lol, seems people really don't like their taglines! :P If people want I would also remove the tagline, haha.

I like your poster, but yeah I agree on the taglines bit. Drive is not a tagline movie. The tagline should reflect the movie, and in this case, it's mostly silence. On another note, this Cagliostro poster is fucking awesome.

How does this site work by the way? Do you just create posters and then upload the artwork while they print and ship? Also what is the quality like? I want something of really good quality worth framing.

Feel like we could probably do a tagline on this one!

I don't understand the love and or praise for this film. It was a mediocre at best. The only decent scene in the movie was the opening scene, that is it. Everything else just went downhill from there.

Tubular tale, sibling.

There's something about it. It's hard to explain.

I was super-hyped for this movie and got the chance to watch it the other day. I can see why it's liked by others, but it left me entirely cold. I don't know how to explain it, but it's like the entire story exists in some kind of vacuum. I didn't mind the slow, methodical romance plot, but the pacing of the events was still very off. None of the characters felt very developed, especially the two main baddies who seemed to exist just to put some drama into the story.

The best thing the movie could show off with was the actual directing. Really well-shot, and the electro music was such a surprisingly good fit too. All in all, the movie was "alright", but nowhere close to what I had hoped from it.

Saw and was disappointed. It delivers stylistically on all fronts (sound, camera, etc.), the performances are spot on, but as a movie it's just a slightly above average revenge film with a piss-poor script. The last third was supposed to be the most exciting, but ended up being a complete chore to watch.

Edit: Having read the thread, I want to clarify -- I loved the "silent" scenes in this film, with either music or just driving. I love the way they explored the relation between the Driver and his machine. But this made the disappointment with how the rest of the film didn't come together even bigger.

The restrained tone of the entire film makes it thouroughly tense throughout. You know the driver is like an half-tamed animal. It's as though he's dancing on the edge of civility and uncontrolled violence and you're never sure when he'll lose control. That adds to the intensity of the film and makes high points - the moments where he wigs out- all the more rewarding. The driver is also enigmatic which makes the movie more compelling in that you want to learn more about him. Ultimately you don't really learn much, but seeing such an odd character (possibly a monster or some sort of wild animal) interact with "normal" people is interesting in its own way.

Also the soundtrack kicks ass and the elevator scene was awesome.

Yup, pretty much. Society6 does all the shipping and printing, which makes it easier for lesser-known artists like myself to deal with selling prints. They're all pretty good quality - I ordered one myself (of my Baccano! poster) to test it and it looked great. I upload all my posters in the highest quality possible, so it should turn out really nice.

Also: Drive poster tagline removed, as requested. :P

Saw this one last time before it left theaters. It is just so damn fun. First viewing I was blown away, 2nd one I was nitpicking it to make sure I liked it as much as I did. This time I could just enjoy the shit out of it.

Just saw it. It's basically a standard man vs. the mob movie, but holy shit does Winding Refn elevate the material. It's so moody and tense and gorgeous to look at.

Gosling doesn't need to do much. He is the Driver.

Just came back from it. And haft to agree with you on every point here - the plot is fairly standard for the genre, but the way it's executed is wow, the use of music was exceptionally good to.

I think a few things hold it back from being great and I'm not so sure if it will be hailed as a classic within the next 20-30 years as some people have said here, but it was definitely a solid experience either way, and well worth the price of admission.

Tears emerged when brian eno's 'an ending (ascent)' first started playing. Then they kept using it throughout the entire movie..yeah, excellent. One of my favorite movies of 2011 thus far.

if you watched it in theaters you'd know they actually didn't use that song. it was used in the temp version leaked all over the interwebs. way to go.

Aha!
God why is this not out on BRay yet! I want to watch it again and also show it to the lazy fucks I know who didnt go and see it in the cinema.

Rumors are saying January which is bullshit. That is definitely too far away!!!

Saw this today with my girlfriend having no expectations at all. Literally the only things I knew about the film were that Ryan Gosling was in it and he was a stunt driver and it was called Drive. Basically we were At the movies to kill time.

Now, I keep replaying so many different scenes in my head that I enjoyed. Haunting. Stylish. Genius.

Kinda amusing this thread came up, I know the director's sister.

Havent seen the movie yet, but heard its suppose be dope.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents to this thread :P

I was wondering why I don't recall hearing this in the actual film. Rolling over here.

Really? Shame, although now I'm even more excited about getting the blu-ray. Wish 'an ending' would be in it still but that's what I get I guess. Theaters near me won't be screening it sadly.

Anyone bother to read the novel? Up to Chap. 17, and I like it so far. More background on Driver, some characters not part of the movie are presented, and it does give an idea of changes that were made for movie

Ah, just saw the novel @ B&N. Gonna have to pick it up now.

Refn says there is a much better version of the home release coming at The Playlist.

“The version that is released now, like soon, is fairly standard,” Refn revealed. “It does not include any audio commentaries with either Ryan [Gosling] or myself, and it does not include any secret, revealing elements, or mysteries solved, or a huge amount of spinoffs. [But] because I’m a Blu-ray fanatic – no, fanatic, like religiously – I hope that in the near future, I will be able to release a movie that’s not just a movie, but also one that describes the process of the filmmaking, and answers some of the more mysterious elements of the success of that it has achieved.”

And I uncovered an article with a few details on his next film, Only God Forgives! Put all the important points here:

Is he really saying that though? To me, it just seems like he's saying he hopes to one day make a film that he'll turn into a really awesome home release.

He says they are planning an awesome edition for later next year.

I guess I'm holding off til Refn's Blu Ray edition comes out.

Nope, need it now (or whenever the first one comes out). And then again when the re-release comes. And then again if he decides to get his George Lucas on.

Btw, how badass is the Logan's Run remake going to be?

YES! I'm wondering if everyone that was shitting on it before did a 180 after seeing Drive? I can't even imagine Refn taking on a sci-fi film, going to be so awesome.

Saw this yesterday night and I LOOOOVED IT. It's weird, can't help but think of the movie since I seen it. Got to see it once more before it's out of theaters.

Random, but I included a song from this album on a mixtape I made for a girl since I know she loved the movie. The soundtrack is incredible!

damn, now im torn about buying the first release. thank you Refn for letting us know ahead of time...but at the same time, goddamn whoever it was that prevented u from doing it in the first place.

Can't. Wait.

Drive is already the film that I've always wanted to see/make, create the vibe that I've always wanted to feel or just live, oh and threw in music that often fuels my daydreams or musings during all the night cruising that I do. He f*cking put it all in one film.

And now? Now he's gonna do that same thing with my favorite genre of film, literature, video games, etc.?!

I'm hoping for the feel of this clip (mainly the short Mars megacity bridge clip), writ large - http://youtu.be/lN_ndsluzlY

-----

Anyone know if this is playing anywhere near Chicago anymore? I've been checking Google Movies and Fandango for a few days now and nothing new is showing up. I wanted to take a girl to see it but schedules didn't match until the day after what may have been the last showing of the film in this area.
