a business or monthly supporters.

Lmaoooo, yea no.
The vast majority of big time businessmen dont get rich on salary. It's on stock options. It's not like they are stealing profits into their bank account. The higher the price the more they make. And so does every other stock holder. You only hear about the ones who make big money. A lot of execs lose it all if the stocks tanks.

Well, at least you are honest to your station by replying with "lol", "lmfao" or "yikes" and whatever people reply with when they don't have any arguments.

I prefer dumb stuff like that over someone who thinks they understand the societal and economic impacts of a billionaire.

The business doesn't exist in a bubble, to get to a point of profitability where your stock is going to become enough where you make a decent return on it requires said business to operate in a way which is inherently exploitative. Thats how you become a billionaire, its not done by doing business in a charitable way. If you can name a billionaire whose business isn't built on exploitation lmk.

If you're saying people with nothing can be as exploitative as billionaires it just becomes a moot argument. By definition that is impossible. Like me saying a homeless man can be as dangerous as the president. That's such a hyperbolic statement it borderlines comedy.

CEOs or billionaires dont set the stock price, the market does.

There's lots of rich people from companies that even lose money. But if stock traders want to keep the stock up so they and the CEO can cash out, cant fault the business guy. He's just going on for the ride. If you want to see CEOs lose net worth, let the stock sink to $0 and his options are worth nothing.

Running a profitable business isnt evil or exploitive. You some reason have an issue with it. Dont be jealous at rich people. Just focus on yourself.

I am not saying a homeless person can be as dangerous as a billionaire. I am saying the judgment of a rich or a poor man is equal. You should not attack someone automatically because someone is a billionaire. The "moves of a billionaire" might be great just as well, so having a viewpoint that "all moves of a billionaire" is a problem, is ridiculous. It's just vitriol.

Twitter is built for quick responses, news, sports updates and terrorist groups use it as a weapon this is exactly what happened to MySpace, tumblr, and google plus.

Naturally it's vitriol. That word isn't inherently negative. But we're not going to see eye to eye. I just don't understand the Elon defense force much.

Rich people utilize the system to bolster their own wealth with means of corruption such as buying politicians, running out small businesses with less resources, utilizing explorative labor globally, tanking local economies to buy up properties. So it's not just as simple as "the market decides" when the market doesn't exist in a vacuum and can be manipulated.

Edit: own 3 properties with the money I make from a tech job that are all in the green. It's not jealousy but it's easy to see how gated wealth can be based on access. I got lucky and just took the opportunity from Covid to buy properties at under 2% interest rates because I was able to work from home when others were selling. Assuming it's jealousy is a silly assumption for a stranger.

I don't either.

He's actively making the platform worse and that's fine, I'm not a Twitter consumer like that so meh but let's just call it what it is.

One thing I do like, is he's actively ripping apart the "tech genius" aura he's gained over the years and I'm all for it.

These people are just as dumb as most other people, let's stop worshiping them.

I'm watching with popcorn in hand. A lot of the blue checkmark folks can't live without the blue check because their ego requires it, but they also hate Elon and don't want to give him money.

They also do great things. You can't just gather up all the worst-case scenarios and line them up in a statement like this.

It's like me saying Playstation is exploiting microtransactions, feeding off the weak, causing online addiction etc... without mentioning all the good they do and the context of it all.

That's a bad example because the good provided isn't charity. It's actually an overcharge to continue to meet and beat profits from last quarter. Also if PlayStation, Xbox , switch was ran with any hint of hood the consoles would be much more expensive because it wouldn't be using exploited labor for parts. We just turn a blind eye because what can you do? Our entertainment comes at the cost of others.

People assume if you have a skill at making money you must be an overall genius. It's usually only afforded to this particular skill. Why many will trust rich people over doctors and scientist.

No, if it was more expensive, it would not exist in the first place, and hundreds of thousands of jobs would never be. And most of them are not exploited labor, and it's not Playstation that regulates that market.

hold up hold up hold up, Twitter will charge people a monthly fee for a blue checkmark JPEG?

ahahhahahah

Damn, didn't realize peoples self esteem was this low that they need a blue check mark to be a valid human.

Well there you go.

You work at a tech job that looks like pays you well and you scooped up properties on the cheap. Looks like you are no different than billionaires. It's just that you are making good money on a smaller scale.

I make decent money and dabble in real estate too. You got more properties than I do. Yet I dont complain about making money or care what other people have.

Are all gamers narcissists? I don't give a fuck that you want to get banned from Neogaf, and I sure as fuck don't care you are leaving twitter for some dumb fuckin' reason.

Translation = I tried to grift from posting gaming news lifted from legitimate gaming news sites from my mothers basement but no one gave a fuck enough about me to give me real money to do it as my main source of income. This seems like an opportune time to reap the most attention due to Musk buying twitter so I'll leave with my tail (read animal tail dildo) firmly between my legs.

I wish she/her/they luck in the real World after living on twitter for a decade...
