Sending them to barely legal fans who regard him as an internet celebrity and trying to immediately capitalize on that by asking them to blow him or send him nudes (while talking about a motherfucking Waluigi shirt) is so, so much worse.

These are fans and other industry colleagues who follow him because of his Polygon content. He's representing his company, whether he wants to or not. He's in the wrong, big time, and he's very likely going to pay the price for it. I mean, even if Polygon doesn't fire him, he's rightfully going to be ostracized from those in games media.

I thought this was his personal social media that has nothing to do with his job, i.e. 100% on his own personal time on his own personal social media that has no link to his job.

It's not unheard of, at this point you are arguing about basically raising the age to be considered an adult. 18 year olds are free to make adult decisions at the moment even if they are still young and impressionable due to being inexperienced with life in said adult world typically.

No, I'm not saying he was commenting using Polygon's Twitter account or anything. But when you're a visible persona for a business, even comments from your own social media account are fair game . You can say "these opinions are my own" but that doesn't really shield you from stuff like this.

15 =/= 18. 18 is the age of consent in California. She is/was an adult in the eye of the law. He wouldn't have been charged if he had sex with her.
 
Sounds like this guy was using Twitter as some kind of dating app, not that problematic if you ask me. But I do agree he seems way too thirsty on those examples, probably needs to see a psychologist about that.

Being technically legal and being creepy are two different things. The court of public opinion is not the court of law.
 
Yeah after what I've seen now I'd be shocked if this guy doesn't lose his job. If he knows what's best for him he'll probably fuck off from the industry for an extended period of time before attempting any kind of comeback.

I doubt his career is over for good but after this he should take some time to grow up and sort his shit out and learn how to be a person.

16 is the age of consent in germany. He wouldn't have been charged if he had sex with a 16 year old over here. In some cases, the age of consent can even be 14. Yup! He could have sex with a 14 year old and it could be legal!

It still would be creepy as fuck. Legality has little to do with morality.

People who haven't mentally grown up typically, but it largely depends on the said 18 year olds personality. Some are largely more mature about shit than say some 30 year olds

First of all, I know generalizations are a big part of GAF culture but there are plenty of 18 year olds who can act and be adult. Second, there are plenty of people in their 20s who date 18 year olds because physical attraction is literally all it takes.

Third as a bonus, a lot of people in their 20s aren't any further developed mentally than most 18/19 year olds.

Musicians have done this every day for decades and I've never heard a peep about it being harassment.

Just so people don't put words in my mouth - I'm not saying that Nick Robinson is innocent, that his conversation with that girl was appropriate, or that there isn't much worse stuff that he did that hasn't come out yet. My gut feeling is that it goes much deeper than what is already out there. I'm just replying to the point being made above.

I think that you aren't giving women enough credit if you think that they couldn't possibly have the ability or frame of mind to responsibly date someone in their twenties. Some 18 year old men are mature and are ready to date older women, I'd reckon the same is true for the opposite sex.

First of all dude isn't some big ass big shot musician, second of all that's just as bad if it's unwanted, third people are typically more vocal these days about stuff like that.
 
Maybe is because in my country at 18 years old, you are considered an adult, fully responsible of your actions to the society and the law, so I'm not that creeped out an one 20s something adult trying to have a date with a 18 year old.

(Not defending his behavior just this fact...)

Same here in the UK. But saying that its "predatory" and "on some R.Kelly Shit" is totally overblown and ridiculous.

Him basically saying "I'm famous, fuck me" is the creepiest thing. The woman in question being 18 is just an addendum to this shit storm tbh.

In that you are trying to paint his gross & unsolicited "SEND NUDES" and "THIRSTY? ;)" bullshit as "flirting" you are inherently misrepresenting the situation and defending his behaviour based on false merits.
 
It's a real fucking enigma why women don't feel comfortable stepping into the limelight making accusations against men in gaming when some people on Neogaf - everything wrong with social justice culture in gaming, witch hunt experts, and killers of Innocent Mens' careers - react with shrugs and questions of 'maybe his shitty behavior is her fault?'.
 
I am in no way condoming this dude's behaviour but please the age discussion is really weird. 18 year olds are adults let them make their own decisions.
