I most the only person who thinks this film is grossly overrated. After all the hype, after I caught it; I walked out thinking it was a fucking snow job. really didn't see what was sooo amazing about it.

No, I was terribly underwhelmed too. Characters seemed very poorly conceived. I literally didn't give a shit about what happened to anybody. Movie seemed to be too smugly self-pleasuring about its camera work and era/genre references to tell a compelling story.

Whenever people use terms like smug or self-pleasuring in regards to a film I immediately discredit their opinions.

I forgot how much I like Carrey Mulligan until I saw this movie.

If Tiny Furniture can gross under $400k, be only moderately liked, and get a packed criterion release a year and a half later, I'm pretty sure Drive can get a second release.

You're also all talking as if people holding out for a better release will just NEVER buy the movie. I don't have money right now and it doesn't look appealing. Sue me.

That's not how studios work though. They aren't going to look at Drive's BD sales or lack thereof and say "oh, most people must be waiting for the uber release so we'd better get on that!". They are going to look at them and say "this barely sold any copies, so let's can those plans for a second release".

Sure, Criterion could try to get the rights. But there is no reason Sony would give this a double dip.

On the flipside, it seems odd that Universal would bother with their own barebones release of Brazil, given that the Criterion extras are a massive part of the appeal of what's already a very niche film, and I doubt they're in any rush to kill their licensing deal with them for what I imagine are slow sales on that title, to put it mildly.

You are correct in that Sony really has no incentive to bother with it themselves.

I don't think Sony will give it a second chance either, and I very much doubt that was what Refn was expecting.

And there aren't many people saying they'll wait for a second version. Hell, I doubt most consumers know a second is coming. The first edition is going to sell as well as it's going to sell.

I watched this after Solo and his sidekicks, that guy Daniel Palimsest basically spunked with excitement over this film.

It's pretty much the worst film I. Have.Seen. In the last year. The 'hero' is obviously meant to be a reflection on brain dead morons, but what REALLY GOT MY FUCKING GOAT was the anaemic lack of a decenct prolonged car chase scene. Wtf. Oh, and the soundtrack, Miama Vice. It did it better.

Yo, that's me! Can someone summarise what's the ellusive second edition is about? Also we actually got decent cover art for the film.

LOL. Right.
Oh and the opening car 'chase' scene was fantastic. You sound like the soccer mom who sued the producers because she thought it was going to be like 'Fast Five'. Fail.

But it wasn't a chase. Your simile needs work, it has the fundaments of a decent one, but I feel you posted in a fit of pique. Chill dude.

The Fast 5 from the off was all about cars and hunky guys. The trailer for Drive, hugely inferred that there would be INTENSE car chases. It seriously failed to deliver.

If your only concern with Drive is "me want more fast car", that's your fault.
I remember not thinking the trailer was misleading when everyone else did, and I just rewatched it to confirm. Trailer makes it look like it has some car chases (which it does) and also spends a ton of time on Driver and his neighbors, indicating that his relationship with all of them and with Bernie is going to be a huge portion of the film.

I still feel strongly that Driver as a symbol of the conflicting elements of modern male sexuality works fantastically well, but I would need to see the film again to be able to articulate why.

lol wat

You need to revisit my thoughts on the film. There was no spunk. I didn't particularly like the film, let alone love it, let far and away alone jizz over it.

Trailer misleading? The movie wasn't titled "Car Chase." I think people are expecting too much from trailers nowadays. They are simply to give you a glimpse of the movie and pique your interest. In no way can one car chase in a trailer sum up and suggest that the entire movie is about cars doing crazy shit for 90 minutes.

Watch the movie. Re-watch the trailer. Is it really that misleading? Plus this is Gosling and not Paul Walker. Do you really think this was going to be Fast 5?

I don't know. To be honest, I try to avoid watching trailers altogether. l'll only watch them if I'm forced to, like in the theater. Too many trailers today are either misleading or spoiler-heavy, or both. And anyway, it's almost always best to go into a movie blind.

Such is the fate of trying to sell weird little films to big audiences.

"Oh wow, this trailer for Pan's Labyrinth makes it look like the next Lord of the Rings!"

I remember browsing the movie section at Best Buy shortly after Pan's Labyrinth was released on DVD and there was a piece of paper taped to the shelf under it warning people it was in Spanish with only English subtitles and they would not being giving any more refunds because of it.

I thought it was pretty funny.

That's as bad as people demanding refunds after realizing The Artist is a silent film. Fucking close-minded people.

best intro to a movie i've seen in a long time. top notch. i liked the tension of the pawn store scene and the resulting aftermath of the 2nd car and the hotel. but as a whole i just didnt care about the characters. i didnt care what was going on. the story was just...dumb? i was disappointed by the end.

Trailers are not made by the people who filmed the movie. They are people who think it is their job to "save the movie" and make trailers to get people in the seats, regardless of how accurate the trailer is in relation to what is actually in the movie.

Seven, for instance, had advertisers saying that it had Brad Pitt from Legends of the Fall and Morgan Freeman of Driving Mrs. Daisy fame. Imagine the poor people who first saw Seven thinking it would be anything like those two movies.

I loved this movie. Was definitely surprised and the sound track was fuck awesome. I found myself giggling a little during the long stretches of silence because it was surprising to me and also conveyed everything they wanted to say without words. Was great. Am i the only one that thought of GTA Vice city when watching/listening to this. I have no clue why, but it came to my mind instantly.

Oh and the brutality came out of nowhere.. did not expect that one bit lol

It's not the film's fault when the distributor sells it as a completely different thing. You should simply have read up on it.

Might sound stupid but at the end of the day why should the trailer matter?
I mean it shouldn't detract from the film as at the end of the day its a good film or its not based on the FILM not the trailer.

i shall own it on Bluray, god it was SO awesome, it's so rare nowadays that a movie genuinenely blows my mind, especially after that trailer which was completely misleading as to what the movie actually was.

i LOVED it, but haters gonna hate ;)

i'm so buying the blu-ray. heck, i still listen to the soundtrack every now and then. i've realized i don't really care about extras. knowing everything about how a certain scene was filmed lessens the impact of the actual scene for me.

I'll be buying that one, and then picking up a Blu-ray with a pink case (there are apparently a couple w/ hot pink) and swapping in one of the inevitable custom covers that'll pop up after it drops.

It will be delicious.

*I don't want to see "Valentine's Day," but it appears to be the only easily obtainable one with a hot pink case.
